Siel CTS-2000, just a few sounds passing by...

Published on May 26, 2019 [ጠσσǥǥሃ]

"Another rare and atypical machine: the Siel CTS 2000. (Usually called Keytek)
Italian hybrid synth from 1987, using sort of wavetables...
A mix of Ensoniq and PPG Wave, under an Emulator II/DX7 interface!
It sounds really weird, and it's pretty complicated to use :)
Wavetables are generated by 2 really cheap SGS M114A, and the filters are CEM 3389 (Sequential Circuits Prophet VS, Studio 440, Waldorf Microwave 1, Ensoniq Esq-1, SQ80...)
The whole thing runs under a TMS-7002, that is almost enough powerful to make transients (Often goes not smooth and sometimes there are 'Plops' in the sound)"

via this auction

This on was spotted and sent in via swissdoc.

It's essentially a preset version of the Keytek CTS-2000 with limited programmability. If you look at the front panel you will see buttons for Filter Control and Velocity to VCF. It uses CEM3389 signal processor 4 pole Filter, VC resonance, VCA, VC Pan chips also found in the Sequential Circuits Prophet-VS, Studio 440, and Waldorf Microwave 1 according to Wikipedia's page on CEM and SSM chips.

You can find a demo of one in this post, and numerous demos of the CTS-2000 in previous posts here.

Update: looks like the listing was swapped out with a Keytek CTS 2000. I'm not finding a new or separate listing for the Fizmo. Will keep this post up for the images.

"There isn’t another synth out there quite the ensoniq Fizmo trsnswave synth. The way it sounds can only be described as alien x files type stuff and the vocoder is sick. They only made a handful. This one is great with only a small scratch on the corner..."

Moby's Drum Machines For Sale

You can find them on Reverb here.

Don't miss the video here.

Update: some pics and details captured. I made the mistake of trying to capture them all and then realized how many were listed. :) I ended up switching to the more esoteric models. Quite a few have never been featured here on MATRIXSYNTH before. What's a little bit interesting, is only two new labels were needed, one for Domino and one for Side-Kick-Er. All other brands have been featured before. See the labels at the bottom of this post. Side note: Blogger limits the number of characters to 200 for labels, so I wasn't able to capture them all for this post. You can always search for the brand names featured for more. I assume most do this anyway. The labels are more for maintenance and for finding posts that may not feature brand names in descriptions.

RIP Doug Curtis

I just got word (from Joe), that word on the Synth DIY list is that Doug Curtis passed away today from cancer. I just searched the archives and the posts are coming in. Nothing on AH yet. I see it posted on Sequencer.de. I should note that I do not have confirmation that this is true.

If you don't know who Doug Curtis is, he was the man that formed Curtis Electromusic Specialties, makers of the CEM chips. CEM chips were used in a ton of synths including the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, MOOG Memorymoog, Oberheim OB and Matrix range and a ton of other analog synths. For a full list check out this page and this page. The list of manufacturers include Akai, Banana, Cheetah, CMI Fairlight, Crumar, Elka, Ensoniq, Kawai, KeyTek, Korg, Linn, MOOG, Oberheim, PAiA, PPG, Fender/Rhodes (Chroma), Roland, RSF, Sequential Circuits, Siel, Simmons, Solton, Steiner, Synton, Waldorf, Yamaha (CS80), and most recently, Dave Smith Instruments.

Synthmaster

Trip. When I had severe GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome), I used to have these dreams where I'd walk into a pawn shop and see all these bizarre and obscure synths. Sometimes they were rare models of Oberheims and Rolands, etc, but usually they were obscure synths from manufacturers I've never seen before. Right before I was waking from the dream, I'd think if I only grab one I might be able to take it to the other side. : ) If you ever had dreams like this you probably know what I'm talking about.

Well, when I saw the Synthmaster post on sequencer.de, I had that same feeling, like I just walked into a pawn shop of obscure synths in dream land. There are a ton of bizarre and obscure synths I've never seen or heard of before. Looks like he brought them over from the other side. Click here for more.
