Time and Space by Jay Wires

You can find the release on various platforms on Distrokid here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/jaywires/time-and-space

"‘Time And Space’ is the second single from Jay Wires.

‘Time And Space’ follows the debut Jay Wires single, ‘Candle In The Night’, and continues a story that began there. Filled with frank honesty, longing and unrequited caring, ‘Time And Space’ was written after an argument between Jay Wires and his ex-girlfriend. “We approached arguments differently,” he reflects. “My solution to arguments was always to talk things out as soon as possible in order to move past them, whereas hers was needing to be alone, taking time and space before coming back.” The song was written during one of those periods of post-argument separation.

In spite of its lyrical themes, ‘Time And Space’ highlights Jay Wires’ knack for creating towering, ascendant intricately-detailed electronic pop tracks, full of personal emotion and reference points. “The argument happened in December 2019,” remembers Jay Wires. “That month, we saw a live jazz band perform songs from the ‘Charlie Brown Christmas Special’ soundtrack in a hotel lounge in Williamsburg. For the instrumental break, I created the sound of brushed cymbals to capture the atmosphere of that performance.” ‘Time And Space’ concludes with a powerful, stirring, uplifting synth-orchestral segment, offering a fragile sense of optimism that this was just a temporary parting, not something more permanent.

‘Time And Space’ is the second song to be taken from the debut Jay Wires EP, ‘Kaboom!’.

Donny Benét - Le Piano (Official Music Video)

video upload by Donny Benét

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

Roland TR-808 intro, followed by an ARP 2600. I'm guessing the 2600 is layered over a Yamaha CP70 mentioned below for the piano sounds? The 2600 does appear to come in for the synth solo at 3:04. The bass almost sounds synthetic. Soviet Space Child mentioned it sounds an awful lot like a MiniMoog. Whatever it is, it's fun stuff.

"It gives me great pleasure to present the first single Le Piano from my upcoming EP also titled Le Piano, coming out April 1 on Dot Dash records
After a crazy period of touring, being stuck at home for the past 2 years allowed life to slow down and gift me an extended period in my home studio.
After writing and releasing Mr Experience at the beginning of the coronavirus, I’d turned back to listening to a lot of instrumental music - Sakamoto, Hiroshi Yoshimura, Goblin, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Yanni…to name a few.
I indulged myself and bought a vintage Yamaha CP70 electric grand piano, as well as finally setting up my studio to record live drums - something that’s been on my mind for quite some time. It seemed too soon to be writing a new album straight after Mr Experience (an album which I can’t wait to perform for you in 2022) so I spent most of the time in my little room experimenting, skilling up, and enjoying the musical process once again without the pressures of deadlines and touring.
This EP is a small taste of my world from this crazy moment in time - I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Tiptop Audio Buchla 200t Sound Demo

video upload by Station 252

"Buchla and Tiptop Audio 200t series workout.

Exploring Dual Oscillator Model 258t and Quad Function Generator Model 281t sound capabilities while recording my new EP. I was curious how the sound and response of those two modules will fit into my music and at the same time going into territories I wouldn't normally go to out of curiosity.

I've used a bunch of additional modules as my patches grew to hear how 200t modules fit with other eurorack modules and to keep everything in context, those where:

A Message To Roy Batty ( late night jam session )

video upload by ollilaboratories

"If you like my music you can find it here http://bit.ly/BurgMusic and also please consider supporting me at patreon for as little as 1 USD http://bit.ly/BurgPatreon

##

Happy 2022 everyone!

This song was a late night session recorded a couple months back ( OCT 2021 ) not originally meant for release but after a few listens it has this special feeling that i thought was worth sharing with you all. The recording was all done in one take, more or less adlib on the go with the exception of the KORG monologue sequence which was pre-programmed.

You can also find this track on the cold/err EP https://music.ollilab.com/album/cold-err together with two other songs i recorded in my new studio space during 2021. The EP release version has a message and voices overlaid post production, for those of you with sharp senses :)

This is a very rough take, it has a lot of noises, overdrive and glitches but i decided to keep it as is due to raw natural feeling of the jam. Straight from the heart, unfiltered.

Take care all, hoping that this year will bring loads of great music and great times to everyone out there. Stay safe and keep the music flowing!

