Buchla Boys heavy beats live patching at the Sirén Festival: 1

YouTube Uploaded by otoskope on Mar 10, 2012

"Part of the first set of the last concert at the 2012 Sirén Festival. This is a festival arranged by the students at the composition and individual programs at the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Buchla Boys are David Sabel and Niklas Sjösvärd, and they're performing on a 1980's 5-panel Serge and a 18-size Buchla 200e, both belonging to the Lindblad Studios at the Academy. The patching is improvised, and there's a crowd dancing behind them (too dark to film). This is part of a longer set, and there's more photage coming, of higher quality.

This was filmed with a mobile camera."

"DSP effects galore. One oscillator for a sound source from the modular synthesizer. A Double Deka VCO and two CGS01 sub oscillators. The Bank A is driving the sub oscillators with one sub osc channel going into the expression pedal input of an El Capistan delay. The other B bank out of the DDVCO is run through the El Capistan and a Blue Sky reverb then back into the DDVCO Linear frequency input. The sub oscillation and a mix out from the DDVCO is run through some vca which come and go slowly. The mix out from the DDVCO is also separated to route through a pitch shifter on the MX200 delay.'
The pitch data for the DDVCO is two step sequencers by synthesizers.com. The Q960 and Q119 are slowly stepping and mixed together before sending through a Q171 quantizer. The Q119 is set for random and full glide and it's cv is sent through an additional Q105 Slew Limiter. The Q119 is timed from a Yusynth VC Quadrature LFO. Two other Mega Ohm Audio LFO 2's are used for the vca's.
The large reverb effects are Audio Damage's Eos and Valhalla's Shimmer and Room delays along with a Valhalla FreqDelay frequency shifter. Recorded in Cubase6 and Final Cut Pro X."

"For your consideration is this vintage 1981 Linn LM-1 Drum Computer drum machine. This particular example, serial 00029, was amongst the initial batch of 35 to be produced, which were famously completed in Roger Linn's own home! This beyond rare, incredibly desired, and amazingly iconic artifact is equally deserving of a museum display as it is a special section in the finest studio. With approximately only 500 LM-1s produced between 1980 and 1983, they have since become incredibly scarce and especially famous for being the preeminent digital drum machine featured on recordings by; Michael Jackson, Prince, Peter Gabriel, Kraftwerk, Kurtis Blow, Devo, Elton John, Don Henley, and many more. With an original price tag of $4,995.00, and an exclusive client list that reads more like an announcement of nominated Pop, Rock, and R&B artists for the 24th Annual Grammy Awards of February 1982 than a group of guys that want the same drum machine, it has since become near impossible to find one, let alone, buy and own one. Perhaps more relevant and applicable now than ever, this is the drum machine that started it all, and just like all great vintage equipment, it has achieved a permanent place in music history."

"The Jupiter 6, conforming with others in the Jupiter series, is unlike any other synth produced during the same time. Its unique sound is due, in part, to classic Roland analog technology used in its filters, modulation capabilities, and 12 analog oscillators at 2 per voice. Although it seems the JP-6 is just a scaled down version of the Jupiter 8, the Jupiter 6 features some major improvements including better tuning stability and the implementation of MIDI (The second synth to ever offer MIDI, the Prophet 600 being the first by a few weeks).

The Jupiter 6 features 12 analog oscillators (2 per voice), and is bitimbral, allowing its keyboard to be split into two sounds, one with 4 voices, and one with the remaining 2 voices. 'Whole Mode' is also available, dedicating all 6 voices to a single sound across the entire keyboard. Unlike the Juno’s, of which the Jupiter 6 shares some features, the JP-6 is equipped with two excellent, independent ADSR envelopes.

Other performance features that round out the Jupiter is an excellent arpeggiator that is capable of up, down, and up and down patterns selectable by up to a four octave range. Surprisingly enough, the JP-6 is not a complicated synth to own or operate. Everything seems intuitive and purposeful, which is the the hallmark of thoughtful synthesizer design.

