Korg Monologue Analog Synth Demo

Published on Jan 13, 2017 Perfect Circuit Audio

MATRIXSYNTH members get a %10 discount at Perfect Circuit Audio! See the membership page for details.

"Featuring a completely new two-pole filter and drive, expanded sixteen step sequencer, motion sequencing, and built-in facility for microtonal tunings, the Monologue offers a vast array of options for making everything from ripping leads to punchy basslines to churning sound effects.

The Monologue's voice architecture is much like the Minilogue's: two VCOs, one VCF, one EG, one VCA, and one LFO. Some of the tone-shaping capabilities are carried over from the Minilogue, such as ring mod and oscillator sync. However, the Monologue also features an adjustable drive circuit and completely new filter that together can be used for both sutble and aggressive distortion effects.

In keeping with the approachability of their other offerings, the knob-per-function design of the Monologue makes it a perfect choice for performing musicians who need quick access to all controls as well as beginning synthesists who are starting to explore the vast potential of analog synthesizers."

Arp Quadra

via this auction

"For sale is an Arp Quadra, one of the rare vintage analog synthesizers. It's a super cool synth with very unique tone and layout. You hardly ever see these up for sale and if you're reading this auction, you've probably been already been waiting a good number of years one of these. This particular unit has some issues and is sold as-is for parts/repairs. Please read below for a full description and additional pictures.

Cosmetically it's in near mint shape. Looks absolutely amazing. The graphics are crisp and very little signs of use all around.

Functional it has some issues but it should be fixable in the right hands.
After extensive testing, here's what's working:
Powers on, all keys trigger properly, sound outputs from the main 1/4" outs on the rear.
Moving from left to right on the panel:
Portamento working
Bass section: All sliders work, Elec Bass 16' and 8' work. The Strings bass 8' works but only on occasion, and the 16' does not seem to activate.
Strings section: all parts working
Hollow waveform: not responding when pressed
Poly synthesizer: 4' is working, other parts of this section temperamental and not fully working
Phase Shifter/Output mixer: All sections appear to be working as they should
Lead Synthesizer: All sections appear to be working as they should
Programmable Voices: All buttons 1-16 respond with changing LEDs and changing sounds, though some patches do not sound as exciting as others, likely due to corresponding sections not being fully functional.

In general it could use a tuning/calibration and some sliders show scratchiness and are a little on the stiff side, but still easy enough to move. Any features not mentioned above have not be tested.

Considering there are some functional issues, this unit has to be sold as-is condition, for parts/repairs with no guarantees on its functional condition. It can be shipped with the included flight case or packed without the case into a very safe cardboard box with many layers of bubblewrap (which I personally recommend from experience as it cuts the weight down and keeps the synth extra protected). In any case I'll do my best to pack it safely for the trip."

DSI PRO 2 RHYTHMIC SOUND DESIGN TUTORIAL ON THE DSI PRO 2 ~ Synthesize This! Ep.08

Published on Jan 13, 2017 once upon a synth

"I make a patch centered around the sequencer on the Pro 2 synth. I make use of all 4 oscillators and utilize the wavetables. Multiple sequencer tracks are then used as modulation sources to create a moving rhythmic patch. Finally distortion and delay is applied to spice things up. We're not going after emulating a specific patch here. Rather, I'm just building a patch from scratch and improvising along the way to keep things moving and interesting."

Echo of Humanity from John Wegner and Kaiboard

Published on Jan 13, 2017 Kaiboard

"A time-asynchronous jam session between John Wegner (Australia) and Kaiboard (Germany). It all started when I saw a video of a drone flying over the destroyed city of Aleppo and discussed this with John. We both felt this loneliness and desperation of the people there. Two years ago we did the ‘Throw Me Away‘ project ( http://www.fandalism.com/kaiboard/dqSg ) which addressed a similar topic, so we had a common understanding. Then the idea of a virtual jam session came up with music that expresses the loneliness, the sadness but also with a glimpse of hope and humanity. We started with creating some live played stuff on the keys (mainly using analog synthesizers and sequencers) and John added beautiful guitar, also playing live. So, it was like a live session but not played at the same time. Both of us were alone but we made some music together overcoming thousands of kilometers, different languages and cultures, expressing a common view on the world. And it felt good!

