Sonic Potions LXR meets Volca Bass, Mopho and friends

Published on Nov 25, 2013 rudeog·30 videos

"In this episode, the LXR drum machine sequences a Dave Smith Mopho keyboard, a Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1 and keeps a Korg Volca Bass in sync (the volca is running it's own sequence). Bass drum on the LXR is being processed through a Big Muff Pi pedal. All drums are going through a Korg Kaoss pad 3 (doing mainly reverb and LP filter). The Volca Bass is going through a reverb pedal, and the Shruthi-1 is going through an analog delay pedal."

Linn LINNDRUM vintage 1982 drum machine w/ JL Cooper Midi

via this auction

Playlist:
Linndrum Original patterns (11 to 57) + 2
Linndrum with JL Cooper MIDI demo (eBay auction)
Linndrum setup and button test for eBay auction

via the listing: "The machine was recently restored by a professional technician at Ramcur. Every capacitor was replaced with the highest quality available, the circuits were cleaned and some other internal parts were replaced, including the batteries. The machine has a nice powerful sound and no hiss or hum! The case still hums a little, like all Linns, but it's been reduced to a minimum.

I've installed the original patterns back into the machine and wrote a few of my own while testing the unit. Note that you'll need to back up your pattern data when not using the machine regularly, the batteries need a regular charge to hold patterns.

The machine has all the original EPROM sounds Linn Electronics installed circa 1982. it also includes 7 extra EPROMs to change the snare, bass drum and toms sounds to other standard issue Linn sounds.

ZIF sockets are installed in the bass drum and snare sound sockets.

The original "Pre-sets" tape is also included. I uploaded presets via a computer/mp3, the tape looks unused.

It's interesting to note that this unit is serial number 0015, likely making it the 15th made.

The JL Cooper kit plaque in included. It was left uninstalled, it's included and could be added on with double-sided tape.

The Linndrum comes with a nice sturdy road case that was custom made for it. This case explains in parts why this unit was kept in outstanding condition.

To sum it up : It's nicely restored, works perfectly, looks mint and sounds nice and punchy, I honestly think this is the best Linndrum out there!

Go see the 3 videos below for an in-depth demo of the unit.

The auction includes the following items :
Linndrum drum machine
IEC power cable
original owner's manual
Midi kit manual (repro)
custom roadcase
7 extra EPROMs
2 ZIF sockets (installed)
Linndrum CPU (pre-MIDI kit)
original Presets tape."

Vintage 1969 EKO Tiger keyboard/piano/synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a truly vintage Eko Tiger manual combo organ/keyboard. This instrument was made in 1969 (dated inside of the cabinet) and is a fully functional keyboard with all features working. It contains two internal speakers, but they are just for quick monitoring - the keyboard fully blossom when connected to a serious amp and your imagination is the limit when it is run via modern effects, pedals and the means of sound enhancement, like Leslie speakers.

The features are controlled by six colored Hammond drowbar alike switches - they are only on/off switches for the 'mellow, reed, brass, flute, bass chorus & vibrato' functions. The bass volume and tone controls add color and depth to all the functions.

The keyboard/synth is easy to carry with a convenient handle - it weights 36 lb.

The keyboard is in excellent visual condition with no signs of use, it is very clean inside and outside - it looks like it was not used and stored for many years.

It comes with a keyboard cover and AC cord.

Size: 34-3/4"W x 19"D x 7"H. Shipping weight ca. 40 lb."

New Critter and Guitari Melody Mill Eurorack Module

"The Critter & Guitari Melody Mill is a note generation module for Eurorack modular synthesizers. It contains a keyboard, CV outputs, CV clock input, built-in arpeggiators, a sequencer, and MIDI capabilities. The Melody Mill brings the fun of the Pocket Piano to modular setups! With the Melody Mill you can:

Use the CV output to control oscillators
Connect your MIDI controller or computer into your modular setup using the MIDI input
Play notes, record and playback sequences and arpeggios on your favorite modules
Convert MIDI clock into CV pulses
Clock the arpeggiator with an LFO for strange melodies
'Hold' notes for drones
Connect the built-in square wave oscillator directly to a filter or an amp
The Melody Mill generates 1-Volt per octave, trigger, and gate control voltages. These signals are used to trigger other synthesizer modules. Notes may be played on the built-in keyboard or received via MIDI. The notes may be used directly to generate the CV signals, or fed through one of the five arpeggiator modes first. Adding to the fun is a hold button and a simple sequencer to record and playback notes. In addition to the CV outputs, the Melody Mill also outputs MIDI of the note it is generating.

A ‘smart’ arpeggiator clock selects a clock source depending on what is connected to the Melody Mill: CV clock input, MIDI clock, or internal clock (controlled by the 'Rate' knob).

The six modes are:

Single Shot
Up Arpeggio
Down Arpeggio
Pyramid Arpeggio
Alternator Arpeggio
Random Arpeggio

"I spent the weekend working out a on a new computer-less ambient jam rig. Tenori-On and Waldorf Nave (play with multi-touch and via CME XKey) on an iPad are food for Octatrack. I'm using all custom presets I've made on Nave for this piece plus processed Tenori-On (using only Octatrack FX). Just to add some mood lighting I'm using Resolume on a laptop with some video footage in 2 layers. I've mapped the MIDI form Octatrack's cross-fader to do double duty to morph Octatrack parameters and cross-fade between the layers.

iPad is on a TheGigEasy mount with sidearm. You can just make out Thomas Dolby's signature on my CME XKey."