The Jupiter 6 has well-rounded, clear, but aggressive sounds. As a lead synth, the JP-6 has an incredible palette that synth players will find easy to play and manipulate the sounds simultaneously in many different ways. This may be the most underrated synth as it can cut through a mix of any instruments with ease. It can also do its share of bizarre, frequency modulated beeping sounds as well.

To reiterate, this synth is in excellent condition and still retains; ALL of the knobs, slider tips, and button caps, and is in perfect working shape."

Low SN Devi Ever Ooh La La: Truly Beautiful Disaster ( ZVEX )

via this auction

"Background: This is a Devi Ever designed, Ooh La La manufactured pedal. See extended info at the bottom of this listing.

Condition: The pedal is in nice cosmetic condition. The paint is matte finished, and painted by Jason Myrold of Zvex.

Function: The pedal functions 100 percent as it should. Everything has been tested and confirmed.

Notes: This is a hand-built pedal. It does exhibit some imperfections. The most noticeable is that the knobs don't rotate completely flush (as you rotate the knob, the knob has a tiny wobble). I inspected the potentiometers, and they are all fine. It was more of an assembly issue on Ooh La La's end -- they used split shaft pots with locking knobs that didn't sit flush. I want to be as transparent as possible. This does not impact the pedal in anyway.

Extended info: Truly Beautiful Disaster - serial number #046
The TBD is an oscillating fuzz and a feed back loop with photo sensitive eye in one pedal. The oscillating fuzz is capable of hundreds of different fuzz tones with it's blend, fuzz, oscillation, and gate controls, while the feed back loop can mutate any of your other effects into a new noise generating machine of doom.

Ooh La La pedals by Effector 13 / Devi Ever: These pedals are overbuilt. No double stick tape, no hot glue or goop and no perf board. These were built from the ground up in Minneapolis-MN-USA and were hand painted by Jason Myrold of Zvex fame. Both pedals uphold RoHS guidelines and use water-soluble paints and lead-free solder when possible."

Behringer FCV-100 CV Pedal with Roland GR-300 and GR-700

YouTube Uploaded by WayneJoness on Mar 10, 2012

"The Behringer FCV-100 is a pedal that can function as a dual, stereo volume pedal, or as a control voltage pedal with a 50K pot. However, the FCV-100 cannot be used directly with the GR-300 or GR-700. Since the FCV-100 has an internal PC board, the easiest way to adapt the pedal for the GR-300 or GR-700 is to modify a TRS tip-ring-sleeve cable."

New Emu Universal Active Filter & Voltage Controlled Multimode Filter

via Tony Wride on Facebook

"The project continues at a pace! Just built up a new Universal active filter and put it in my system. Also worked on an Oberheim SEM style Multimode Filter which I had in the Aviator but is now in an Emu style panel. I'll put the artwork for the new module in a separate post. The Exclusively Analogue website with details about the Pioneer "Tribute" system is now up and running. www.exclusivelyanalogue.com."

Bottom: "Here is the artwork for the new Multimode filter based on the Oberheim SEM 12dB filter which happens to be one of my favourites. It would be a useful addition to anyone with an Emu system that doesn't have a UAF since you have all four modes available as per the UAF (Lowpass, Bandpass, Highpass, and Notch)."

Yamaha E70 In Ivory White

via this auction

"Simply stunning and incredibly rare Yamaha E70 in a high gloss white (original factory finish), in excellent condition and perfect working order, having only had home use from new. Comes complete with it's matching bench and pedalboard, original user manuals and even 2 keys for the fall-board lock! It looks like it recently left the showroom and sounds amazing.

I've no idea how many of these exist but there can't be many, I've certainly never seen another one like it. This is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to own this beautiful instrument.

