New DIY Moog Synth Coming to Moogfest will be the Sub-Harmonicon

Details on this years' Moogfest synth in via Moog Music:

"Build the Sub-Harmonicon at Moogfest 2018

WANT TO BUILD AN UNRELEASED SYNTHESIZER WITH MOOG ENGINEERS?

Get the most out of Moogfest with the Engineer Pass, a special ticket that provides VIP access to the festival and the unique opportunity to work alongside Moog Music Engineers during a two-day synth-building workshop. This behind-the-scenes experience gives you the opportunity to engage Moog engineers while gaining insight into the art of electronic design.

This year’s workshop will build the Sub-Harmonicon, a brand-new electronic instrument inspired by the Trautonium, the Rhythmicon, and the Schillinger System. It is a semi-modular harmonic kaleidoscope that divides into itself until everything that is up becomes down.

With the Engineer VIP Pass, you’re delving into synthesis at the foundational level—and you come away with your own limited-edition, unreleased Moog synthesizer, hand-built by you.

Not only does it grant you exclusive access to a premium workshop, it opens all doors to other Moogfest 2018 activities.

This means:
• VIP Access to all events and exclusive areas.
• Complimentary food and beverage in select areas.
• Prioritized access to workshop registration.
• Access to a dedicated Festival Concierge who organizes your Engineer class schedule and is available for any questions you have may have.
• A custom embroidered patch patch representing the 2018 Engineer Workshop class.

The 2018 Engineer Pass is extremely limited in number and will only be available while supplies last."

You can pick up the 2018 Engineer Pass here.

"Great little analog desktop drone synth controlled by light.

From the official website:

Lumanoise v2 has:

- one square oscillator, one 12bit sawtooth oscillator, and 2 trautonium like sub oscillators.

- inspired by the Oskar Sala Trautonium synth. We use one Trautonium tmaster oscillator under LDR control and 2 sub oscillator, where you can set the division frequency of the tmaster oscillator.

- oscillators pitch is controlled by a photo resistor, each oscillator has a volume pot.

- has a 12 db low pass resonant filter, the filter cut-off can be controlled by the potentiometer or the photoresistor.

Lumanoise works with voltage between 9 and 12 volt

Improvisation for modular mixtur-trautonium.

1. A Demonstration Of Oskar Sala's Mixtur-Trautonium Formant Filters

A demonstration of the mixtur-trautonium's formant filters. The filter was originally designed by Freidrich Trautwein as vacuum tube (or rohrentechnik) technology in 1930, at the very beginnings of subtractive synthesis.( I mistakenly referred to subharmonic synthesis in my closing remarks) The filters here are version of the design from the halbeiter, or semiconductor mixtur trautonium dating from around 1989 and were made by Trautoniks. New Book on Max Brand - MACHINES FOR THE OPERA. THE COMPOSER MAX BRAND

This one in via Brian Kehew:

"There is a new book on Max Brand, German composer who lived in the USA for a while. He used the Trautonium and, later, was an early Moog synthesizer customer...

It is written bilingually, in English and German"

You can find the German page on the book here, Googlish here.

See the Max Brand label for previous posts if you are not familiar with him.

via the Googlish translation:

"A contemporary of Arnold Schoenberg and Kurt Weill Max Brand was a figure between late romanticism, futurism and outbreaks of the electronic age. The cultural breakdown by the Nazis, before which he fled in 1937 from Vienna and ended up in Rio de Janeiro, began a promising career as an opera composer to an end. In 1940 he settled in New York, where he pursued his vision of an electronic music machine for the stage. Many attempts did not lead on, one of which was an optical synthesizer with self-drawn waveforms, finally Moogtonium, a slightly ajar to the Mixturtrautonium Oskar Salas, Robert A. Moog synthesizer built. The development work on the machine dragged on far too long, so that fire could never realize his dream to have an electronic one-man band for the operatic stage. In 1975 he returned to Austria, where he lived in Langenzersdorf and in 1980 died.
