"Our fourteenth winner of the Modular Pic of the Week contest goes to Andre Theelen for his 'Light Painting Buchlaesque.'
Andre Theelen released 1 audio cassette and 2 CDs of electronic music between 1992 and 1996 under the name of Syndrone (together with Harold Teunissen). Three years ago he picked up music again and started building modular synthesizers to be used in new music.
For more info, please check out Andre's website: http://www.ecalpemos.nl
We'd like to give a big thanks and congratulations to Andre Theelen for his submission! This is the 14th week of a 30-week contest, and we are looking forward to many more modular photo submissions, so please keep 'em coming! For details on how to submit and what you can win, see this post.
For more info on the upcoming 'I Dream of Wires' documentary, be sure to see the trailer and IndieGoGo fund raising campaign here.

Mantle Sound Core (live)
"Composed of tour footage from Mantle Sound Core's MG3998 West Coast Winter Tour 2011.
No post-production color filters used in the video. All footage was shot during the concerts and any visual effects, colors, lighting, seen in the music video here came from multiple live multimedia projections of A/V feeds from equipment including an NES system (Contra shown), "Holy Desert" an original feature film by Mantle Sound Core, and live camera feeds projected during the show. All of the gear was also run thru and manipulated with an LZX Visionary modular video synthesizer, and in addition to being projected was--when working correctly--broadcast to old boomboxes with built-in TVs which we set up around the venues. A traveling art-installation you might say. Enjoy.

Mantle Sound Core is a solo electronica earth ambient noise act based out of San Francisco, CA. MSC shows involve analog drum machines+synthesizers and a multitude of vintage cassette blasters playing homemade tape collages, creating live soundtrack compositions to live video manipulations. The shows center around a screening of the feature length movie Holy Desert, a film produced and directed by MSC, shot in Death Valley in February 2011."

AngryOctopus Webitaur
Moog Minitaur inspired online synth at AngryOctopus.
"Once again the NAMM videos have inspired me to have a go at a web version of an analog synth. This time round it’s the awesome looking Moog Minitaur. As usual it is unlikely to sound anywhere near as good as the real thing but will give you some idea of the types of sounds it is capable of. The filter in this one sounds a bit better than my previous synths as a result of trying out some delay-less feedback techniques."

Farfisa Syntorchestra analog synthesizer - rare wooden version
via this auction
"From the web (http://till-kopper.de/syntorchestra.html)
According to the very well done book "A-Z of Analogue Synthesisers" by Peter Forrest, this little thing was built from late 1975 till 1978. It was available in a metal stage and a more organ like wood housing version. Here you see the wooden version. It is built from chipboard covered by real veneer that looks like cherry wood to me. Only the vertical stripe above the keyboard action is real wood. The bottom plate is identically to the metal housing version. That is why one finds there some clips to attach the note book holder (made of a thick chrome covered thread) of the metal housing version there. The front and the housing left and right the keyboard are made of metal..."

"The mods are:
Switched Mono mini Jack Output - Put this through your amp, PC/Laptop, mixer or Effects unit to further enhance the circuit bent sounds!
Green LED
Two Mini Switches - Both these produce a type of high squeeling noise. these do work best when the unit is slow right down.
Pitch Down Control - Takes the voices to an extremely slow speed creating grainey noise. this works well with the noise bends.
The unit does have some marks on it. Runs on 2 AA batteries"

Serge Modular with Modcan Touch Sequencer and Strymon Blue Sky Reverberator
YouTube Uploaded by iVardensphere on Jan 28, 2012
"This pretty simple set up is primarily to test the functionality of the new Modcan Touch Sequencer on my Serge rig.
I'm sending lines of sequence to the 1v/oct ins on the Animoo's oscillators as well as a couple of the cv ins on the Wave Multipliers. I'm also sending gates to the DUSG for enveloping the filter and the Slope Detector on the Custom Buchla panel (I love that panel).
The audio outputs are passed through a Strymon Blue Sky Reverberator. It's a beautiful reverb pedal that adds and enormous amount of air and dimension to the sound.
In a future video I'll dig deeper into the abilities of the Modcan Sequencer as well as the soon-to-arrive Serge Animate panel:-)
