Vermona Drm1MkIII With Novation Launchpad Pro Mk3

Published on Jun 1, 2020 Sound Provider

"I share this video because I was looking for a Hardware and Dawless sequencer with a good workflow for my lovely Vermona Drm1 MkIII Drum Machine since long time and I m pretty happy with the Novation Launchpad Pro Mk3 sequencer, so I wanted to show you my pratice .

Warning,The sound is pretty raw because the analog DrumMachine is in solo here but it's a good opportunity to make a demo of the Vermona too :) .

For info the Drum is already half mixed here (lot of SSL Eq and compressor) and the main effect on the Drum 1/2, Multi and HiHat 2 of the Vermona is my Roland Space echo tape delay.

Still interested to test other sequencer for the Vermona, so feel free to tell me what is your favorite

Buchla Cosmic Drone - Session 17 - Modular Drone Music Performance & Exploring Iannis Xenakis

Published on May 9, 2020 The Galaxy Electric

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure: https://thegalaxyelectric.lpages.co/5...

Relax and tune into our live weekly improvised Drone Sessions. This seventeenth session involves a drone featuring two independent Buchla style complex and modulation oscillators starting in tune a couple octaves apart. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control, beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as mindfulness sounds as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. Drones are also great for a Sci-fi film soundtrack. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction. The fact that we are manipulating these oscillators live and in collaboration helps the drone meander ever so smoothly in an evolving fashion as we are always reacting to one another's subtle movements. These movements are improvised so there is an unrehearsed and reactive ebb and flow to the tones generated. Engage in the practice deep listening with us.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel and a cosmic vocal drone setup using two Boss RE-20 Roland Space Echo pedals.

More obscure Japanese gear.

"All Hail the Eye tone

"See your pitch!"

Manufactured by Fuji Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., the Eye tone is an aide to vocal training - plug in a microphone to get visual feedback via it's 2 lamp system. One shows you are within range, the other lights up when you are 'spot on'.

This function, however, lends itself well to monitoring drones. Here, I use it to track pitch coming from a variable speed tape player as I attempt to glide between tones and 'enhance my multi-tasking abilities' beyond their infancy.

Sounds:
O2 Minipops
Hougaku Conductor with step sequencer
2 cassette tape players modified for variable speed:
- one playing a drone, the other birdsong
Suiko ST20 - Shakuhachi/Koto/Pipe Organ 'synth'

Effects:
Aria spring reverb on O2 Minipops
Lots of Korg SDD-3300 on the cassette players
The Hougaku Conductor runs through a Roland VX-66 Echo Mixer and the Suiko ST20 through an ELK EM-13 Analog Echo, before the main mixer"

Moog 16 Channel Vocoder Processing Videos

Published on Apr 2, 2020 Moog Music Inc

PLAYLIST:

1. Moog 16 Channel Vocoder | Counting Sample Processing
In this composition, the Moog 16 Channel Vocoder’s program input is being driven by a microphone, while the Moog IIIp modular synthesizer acts as the carrier signal. A Eurorack modular system provides melodic sequencing for the IIIp, as well as modulation sources for some of the vocoder’s synthesizer inputs while in external patch mode. Two Moog DFAMs handle rhythmic accompaniment to round out the arrangement.
2. Moog 16 Channel Vocoder | IIIp and Vocal Processing
3. Moog 16 Channel Vocoder | MPC Breakbeat Processing
In this example, an Akai MPC1000 sends a breakbeat sample to the Moog 16 Channel Vocoder’s program input. A Moog Matriarch serves as the carrier input. The Matriarch is operating in four voice mode, and the keyboard is used to provide the chordal sequence used to transform the breakbeat.
4. Moog 16 Channel Vocoder | 808 Processing
In this composition, rather than the typical microphone, the Moog 16 Channel Vocoder’s program input is being driven by a Roland TR-808 drum machine. A Eurorack modular system provides the chordal content for the vocoder’s carrier input, as well as all the drums and percussion. The external patch functionality on the vocoder is being used to create two distinct timbres, while the rear Patch Select input jack receives gate signals from a Eurorack sequencer to toggle back and forth between the two timbres. The vocoder’s output is being processed by a Roland RE-150 Space Echo and OTO BAM for a bit of warm tape delay and reverb. Finally, a Moog Mother-32 provides a rich ostinato bassline to tie everything together.

This improv's theme was done in honor of Podular Modcast's patch challenge : Air Chrysalis

For those not familiar, this is a podcast dedicated to covering the global modular synthesizer scene. It is hosted by Tim Held.

