Moog Model 15 Modular Synthesizer App Now Available as a VST

via Moog Music

"Introduced in 2016 as the first Moog modular synthesizer and synthesis educational tool created for iOS, the Moog Model 15 App continues to evolve.

The new VST wrapper plugin, available as a free download, allows users to integrate Model 15 and all of its features into DAWs like Ableton for expanded sound design potential and new opportunities for creative expression.

With this download and the macOS Big Sur compatibility update we released earlier this year, the Model 15 App can now be used as a standalone application, as an Audio Unit v3 and v2 plugin, as a VST3 plugin, or as an effect in your existing audio chain."

Peter Zinovieff Electronic Calendar

video by Mark Jenkins published Dec 9, 2019 - Electronic Calendar available through this post.

You can find a history of posts mentioning Peter Zinovieff here.

via The Guardian

"Peter Zinovieff, a hugely influential figure in British music whose early synthesisers helped to change the sound of pop, has died aged 88. He had suffered a fall at home earlier this month.

With its marketing slogan 'think of a sound – now make it', his company Electronic Music Studios (EMS) was one of the first to bring synthesisers out of studios and to the public. With products such as the portable VCS3 and Synthi A, EMS customers – including David Bowie, Kraftwerk, the Who, Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd – were often taught to use the instruments by Zinovieff.

In 1967 he collaborated with Paul McCartney on Carnival of Light, a performance of a 14-minute avant garde composition created between Beatles sessions for Penny Lane that has never been released.

He was also a respected composer of his own work, including early experiments with AI composition and sampling – he claimed to have invented the latter technique." You can read the full post here.

via Wikipedia:

"Peter Zinovieff (26 January 1933 – 23 June 2021) was a British engineer and composer, whose EMS company made the VCS3 synthesizer in the late 1960s. The synthesizer was used by many early progressive rock bands such as Pink Floyd[3] and White Noise, and Krautrock groups[4] as well as more pop-oriented artists, including Todd Rundgren and David Bowie. In later life he worked primarily as a composer of electronic music.

Zinovieff was born on 26 January 1933;[5] his parents, Leo Zinovieff and Sofka, née Princess Sophia Dolgorouky, were both Russian aristocrats, who met in London after their families had emigrated to escape the Russian Revolution and soon divorced.[6] During World War II he and his brother Ian lived with their grandparents in Guildford and then with their father in Sussex. He attended Guildford Royal Grammar School, Gordonstoun School and Oxford University, where he earned a doctorate in geology.[7][8]

Zinovieff's work followed research at Bell Labs by Max Mathews and Jean-Claude Risset, and an MIT thesis (1963) by David Alan Luce.[9] In 1966–67, Zinovieff, Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson ran Unit Delta Plus, an organisation to create and promote electronic music. It was based in the studio Zinovieff had built, in a shed at his house in Putney. (The house is near the Thames, and the studio was later partially destroyed by a flood).[10][11] EMS grew out of MUSYS, which was a performance controller operating as an analogue-digital hybrid.[12] It was a synthesiser system which Zinovieff developed with the help of David Cockerell and Peter Grogono, and used two DEC PDP-8 minicomputers and a piano keyboard.[13] Unit Delta Plus ran a concert of electronic music at the Watermill Theatre in 1966, with a light show. In early 1967 they performed in concerts at The Roundhouse, at which the Carnival of Light was also played; they split up later in 1967.[11] Paul McCartney had visited the studio, but Zinovieff had little interest in popular music.[14]

In 1968, part of the studio was recreated at Connaught Hall, for a performance of pieces by Justin Connolly and David Lumsdaine.[15] At the IFIP congress that year, the composition ZASP by Zinovieff with Alan Sutcliffe took second prize in a contest, behind a piece by Iannis Xenakis.[16]

In 1969, Zinovieff sought financing through an ad in The Times but received only one response, £50 on the mistaken premise it was the price of a synthesiser. Instead he formed EMS with Cockerell and Tristram Cary.[17] At the end of the 1960s, EMS Ltd. was one of four companies offering commercial synthesizers, the others being ARP, Buchla, and Moog.[18] In the 1970s Zinovieff became interested in the video synthesizer developed by Robert Monkhouse, and EMS produced it as the Spectron.[19]

Jon Lord of Deep Purple described Zinovieff as "a mad professor type": "I was ushered into his workshop and he was in there talking to a computer, trying to get it to answer back".[20] Trevor Pinch and Frank Trocco, in their history of the synthesizer revolution, see him rather as aristocratically averse to "trade".[21]

Zinovieff wrote the libretto for Harrison Birtwistle's opera The Mask of Orpheus,[22] and also the words for Nenia: The Death of Orpheus (1970).[23] The section Tristan's Folly in Tristan (1975) by Hans Werner Henze included a tape by Zinovieff."