Yours truly
-BURG

Gear used:

► KORG Grandstage ( eventide space, 720 looper, catalinbread CSIDMAN, red panda particle )
► KORG monologue ( BOSS DE-200 )
► Moog Subsequent 37 ( Strymon timeline, blue sky )
► Arturia Microfreak ( Zoom ms-70 CDR )
► Zoom H5 2 track recorder"

"EXPERIMENTAL ELECTRONIC MUSIC EXPERIENCE" - PIOTR GARBACZONEK (FULL LIVE PERFORMANCE AT BERKLEE)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thank you all so much for watching my performance!
Date: December 14th, 2021
Location: B54 at Berklee College Of Music, EPD Labs
(Electronic Production and Design)

This show was my showcase as part of my EP-491's final project for my major. Aside from finishing a 5-track EP in a semester, I also was preparing this set for a very long time along with all the music. I decided to pull in a few songs from my previous EP: Experimental EP, Vol. 01, to spice up the performance a bit. The songs included were: Conformity, as the first song after the modular-only section; Time, which was the song at the end of the set with the QR code to my social media links. Everything else was songs from the past 4 months.

All the visuals were edited beat by beat, a song by song in Adobe Premiere Pro, and then rendered and then put into an Ableton Session to be played in a specific earlier-defined order.

I divided the show into 2 sections: Ambient Experimental, and Glitch Experimental.

The first part included rhythm-free elements only and primarily played on various modular synths, up until the 13th minute, where modular synths were supporting all the songs played in order.

The second part included various drum elements, as well as glitch music and frequency spectrum bending polyrhythms.

In terms of gear used, I used my Zoom L-12 Multitrack Mixer, to record all of the individual inputs directly into Ableton. Ableton had different effects in the effects chain of each track depending on what was necessary for each one.

For all the weird clock-driven, laser-sounding fast atonal sounds, I used the CMS MR-15 Modular System based off of the ARP 2500. For some chords and mild sawtooth progressions, I used the Blue Marvin 2600, which is based on the ARP 2600 with built-in Spring Reverb. The Blue Marvin was sequenced by one of my Qu-Bit Bloom Sequencers running in the minor key.
The master clock for everything was the ALM Pamela's New Workout, and it was clocking the CMS, Blue Marvin, 2x Qu-Bit Bloom, Qu-Bit Chance, Moog Subharmonicon (which was doing all the background pads), and Mutable Instruments Rings.
There were various other sequenced sounds, including Mutable Instruments Plaits as a 32-step arpeggio in minor, as well as Mutable Instruments Rings, going through Clouds as a textured effect.
Cwejman VCO-2RM was running through Qu-Bit Tone's LPF, and directly out as a very low analog sub.
The E340 Cloud Generator was my analog Wavetable synth, which I played directly on the Arturia Keystep MIDI-Controller, by sending it pitch information only, and running it through MI Ripples, and out.
The Instruo Arbhar was running in stereo mode, and that one was doing all of the tapping and scratching noises in left and right channels. It has a built-in condenser mic, so I was tapping it on the spot to fill up some space in transitions for some ASMR effects haha.
That's pretty much it in terms of gear used.
If you have any questions about anything, please don't hesitate to ask in the comments. I will happily answer.

Again a huge thank you to Wiggz for doing some cool action shots while I was playing.
This is his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCItL...

And thank you to Dr.B for being an amazing professor, and leading me through the last stretch of my EPD Journey, as well as opening new doors for me for the future.

Patch Notes: Qasim Naqvi

video upload by FACTmagazine

"Pakistani-American musician Qasim Naqvi is perhaps best known as a founder member of acoustic trio Dawn of Midi, in which he has played drums since 2007. Outside of his work in Dawn of Midi, Naqvi is an accomplished solo artist whose compositions have been performed by ensembles including the London Contemporary Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and soundtracked many films and documentaries.

Naqvi’s recent solo releases, such as 2019’s Teenages and 2020’s Beta, have made extensive use of synthesizers and modular systems. In this episode of Patch Notes, we invited Naqvi to perform at Pioneer Works, a non-profit cultural center in Redhook, Brooklyn.

'The building dates back to 1866 and was originally a railroad track factory,' Naqvi says. 'Now it’s a massive performing arts space. With my equipment, I was merging two systems that I’ve been configuring for a couple of years, a Verbos System and a Serge System. I also used a few random modules to connect everything: a Quad VCA from Intellijel and an X-Pan stereo module from Make Noise as the final output.'

