Performing in a Cathedral - Marc-Henri at Saint Bonaventure in Lyon

Published on Apr 15, 2013 RADIOKLOW·77 videos

The Access Virus acts as a controller in this performance. The first sounds you hear are actually the Roland V-Synth XT. Later it controls the Snow. The Little Phatty controls the Blofeld.

'Concert with poetic reading given at Saint Bonaventure of Lyon, during the festival "Artistic Adventures at the Cordeliers' the 10th of march 2013.

With Marie-Ange Sebasti : poems and Marc-Henri Arfeux : synthesizers (Virus TI, Roland V-Synth XT, Virus Snow Blofeld, Little Phatty).

Many thanks to Michel Morlot.

This concert lasted one hour, but since we had small technical problems with the filming, I decided to select 45mn of the whole show, divided into five moments, from the beginning to the end."

Marc-Henri dedicates the performance to the people of Boston and the inocent victims.

Update: Video of the performance added above.

Pics of via Marc-Henri's (aka RADIOKLOW) setup and performance at Saint Bonaventure in Lyon. The performance was yesterday, April 10.  Four of the pics were taken in the afternoon before the performance. The second to last is a still from a video of the performance which will be available at a later date.  You can see an Access Virus TI & Snow, Moog Little Phatty, Roland V-Synth XT Rack and Waldorf Blofeld. I asked Marc-Henri if I could post the images as you do not see this every day. The video of the performance will follow when ready. Until then, see the RADIOKLOW and Marc-Henri links above for previous posts featuring Marc-Henri's work. He is a true explorer of sound and his compositions with the Access Virus Ti are reminiscent of what others do with expansive modular systems.

Vermona DRM1 MKIII "Tuned Kit"

Published on Apr 11, 2013 Jesse Juup·39 videos

"I was playing around in the studio, hooked up the Vermona into an old "guitar pedal" CMP-5 Compressor (vintage, was available under several brands), then tuned the DRM1 into a funky ringing tune and just recorded it to store the "preset" as a video. Perhaps some other DRM1 users will want pause the video and see if they can get theirs in the same kind of a tuned kit stage? Just use a compressor to pass some snappy attack and smash the rest pretty flat. The added noise just added character (using the headphones out, the main outs in the back are more quiet) and the cheap compressor added some roughness and ambient noise too."

"UVI introduces a massive library inspired by four 90s classic keyboards – the Yamaha SY77, the Korg M1, the Roland D50 and the Ensoniq VFX : UVI Digital Synsations

A NEW BREED

In the late 80's and early 90's the synthesizer landscape began to change. A new breed of keyboards began appearing in shops, records and on stage; matte black behemoths eschewing the familiar knob arrays for uniform clusters of discrete buttons and glowing green LCD screens. They signaled more than a shift in interaction with our musical counterparts‚ they ushered in the era of the digital synth.

To those willing to forgo the immediacy and ease-of-editing of the analog synth world these keyboards offered amazing features for the time; massive polyphony, extensive on-board sequencers and pattern memory, removable storage and digital effects. In addition to the immediate benefits of digital processing some of these keyboards also dawned innovative hybrid synthesis techniques, combining sample playback with classic methods allowing synthesists and musicians the opportunity to explore new sonic territory.

4 CLASSICS, MASSIVE PATCH LIBRARY

The possibilities with a few of these classics was more than we could bear and became the inspiration for our new project, Digital Synsations. We took 4 classic keyboards from the era and set our sound designers loose, tasking them to return with boundary-pushing sounds‚and they did. Digital Synsations includes over 500 patches expertly programmed on a fully restored Yamaha SY77, Korg M1, Roland D50 and Ensoniq VFX‚ used by many of the greats including Depeche Mode, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys, Vangelis, Brian Eno, Toto, 808 State, Jean Michael Jarre and more.

PRISTINE SOUND, DEEPLY EDITABLE

We deeply multi-sampled these custom patches using top-shelf equipment and edited them to perfection before sending them off for professional mastering. These sonics became the foundation for our new hybrid instrument and combined with the UVI Engine give you the true character of these classic synths with all of the peculiarities and programming by products intact. Not only that but you get them in an extremely easy to use and fast to edit environment complete with all the features you expect from a modern virtual instrument.

If you're looking for a new take on the 90's sound or just some new classic synth inspiration then look no further.

SYNSATIONAL INSPIRATIONS

The SY77 combines next generation FM synthesis with 16-bit sampled sounds from internal memory or stored on removable ROM cards. The AFM engine on these synths allows you to freely apply filters and envelopes to any of the sampled sounds and then roll the resulting waveforms back into the FM algorithm prior to further filtering. This novel approach, dubbed RCM hybrid synthesis, can be used to yield extremely versatile sonic results.

