Haxxor 'TANDY ANALOG DRUM' Lo-Fi Analog Drum Synth (March 2014)

"The TANDY ELECTRONIC DRUM is a Lo-Fi Analog Drum Synth from the late 1980's. It looks like it was modeled on the Simmons drums, and has the same hexagonal pads, and even sounds similar (albeit distinctly Lo-Fi).

Loads of mods on this machine, including a miniature Step-Sequencer for triggering the sounds & an equally miniature Analog Delay (Space Echo).

I have another one of these beauties stashed away in my workshop, so the next 'Tandy' project will be a dissection and attempt at reverse engineering, in order to get schematics and re-create the drum modules. I particularly like the 'Phaser' sound on this machine, and it'll work nicely in my (soon to be completed) TR-808 / 909clone..."

"In this video I recreate the drum pattern to Thriller using the same tools, with the exception of the Roland tr-8. A Tr-808 was used, however it has no midi, so the Tr-8 was much easier to sync with the Linn. The sound is the same though. I also used Bruce Swediens Harrison EQ for the Linn and emt 250 plugin for reverb. This got the sound exactly the same. Enjoy!"

"In this video I compare the Aira Tr-8 and the Tr-808. This is an unibased comparison. I am not being paid by any companies. Keep in mind that most differences are related to tuning . It is difficult to get the tuning 100 percent. Each 808 is different and mine is no exception. In fact Mine has a longer decay on the kick than most and my snare and cowbell are tuned high. Also, i did not go through every drum sound because it would require lots of time adjusting volume levels on the fly. one cannot simply mute/unmute the 808. Enjoy!"

"Roland Tr-808 demo. Dry. Here I go through some of the patterns I have created on the TR-808. You guys might recognize Sexual Healing at 2:21. I tried to create patterns that were modern and characteristic of how the TR 808 would be used in modern music. These are not retro patterns. I think you guys will get a nice idea of the sounds. It really does sound fantastic. Although I won't be selling mine, I think the new AIRA TR-8 will replace this for all of my needs. It sounds just about as good as this. Way to go Roland!"

that's right kids....gather round' ...

this synth had a broken keybed and busted up corner that was beyond repair, due to a head-on collision with a fallen speaker cabinet. the synth section was clean & untouched. so instead of throwing away a perfectly good synth engine, we removed the keybed, cut away the broken parts, cut and trimmed some plastic, boxed it in & gave it a quick coat of paint...now its a working synth module that is definitely one of a kind....sounds fantastic, works great and looks pretty good, considering what it did look like...

all features & functions still work as they should except of course the Octave +/- buttons have no effect as they were hardwired into the original keyboard. the buttons still light but the octave function is now controlled by your midi keyboard or favorite controller.

understand you are buying a homemade electronic project, this is not a factory or store bought item, we simply saved a great sounding synth from a fate worse than death by removing the broken & bad parts & making a makeshift wooden box around it, we are selling item as is and as stated and make no claims of longevity and give no warranties.

maybe you can come up with a better design, color or idea for this very cool box. or just use it and enjoy it as it is!"

Asheville, NC - March 26, 2014... In tribute to pioneer Bob Moog's upcoming 80th birthday, maestro synthesist Erik Norlander and his band The Galactic Collective will perform a benefit concert for the Bob Moog Foundation at Isis Music Hall on May 8, 2014 at 8pm. Opening for the band will be Drew Heller, the guitarist for Toubab Krewe, joined by his father, Grammy award winning producer/composer Steven Heller. Tickets are $20, with proceeds benefitting Dr. Bob's Sound School, the Foundation's hallmark educational project.

The Galactic Collective is a re-imagining of Norlander's favorite instrumental songs written for his band Rocket Scientists, his chanteuse spouse Lana Lane, and his many solo albums including Threshold, Into the Sunset, Music Machine and Seas of Orion. He is an accomplished keyboardist and composer who has produced over 30 albums. He has toured and recorded as the keyboardist and co-writer for the Asia spinoff, Asia Featuring John Payne, since 2007 and has also toured extensively with Big Noize, a hard rock supergroup featuring Joe Lynn Turner, Vinny Appice and other rock luminaries. Norlander has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Bob Moog Foundation since 2007, including performing the benefit Moogus Operandi at Asheville's Orange Peel in 2011.

Norlander comments, "Bob Moog brought a new voice to the musical landscape, and our musical vernacular would be very different without his enduring contribution. The Moog name is synonymous with art, science and innovation, and as a keyboardist and synthesist, I can think of no greater tribute than using Bob's timeless inventions as the core instruments in my own craft."

Steven Heller was a longtime friend and colleague of Bob Moog. He has won two Grammy Awards, as well as a number of national awards for his music and recordings. He was production music supervisor for the 1995 Miramax film, "The Journey of August King." and wrote and produced the theme music for "Conversations" and "Evening Rounds," listener call-in programs on the public radio station WCQS.