If you're not familiar with the Yamaha E70 then just do a Google search, there's lots of information and discussion regarding this instrument. The E70 basically uses the same PASS technology and circuitry as the mighty Yamaha CS80 synth from the same era and consequently sounds very similar. The E70 and CS synths evolved from the earlier legendary GX1 Electone Synth. It seems that a few people have now successfully modified their Yamaha E70's by adding an extra control panel, usually in place of the music stand, making it fully programmable and opening up most of the CS80 functionality and sound capabilities." kawai Teisco s100p vintage analog synth

via this auction

"Here are the specs for this synth:

A 37-key, C-C keyboard; they have 32 preset sounds that are selected using switches beneath the keyboard, and a left-hand control panelThe bass sounds possess a solid low end, the shakuhachi is smooth and effective, and the four "synthe" sounds have a pleasing rawness. The limited tweaking afforded by the panel controls includes a clumsy pitch-bend slider, filter "brilliance", and modulation rate, as well as octave up/down, portamento (and glissando) time, tune, volume and three keyboard triggering modes.

Perhaps the most unexpected and interesting aspects of this synth are its built-in reverb and assignable aftertouch. Reverb is of the spring type, with an effect level knob on the panel; aftertouch also has a sensitivity control knob to suit your playing, and can be routed simultaneously to several destinations, including pitch bend up/down, filter, vibrato amount and "growl". The degree of flexibility this adds to the otherwise simple sounds makes this synth much more expressive than many more patchable monos of the time. There is also an "effects" section allowing the switching of porta/glissando, hold/sustain, note repeat and – another nice feature – a flanger.

There is minimal interfacing here: high and low outputs, headphone jack, and an expression pedal input for volume control – but the advantage of this is that the 100P begs to be played. Forget your CV/Gate, your MIDI and USB – forget how many demisemiquavers you can quantize at 300BPM – flex your finger joints and have some fun!

NOTE: The underside of the S-100P bears a sticker labelled "Manufactured under license from ARP Instruments Inc, USP 3,965,789". This refers to the "Electronic Musical Instrument Effects Control" – the aftertouch."

Sitar String Model

YouTube Uploaded by surgesg on Mar 9, 2012

"As a second challenge in the seminar on how objects vibrate, taught by Miller Puckette at UCSD, we were asked to simulate the non-linear way a sitar string interacts with the sitar bridge. In a typical string, like on a guitar, the string maintains a fixed length regardless of whether it is moving upward or downward. Since a sitar bridge is a wide, flat object, with tapered edges, the string comes into contact with different amounts of the bridge depending on its direction of travel.

This is a physical model developed in Max to simulate the sitar string."

DDVCO & CGS1 DEMO

YouTube Uploaded by davidryle on Mar 9, 2012

"Synthetic Sound Labs, Cat Girl Synth and Ian Fritz team up to make for a great sound. The Double Deka VCO designed by Ian Fritz and enhanced by Doug Slocum of SSL is a dual channel ultrasonic oscillator with loads of modulation parameters as well as ring modulation and cv octave switching. The CGS01 is a dual channel frequency divider, ring modulator, multiplier processor. When these two modules come together all mayhem is redefined.
The patch is both channel A and channel B from the DDVCO out into the CGS01 inputs. The outputs are then sent back into the DDVCO's Linear & Exponential FM inputs. The Lin FM is routed through a vca and modified by an SSL Tap Tempo LFO in places in the demo. Switching on the DDVCO is done on the Linear FM between AC/DC response.
A Tap Tempo LFO is also used in this demo to add some modulation to the Linear frequency FM input.
Various timbre are heard from the combo such as video game sounds as well as big bass, electronic percussion and formant sounds. I even had fun playing the sub oscillator like a motorbike throttle. No filters are used, but I did employ a Lexicon MX200 digital delay for some rhythmic fun."

This video shows you the third party Audio Unit to install, how to install, and how to configure the MC-303 to recognize Garageband.

This should work for any other sequencer, such as an Electribe or what have you, and it should work for sequencing an external synth, like the Akai Miniak. This video only shows how to midi sync clock data and start/stop messages.

I am posting a video soon of the song at the end, performed live on the MC-303. If you like it, subscribe or come by my channel to see it. Enjoy!"