The M1 employs AI (Advanced Integrated) synthesis, a hybrid synthesis engine that allows the creation of sounds made up of 16-bit multisamples or harmonic tables generated from by digital analysis from sample data similar to additive synthesis. These methods can be employed in parallel for even greater sonic diversity.

The VFX used a wavetable like synthesis method similar to that of the PPG Wave. Up to 6 waves can combined and layered into a single patch which feeds an impressive array of dual multi-mode filters, three 11-stage envelopes, an LFO and a 24-bit effects processor. Advanced parameter mapping allows up to 15 sources to be used for extremely complex modulations and sound shaping.

The D50 provided a purely digital signal path allowing the combination of 8-bit PCM samples with linear arithmetic synthesis to produce single hybrid sounds or complex cross modulations between the two. Furthermore you could layer two of these sounds together into a patch for a total of 4 digital OSCs. Each OSC could be independently programmed resulting in a remarkable variety of tonal possibilities.

"This is a super rare Firstman fp888 Keyboard , not sure if it would be classified as a synthesizer but here it is .in working condition . I cant find any Information on the model . comes with the original carrying case .everything is working, lights ,switches and sound . all of the keys move freely . seems to me a novice to have , nice action. it can be hooked into a system or you can use it free standing , has its own built in speaker , I don't hear much difference when switching from piano 1 to piano 2 , but works great in all positions . The model 999 can go into the 1500 dollar range .not sure what this one is worth ,I can not find another to compare it with . If i could play this baby would sound like those video games from the 80's in the clavichord position.wood grain case , this is a heavy piece ,pick up is always welcome . view the photos for actual condition . there is some white on the outside of the bag where music is held , shown in one of the photos ."

The KORG M01D is a music workstation based on the KORG M1 the world’sfirst widely known music workstation. The M1 was released in 1988 by KORGInc., one of the most famous and leading electronic musical instrumentcompanies. The KORG M01D reproduces the M1’s unforgettable digital soundsof the 80s such as the “M1 piano”, still heard on many songs today. With 24 voice-polyphony, over 300 sounds and an easy to operate sequencer, the KORG M01D helps you play and create your music at any place, and at anytime, in a palm-size package!

Furthermore, the KORG M01D maximizes the range of music makingpossibilities with the excellent functionality of the Nintendo 3DS dual screensand performs sensuous note input with the sound control mode of the touch screen. This brings the “fun” experience beyond the music workstation, for everyone from beginners to professionals.

The song data and MIDI data can be saved to an SD card so the KORG M01Dcan be used as a sketchpad. You can preserve all of your musical ideas which can be later converted to your DAW system for more serious music production. In addition, anyone can exchange song data using Nintendo 3DS Wi-Fi via the Internet.

Sold in Japan since August 2010 as a package, the KORG M01D has been highlyacclaimed by creators and performers who love gadget musical instruments. Now with this download version, the KORG M01D is available worldwide.

NinjaJamm "Mr. Scruff" Test

Published on Apr 11, 2013

wonderful application!! Ninja is GREAT!!
http://www.ninjajamm.com/

"Ninja Jamm is a free mixing and jamming app that lets anyone instantly remix music from the Ninja Tune label using touch control, state of the art effects and killer music from Ninja artists.

It's a revolutionary fusion of music and software for the iPhone brought to you by Coldcut, the musical innovators at Ninja Tune and the design wizards at seeper.

Combining aspects of DJing, remixing and producing, the app lets anyone experience the excitement of playing with electronic music. Ninja artists such as Bonobo, Amon Tobin, Mr Scruff and Coldcut, provide the tunes for you to jamm with.

As each tune plays, you can switch seamlessly between the original licks and bonus clips, created by highly trained remix Ninjas, whilst glitching and effecting each channel and firing oneshot samples over the top.

Unlike many other music apps, the Jamm experience is very hands-on and immediate- your human feel is their key to enjoying freestyle mix possibilities. You can touch, tilt, shake and use multiple fingers and thumbs to Jamm and record, create a killer version of a favourite Ninja Tune and instantly share it with the world through Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.

The app comes bundled with a free Tunepack, Beats and Pieces3 from Coldcut, the cut'n'paste classic from the DJ duo who helped define both the modern remix with Paid in Full and mashup with Journeys By DJ.

You can expand your collection with more Tunepacks from Ninja artists, available for in-app purchase. Ninja Tune will regularly release new packs, including some from guest artists who haven’t released on the label before. We also plan to release new material exclusively through Ninja Jamm Tunepacks, a new interactive format for the touch-controlled age...

Instant remixing functions in push-button form let any music lover dive right in, yet Ninja Jamm is deep enough to engage DJs, musicians and producers. Download it for free, let your creative instincts run wild, enter the mix and Jamm On!"