"Bob was a brilliant, funny, creative, spiritual, loving and generous man," remarks Heller. "I will always cherish our friendship."

Guitarist Drew Heller tours nationally with Afro fusion band Toubab Krewe. Toubab Krewe's first album, Toubab Krewe was released in 2005, around the time that Moog was critically ill. The band's exceptional musicianship left him sonically inspired. Moog's 80th birthday is May 23rd.

Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation, adds, "On the eve of Bob's 80th birthday, it is a fitting tribute to have these two musical acts converging for an evening of celebration and reverence for Bob's enduring legacy of inspiration though sonic exploration. We are grateful to all of the musicians involved for making this possible."

Isis Music Hall, located at 743 Haywood Road in West Asheville, prides itself on a high quality audio experience. Isis is renowned for its dinner service, which begins at 5pm each evening. On August 21, 2005, Bob Moog succumbed to an aggressive brain tumor. His passing touched legions of people around the world.

In the month prior to his passing, Bob discovered the music of Toubab Krewe, an new, local african/rock fusion band who was, at the time, managed by Bob's longtime friend Steven Heller. One sleepless night he listened to their new self-titled CD over and over again, and was deeply moved by the quality of the musicianship. This beautiful video explores the reach of the Moog Legacy as it has touched Toubab Krewe and as it is manifested in the Bob Moog Foundation.

We owe a huge thanks to many people who helped make this video a reality. The video was shot in the studio of world-class Echo Mountain Recording in Asheville, North Carolina. The owner, Steve Wilhelm and their manager, Jessica Tomilson, continue to be a wonderfully supportive to the Foundation's mission. The exceptional filmmaking team that donated their services to make this video a possibility was a collaboration between David Bragg of Flying Pigs Studio and the late Margaret Lauzon of Studio South, among other local talents."

"You are bidding on a 9 out of 10 cosmetic 10 of 10 functionality tr-909. It looks like it was kept in the box for 25 years and never used. The protection plastic is still on the serial number plates on the bottom. I managed to find one extremely small mark on the gray plastic side on the bottom shown in the picture. There are also a couple small marks on the bottom(pictured) that could probably be removed with a little tlc.

I've handled many TR-909's and I've never had one this clean before. Bid with confidence. There's no discoloration, no paint ware or anything of that sort.
This is one of those pieces I'd recommend for people looking for collector pieces. That being said, it should also be used in the studio because it sounds fantastic!
All buttons and pots work with no scratching.

The PSU has been recapped and the firmware has been upgraded to the newest (Ver 4). It includes an M-64C memory cart in the box with like new sticker labels. A brand new custom TR-909 dust cover and the original box/foam/plastic bag. The manual is a very nice printed/bound version (An original could be had pretty easily on eBay)!"

"Clare Lindley, ferocious and fabulous fiddler with Stackridge, showcases her mellower classical side in this glorious, rich and nuanced collection of voices for the M3000. Recorded and engineered in Bath at the studio of her bandmate Glenn Tommey, the Clare Lindley Violin Collection is a unique collection of string sounds, and is the first time a large set of 35 semitone mellotron tapes has been created around a single artist's performances.

By recording everything in a single, marathon session, we have maintained excellent tonal consistency of sound between the 7 unique voices, which are also provided pre-mixed as 3 'ensemble' voices to provide 10 voices in total.

As is traditional, the test tune is LJ Rich's wonderful '30 Shades of Tron', the official M3000 HD theme tune. Movement between AB and C is happening during 'Oscillotron' mode (when the touch rotary control is off-screen) by manipulating the the Mod wheel on the attached MIDI keyboard. ABC tron is moving betwen Pizzicato, Spiccato and the 'soft, no vibrato Arco' voices, Tron D plays 'Ensemble1', which is a blend of 2 different 'soft, no vibrato Arco' voices, and has a remarkable French Horn / Colliery Brass kind of sound. The very soft attacks lead to a surprisingly non-violin sound, which forms beautiful low-level beds underneath just about anything, and the surprising nature of this particular voice was a real bonus, discovered only during mastering of the recordings.

The Clare Lindley Violin Collection is in Review with Apple, and will be available an in-app purchase for owners of Mellotronics M3000 HD running iOS 7 or above."

"The TTSH is an ARP 2600 DIY clone from The Human Comparator (http://www.thehumancomparator.net). I built mine in March 2014, as seen in this time lapse. Some parts of the build were not documented due to battery running out.

All sounds in the video come from this synthesizer. The middle section is the TTSH sequencing itself via sample and hold. The intro and outro sections are sequenced by an Elektron Analog 4, and the outro section is multi tracked.