Peter Zinovieff: A Tribute by CatSynth TV

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We look back at the life and work of Peter Zinovieff, who passed away last week at the age of 88. His work at Electronic Music Studios (EMS) was a major influence on musicians of the 1970s and beyond. At EMS, he co-created the well-known and coveted VCS3 and Synthi series. But he was also a composer in his own right, working on pioneering electronic music in the 1960s and returning to active composition in the 2010s with several collaborations with artists in other media and exploring massive sound spatialization.

Additional background music provided via the Arturia Synthi V as a tribute."

Liquid Light Show Song/JAM by michael nervous

video by michael nervOus

"Ambient song using pipe organ, modular moog, Juno & jp8000 as well as an electribe wave on ipad.

Visuals and song title come from an old practice of using paints and oils on an overhead projector. I do have video of my bandmate and I doing this recently but I wanted to have a digital in sync version for this track.

Fugue Machine is controlling the synths but setup with each playhead going to a different synth.
The 1st playhead of the first instance of two fugue machines controls sunrizer (forward playhead, divided by 8) with the preset: AI- Chime Era, gain down a bit and release up a bit.
The 2nd playhead controls korg electribe wave (reverse playhead, divided by 4 and octave lower) preset 12 sin width add decay and release times.
The 3rd playhead controls Talunolx synth (forward then reverse, diveded by 16 and -1 pitch) preset FN-Analog Lead- FN.
The 4th playhead controls Moog Model 15 (reverse then forward, divided by 8 and 1 octave higher) preset fx birds
The second instance of fugue machine is a duplicate copy of the first instance with some notes removed but the other setting are the same as the 1st fugue machine.
All 4 playheads control icathedral organ preset mixtur Brilliance

Sunrizer gets cloud reverb set to the max
Electribe Wave gets mixbox Chorus pad preset (some altering)
Talunolx & Model 15 get mixbox Boards of Italy preset (some alteriing)
Icatherdral get mixbox Piano Friendly Widener

Phosphenes (DiN65) by Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds

https://dinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/phosphenes-din65

"The names of Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds should be familiar to aficionados of the DiN label with various solo & collaborative albums under their belts. “Phosphenes” see these two well respected musicians team up for their third collaborative release on DiN.

Following on from Morphogenic (DiN41, 2012) & Dystopia (DiN56, 2018) this new album builds on their previous work creating an imaginary Synthwave soundtrack. Bakis Sirros the mastermind behind Parallel Worlds provides the skittering rhythmic backdrop to the tracks over which he and Bessell overlay ominous bass lines, twisting melodies and creative sound design that recall a shadow of 1980s John Carpenter film scores. Bessell also adds his unique guitar style that he so effectively uses in his other well known side project with the synth quartet Node. Both musicians make extensive use of modular synth systems but in very different ways that perfectly blend together in these eight atmospheric tracks.

The duo of Bessell and Sirros really do have a unique sound that is unlike anything else released in the world of electronic music and “Phosphenes” presents another chance to enter their darkly twisted sonic world.

releases January 15, 2021

All tracks composed, arranged and produced by Bakis Sirros & Dave Bessell between November 2019 & July 2020.

Moog Model 15 Legacy Modular System (USA/2015) SN 17

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Only 150 were hand-made by Moog (North Carolina/USA) in 2015. This one is serial number 17; obviously one of the first shipped to the UK (dual-voltage 120/220V, so no convertors required). One owner from new, apart from Klassic Keys GB. Rig comes with everything shown in photos, including special output cable. Original owner's manual (which is very informative ) & some patch charts + many patch leads + Swan flight-rack, even the original box! Note certificate of authentication...

If you are reading this, you will probably know exactly what this modular system is capable of. Basically, it is a portable version of the monster Moog system 900, which was extensively employed to produce "Switched on Bach" circa 1968. ANY sound/tone can be created....from scratch....and there is NO better tonality in the whole universe than a Moog system.......There are ten or so different modules (eg 995, 923 etc) all grouped in one "frame"; by plugging and connecting with the patch leads, the sounds are created, stemming from twin oscillators (921B), controlled by the master oscillator (921A), and so on.....

Introduction (by Bob Moog):-" ...is a pro modular system, made with the same high quality, precisely-engineered components as the largest Moog studio synths. Its compactness and convenience make it ideal for live performance on location, yet it is expandable into a studio system of any size. It combines functional simplicity and logical layout with the versatility necessary for producing a full range of sounds & effects."

Musically, you will need a keyboard. Option (1) use a Moog model 951/952...it simply plugs into the rear of the unit, no grief....(2) use software + any contemporary CV/MIDI mini-synth/mother keyboard (there are many available).....(3) use an external sequencer (only), if you are into the massive "techno-house-music-modular-synthesis" stuff......
Condition:- virtually "as new". No more, no less.