The video from Aleppo is available on multiple sources. We’re aware that often footage like this is published with a political intention. We follow none of these intentions, our intention is just to rise awareness of the insane things happening these times in many placed of the earth. We took the version from Euronews, you find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkb3y... . We’re using it for a strictly non-commercial purpose."

Shocking drone footage shows Aleppo destruction

World 1st Radioactive Synth Module?

Geiger counter synth module with uranium ore

Published on Jan 13, 2017 thenervoussquirrel

Update: see the comments below for the answer.

You'll be twisting those knobs with stubs for fingers in no time!

"Produces random voltages by comparing the time between clicks. Initially counts three clicks, then takes the time between 1 and 3 as the overall range mapped to 5V, and click 2 as the voltage level. It then waits for the next click to replace click 3, and re-assigns the previous 2 and 3 to the new 1 and 2, if that makes sense.

The 5V is converted into a control voltage signal, with adjustable range and offset, adapted from Ken Stone's joystick schematic. Glide has also been borrowed from a CGS module. Also produces a trigger output every time the geiger counter is activated."

Hammond Novachord with Sweetwater's Daniel Fisher

Published on Jan 10, 2017 SweetwaterSound

"Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater’s full-time synth fanatic, gives an in-depth tour of the Hammond Novachord, which is widely regarded as the father of the modern polyphonic synthesizer. It debuted at the 1939 World’ Fair and featured 72-note polyphony, oscillators, filters, envelopes, and frequency modulation, which were used to craft its organic and otherworldly sounds.

After a close look at all of the Novachord’s parameters and internal components, Daniel gives an impromptu performance while sweeping through all of the parameters’ values. Then, as an example of what it would sound like in modern times, Fisher plays the Novachord through an Eventide H9 Multi-Effects Processor.

Only five fully restored Novachords are known to exist today.

Joseph Fill and his son, Justin, poured more than 2,000 hours of work restoring this 1941 Hammond Novachord. They replaced countless components, rewired all the connections, and then cleaned and polished the internal and external surfaces by hand.

Please feel free to contact Joe Fill if you wish to inquire about purchasing this beautifully restored piece of musical instrument history: hangarjoe@sbcglobal.net"

New MacBeth Exacta Hardware Synthesizer with TouchPlate Keys

Three pics of Ken MacBeth's Exacta Synthesizer in the works. You can see by the panel print this is clearly a prototype. No additional details at this point, but you can see the features via the control panel yourself.

Two oscillators, a control oscillator replacing the LFO on other synths, VCF, two envelopes, left AND right delay, mixer, PWM, pitch bend, and glide. Regarding the control oscillator vs. LFO, LFO stands for Low Frequency Osicallator, so I'm guessing this one goes into audio range.

Electro/FL Breaks Style : Monomachine, Circuit, Bass Station 2

Published on Jan 13, 2017 Matt Greer

"Live Electro FL Breaks style EDM using Elektron Monomachine, Novation Circuit and Novation Bass Station 2

Hello,

So, as I mentioned in the description of my last video, I've got some gigs soon. The first is Feb. 11th and I'm writing a new set for the occasion. This is meant to be the second song.

I haven't quite dialed in the arrangement on this piece yet. I feel it looses a little steam in the middle. I think I need to vary the arp line on the BS2 a little more and... ANYWAYS, I went ahead and recorded it for reference because now I'm to writing the next and I'll iron out the wrinkles during the practice phase ahead of the gig. These videos are really for me to use so I can remember how to perform each tune but I believe in sharing so here it is for the world as well.

Thanks for watching. Track 3 should be coming pretty soon, maybe a week or so. Stay tuned."
