Mark Verbos - live at SUPERBOOTH23

video upload by Superbooth Berlin

"For many years Mark Verbos has been making a range of synthesizer modules in Eurorack format. His modules are famous for their Buchla heritage and unparalleled look. On the other hand Mark is also a live performer, a music producer/engineer and music equipment technician with 20 years of experience. He is known to the synth community for his work with vintage Buchla systems as well as custom modules that work with them. His designs are focused on discrete transistor circuits, hardware CMOS logic and various vintage electronics design techniques, however they are presented with an understanding of how modular gear is used by this generation."

Buchla Time Domain Processor 288v - Demo

video upload by batchas

"This is a demo of the Buchla Time Domain Processor 288v made by Mark Verbos.
I'm glad I could finish a demo that I started in 2012 (!!!). It's far to be perfect and I hope you'll forgive the video quality, but I'm not a YouTube influencer.
I invest time and money in musical instruments, not in cameras, light etc. Nevertheless I hope this demo will be useful, also for all of you who asked what were the differences between the 288v and the 288r recently released, that I tested when it came out and found very different."

$6,879.78 Buchla 266 Source of Uncertainty

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

This appears to be the front panel of an original 1976 Buchla 266 Source of Uncertainty with the guts and parts of a clone by Mark Verbos. The seller is Mark and you can find one featured on his website here. From the listing:

"Around 2001 Don Buchla had a 'garage sale' to get rid of the left overs from back in the day. The Audities Foundation synth museum in Canada walked out with a box full of unassembled and partial modules. In 2006 they hired me to build those up. This 266 is from that lot. It is built exactly to the original spec, but with the schematic errors in the design corrected and nice quality Alpha pots (not the plastic CTS garbage that the vintage ones used).

I have heard a rumor that the original product run was 10 units, so this is likely the only chance of getting one. Please do not contact me to tell me about how this is not original enough for you, just don't buy it. The last one from this lot that sold, sold for this price. Local pick up in Berlin is very much preferred."

Update: I'm hearing the number was closer to 30 units.

Catalyst Audio 156v Control Voltage Porcessor - Buchla System 100 Eurorack Module

via this auction

"The model 156v was likely the first "CV manipulation" tool ever available to modular synthesists. In the original 100 series environment, the 156 was used as a front end to nearly every other module with a CV input. The majority of CV inputs throughout the 100 series do not have associated attenuators or offsets built into the modules, and thus they relied on the 156 to scale, offset, and attenuate the voltages traveling around the system. The 156V consists of 2 independent “voltage processors” Each with a control to mix the two inputs, add a voltage offset (positive only), and then a control to mix between the external CV to be processed and the internal offset. In addition, the "B" channel has an inverting input. The 156V is as close a replica to the original 156 as possible, and is built entirely of discrete analog components.

The Model 156V (Like all 100 Series Modules) is based off of designs originally pioneered by Don Buchla while working with the San Francisco Tape Music Center."

This is the first post to feature the 156V.

"Michael Zähl [worked on mixing consoles for Conny Plank & CAN] presents his console AM1 and especially the CV-channel that was developed together with Mark Verbos. Mark Ernestus has also played an important part in the developmentof this very special analog mixing console. His way of working with analog consoles shaped the concept of the AM1.

Apologies for the audio problems with the microphone."

Cloud Aquarium

Published on Nov 19, 2018 voltlife

"Deep drones and burbly feedback give an underwater feel to this dark ambient generative patch.

The only sound source is the E352 Cloud Terrarium, in the new detune mode. A Triple Sloth slowly modulates both wavetables, plus the detune for the second output, which is set to octave/4th/5th mode to create shifting intervals. The outputs are mixed into a Verbos Multitap Delay, which runs through a Pittsburgh Filter as a feedback loop. One of the Verbos envelope followers modulates the cutoff of the high pass filter, which gives a quasi-limiting effect as well as shifting tonality. Another Triple Sloth output modulates the filter resonance, pushing it close to self-oscillation for burbles and sci-fi sound fx."

Mark Verbos Live Improvised Modular Set at Brighton Modular Meet 2018

Published on Jul 17, 2018 DivKidVideo

"Having spoke to Mark Verbos before his live set I knew this was going to be all modular, live and improvised. I was expecting ambient (although gritty and more abstract than smooth drones) tones and textures however this developed and moved with the room and the crowd to suit the DJ before hand and Ebcidic performing afterwards. The set moves from stereo delays with the new Verbos Electronics Multitap delay which echo'd around the room beautifully through to suiting a Berlin club at 4am with slower and stomping techno patterns. It's dark and gritty throughout and all emerges from a small system.

Mark was using his own 6U 104hp Verbos system as well as a 3U skiff of Verbos modules alongside a mixer with some FX built in.

This footage is from the Brighton Modular Meet on the 1st of July 2018. The event is held at the Attenborough Centre for the Arts at the University of Sussex. More information here - http://brightonmodularmeet.co.uk . This footage however is from the after party held at the sea front club 'Patterns'."

(Gen~ allows a kind of Low Level coding [inside Max] that can be computed directly over the CPU, needs less resources and sounds much better.)