'The acoustics are massive at Pioneer Works and we set everything up where the audience usually stands, so I was facing the house system,” he explains. “It was quite powerful to feel the music coming directly at me from this monstrous system. It definitely affected my choices. I wanted to embrace the full dynamic feel of the space, by exploring a range of highly dense sounds to rhythmic ideas, to more sparse and quiet moments. It was also a hellishly hot day and there was no AC in the building. At a certain point it felt like a clay oven.'

The piece Naqvi performs is called ‘Yes Mammal’, and was originally titled ‘Music for Modular Synthesizer, Dim Lamp and One Developing Melody.’ 'I wrote it in June for my first show in New York after a year and a half of not performing,' he explains. 'It’s evolved since then and I wanted to share it with Fact.'

'My background for a long time has been in acoustic music, where I write pieces and then share them with a group or individual to interpret. And from there they’ve made it into something larger. With the modular, I’ve been translating that way of thinking. Lately, I write a piece or a sketch and give it to an entity, in this case the synthesizer, and let it expand the music to more than just notes on the page. This piece is loosely written and I improvise with the material using the infinite possibilities of the modular synthesizer to give it shape in the moment. I like to think of it as live orchestration but with voltage.'

Naqvi has typically used this large-scale modular setup in the past to perform, but more recently he’s been experimenting with slimmed down systems to use in live performance settings. 'I’m making different and smaller hybrid configurations that are more tailor-made to the pieces I’m writing,” he says. “I still use this whole system when needed but it’s been an interesting exercise to slim down from time to time and make more with less.'

Naqvi’s most recent release is an EP titled Chronology, which was released on on Erased Tapes. 'It was made entirely on a very old and broken Minimoog synthesizer. It’s a special album that I made with a great relic.'

Synth Stuff Ep. 69 - Moog Little Phatty

tritonrecordings

"Episode 69...nice. Think back to the mid-2000s, a world dominated by Motif/ Triton/ Fantom/ workstations and virtual instruments. Moog arose from the ashes with the Voyager, but then came the Little Phatty as an affordable (comparatively speaking) analog synthesizer. It was also the final synth to have Bob Moog's hand in development before his passing. In time came the Microbrutes and Minilogues and etc. that we have now, but the Little Phatty was a hugely important milestone in the road that has led us to the abundance of analog synthesizers available today. I believe this white model is a 'Stage II' model. I recently got an Eventide Space pedal (highly recommended) and used it here for some liveliness."

The Noiseblast Hour, Episode 4: BLAKMOTH

Noise Engineering

BLAKMOTH tip jar: https://paypal.me/blakmothmgmt

Host Shawn Jimmerson's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pyraphonic

"It's the Noiseblast Hour, brought to you by Noise Engineering, hosted by Pyraphonic (aka Shawn Jimmerson)! This is the fourth installment in a series of indeterminate length and sporadic release (h/t Roman Mars). Watch here for future episodes!

For this fourth episode of The Noiseblast Hour, we welcome Blakmoth to the stage. BLAKMOTH is a a Maryland based electronic musician specializing in a lofi, dark, and brooding ambient aesthetic he calls “Doombient.” Influenced by doom/death metal, techno and cinematic soundtracks. With an artist's palette of modular synths, field recordings, and tape loops, Blakmoth paints emotive soundscapes with aspirations of film scoring.

Debuting in 2017 BLAKMOTH has released a prolific catalog of 23 albums, including a new EP “Deluge“ released in June of 2020, with another solo release coming this year alongside a collaborative release with Andy Black.

Blakmoth is an advocate for mental health, having struggled with anxiety and depression from an early age. 'Listening or creating music was always a great coping tool and escape from the noise of anxiety. I create music today hoping that it helps provide that same safe space destination for someone else, or inspires them to pick up music therapy.'"

AtomoSynth - Supervoid EP [Full Album]

"Hello World! I am happy to present you with my new EP called "Supervoid" the concept is the minimalism and was inspired by the idea of the vacuum of space, that's why it's name "Supervoid". Voids are vast spaces of nothingness between chains of galaxies and some of the largest cosmic voids are called Supervoids which are estimated to be about 326000000 light years in diameter. In this great nothingness, however, exists something: Time, particles, physics laws, radiation and space.

Each track has been recorded live in one take. using the AtomoSynth Perceptron semi-modular synthesizer (bass, leads), an ipad (drums, leads, effects) and midi controllers.

released June 30, 2020
Composed, produced and performed by Alfredo Aliaga in Lima Peru AtomoRec studios 2020.

Tracks:
1. Time 00:00
2. Particles 07:35
3. Physics laws 14:52
4. Radiation 22:22