Every week he encourages the guests to create a patch inspired by an adjective and noun of his choosing. They get a few minutes and then they have to perform their patch on the spot.

In his episode 88 on Monday January 13, 2020 he turned it around on his audience and gave his listeners the words Air Chrysalis. We took the challenge and went live on Facebook and Instagram and started the patch from scratch.

Thank you Tim for creating such a fun way to challenge our patching skills.

This is the second installment of a series of improvised modular synth performance mixed with pop elements - female vocals and mellotron.
These elements combined with a tempo synchronized looping technique provide a rich sonic landscape of cosmic texture inspired by the early electronic and tape music innovators. This music is especially inspired by Space Age era electronic music or cosmic tape music. The effects are spring reverb, delay and the occasional reversing and pitch shifting of the recorded phrase. Our goal is to combine analog and digital technology to recreate this early electronic music tonal variety in an improvised setting.

Enter Exit - TR-808, Oberheim OB-8, Juno 60, Microwave Rev A, TTSH sequenced by a Cirklon

Published on Nov 17, 2019 instantknut

"It's quite a while since my last video so I wanted to make an awesome return with ninjas, mannequins, trampolines and Lamborghinis. That did not work out.

And because I didn't work out either, wearing the tracksuit was not an option.
Instead you can see me noodling with some nice vintage synths. A triumph against perfection and crippling procrastination!

Synthesizers in this track: Oberheim OB-8, Roland Juno 60, Yamaha DX7, Waldorf Microwave, a Two Thousand Six Hundred. All sequenced by a Sequentix Cirklon. Drums from the Roland TR 808 and the tape delay is a Roland Space Echo RE-101.

Super happy to test the fantastic El Capistan dTape Echo by Strymon. El Capstan is a tape echo with a lot of functions/possibilities. It has a superb spring reverb and could easily do some sort of RE-201 works but with a better overall quality. It's tested on my lovely SE-02 by Studio Electronics and Roland and then it's tested on Arturia's rumbute Impact snares.

Syncing 2 vintage Roland drummachines, CR-78 and CR-8000

Published on May 29, 2019 obscure wave music

"Syncing 2 vintage Roland drum machines.

Here's a little demo -really nothing fancy - featuring the Roland CR-8000 and the CR-78 synced together and plugged into, but not recorded on, a vintage Tascam 244. The echo is the now-almost-vintage Boss RE-20.
Both these drummachines are long-time favorites of mine, along with the TR-606.

The point here is this: though both drum machines respond to Roland sync, the CR-8000 uses 24 ppqn and the CR-78 uses 12 ppqn. Wich means that if you just plug sync out from the CR-8000 into the CR-78, the latter one will play at double the tempo, which can be intresting, but most of the time is not.

So, I worked around that problem by using a Doepfer MSY-1 to sync the CR-78 from a midi clock coming from a DSI mono evolver keyboard ( which plays the “ drony “ sequence in the background from it's internal sequencer ). The MSY-1, although a relatively old device, can be set to different clock divisions from an incoming midi clock. Using the same midi clock source, the CR-8000 is synced by the sync24 converter inside the Novation Drumstation ( both the MSY-1 and the Drumstation are out of view ).

Using this principle, I'll try to make another demo with an 808 and 606 added to the setup.

Recorded straight from the 244's line out into a Roland R-05. I chose not to record on the 244, because it is still in the process of being refurbished and the tape mechanism is not up to the job yet.

By the way: my 244 misses the button cap of the cassette eject switch. Would anyone know where I can find a replacement ? All the transport caps/buttons on the 244 are one “ pad of caps/buttons “, and the one for eject here has broken of and vanished... Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks for watching !"

Strymon Volante Magnetic Drum & Tape Delay Pedal

Published on Feb 13, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"Strymon's Volante emulates the sounds of three different types of magnetic delay effects. The dirtiest delay setting is a drum emulation like the Binson Echorec, then there is a tape delay that has the sounds of units like the Roland Space Echo RE-201, and the cleanest is a studio setting which emulates the types of delays made with reel to reel studio tape decks.

There are four tape heads which can each have their volume, panning and feedback adjusted independently. The spacing of the heads can also be adjusted and is continuously variable through four settings. Delay times can be dialed in from 100ms to 4 seconds.

To add warble and grit to your delays you can saturate the record head and tape or drum, or adjust how much the machine and tape or drum are worn out.

The sound source for this video is the Behringer Deepmind 6 with all of its internal effects turned off, so the only effects you are hearing are the Volante.

Call 877 909 0303 to order a Volante, or see it on our website here: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/strymo...

Deepmind 6 available here: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/behrin..."