Eowave Magma Bassline Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"The Magma is an analogue bassline synthesizer inspired by classical synths from the 1980s. It offers the possibility to mix 4 x different waveforms (saw, square, sub, noise). The 24dB low-pass filter is also inspired from classical filters from the 80s.

To this particular sound of the 80s, Eowave added a touch of modernity with modern controls and parameters saving features. The 16 x steps sequencer has 4 x rows: 1 for the notes and 3 x freely assignable to a parameter of your choice that enables to create living sequences with sonorities like Vince Clark or Yann Hammer.

FEATURES
VCO can be modulated by LFO and PW
Variable glide
Mixer to mix the 4 waveforms
External audio with a trimmer to feed the filter
24dB low pass filter roland style for a classical 80s sound
Filter can be modulated by env2, KB, lfo
VCA is affected to env1
2 x envelopes ADSR modulate respectively the amplitude and the filter
LFO with 8 waveforms (triangle, ramp up, ramp down, square, random, digital noise, staircase up, staircase down)
USB connection (for software update and MIDI I/O)
4 x rows: 1 x row controls gates and notes
3 x other rows are freely assignable to any parameter of the front panel
Swing and shuffle per note, you can transpose the sequencer with an external MIDI keyboard"

ARP Odyssey Mk II - Model 2810 - 4035 Filter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Up for auction is a very interesting ARP Odyssey model 2810. This vintage synthesizer appears to be one of the first 2810’s made by ARP. It appears to be a factory prototype of the 2810 as the internal serial number engraved into it is 2810-015-PT. We believe the “PT” stands for factory prototype. Based on the component date codes we believe this 2810 was built in 1974. The circuit boards are all mark II. This unit has the sought after 4035 filter (the “Moog” filter.)

Although this unit has several external case dings and scraps here and there, it is in fully functional, excellent working condition and plays great. It has just been refurbished and calibrated by Dean here at Five Star Engineering. Dean was ARP factory certified back in 1976 and has worked on hundreds of ARP Odysseys over the years.

The back portion of the plastic casing has been cut as pictured (ears clipped.) All that was left of the external serial number tag before refurbishing was the hardened label gum, so there is no original external serial number tag presently on it.

This synthesizer has had all of its aluminum and tantalum capacitors replaced. It has had all new key bushings properly installed. All of the slide potentiometers have been properly reconditioned, and they slide like new..."

"Instant 70s and disco action. 1973 Roland RS 101 String Synth. Same as RS 202 but with slightly different chorus. This one has a 3 way switch chorus. Very Rolandy Chorus and also a cool vibrato that is fun to tweak in real time. All working. No cover on this one. Slight body damage on left side but covered by tape. Add a delay pedal and things will get crazy... Classic 70s string sound that is different than the other 2 more famous string synths from that era. Reminds me of David Bowie and Joy Division."

Frequency response: less than 10 Hz to greater than 40 kHz
Distortion: from less than 0.1% to 100%, depending on control settings and input waveform
Hum and noise: less than 0.5 mV
Power input: 10 - 12 volts AC, 50/60 Hz, 0.8 amp at idle
Inputs: phone jacks for audio input; optional inputs for beam-tube CV, VCA CV, and ring-modulator external carrier (requires at least 20v p-p signal for full effect) Output: audio (mono)
Dimensions: 7 1/2" (192mm) x 4 3/8" (112mm) x 3" (77mm)
Weight (not including accessories): 5 pounds (2.2 kg)

From bigcitymusic.com..
'The pentode preamp gives gain and distortion; the pulser injects small pulses on top of the signal; and the beam tube gives both wavefolding and ring modulation (carrier provided by an internal wide-range oscillator, or inject your own carrier signal). The TM-1 can also be used as a self-contained pseudorandom signal generator, by patching its output back to its input. You've read about "strange attractors" and other chaotic sound generation techniques? The TM-1 is the first all-tube chaotic sound generator. The results must be heard to be believed!'"

EVOL AUDIO FUCIFIER DISTORTION SYNTHESIZER/OVERDRIVE FILTER SHAPER

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Evol Fucifier is a distortion synthesizer & sound shaper, designed to give you many colors with which to create and shape your palette of sounds. Everything in the signal chain, from the Mic Pre, the Vintage Germanium Preamp, the Filter, and the inductors in the Equalizer to the output transformer, is designed to be overdriven, saturated, overloaded or distorted in a pleasing way. Mix & match the Vintage Germanium Preamp for a little warmth or overdrive, the Tape Saturation overdrive for a little compression and limiting or a bit of saturation, the Filter/Crossover (which in itself sounds great overdriven or even pushed into self oscillation with a sufficient amount of resonance), the Dual Band Distortion which allows you to mix many different kinds of distortion, and the vintage-style inductor based equalizer to shape the overall tone and color of the sound."

"This vintage Korg FK-1 is the holy grail of filter pedals. They rarely come up for sale and usually are missing the control pedal when they do. This pedal is so much fun to play with and very musically expressive. The only thing not completely original with this one is a tab on the red Traveler fader knobs for the manual filter control has been removed. The tab was supposed to keep the bottom fader from moving to the left of the top fader but many people removed this tab on purpose to facilitate extreme settings. This is a minor alteration and has no bad side effects. Please check the large images and ask any questions before bidding. Cable to connect pedal to unit is included. But instead of just using a sledgehammer I will take it apart gently so I can use some of the parts for other things and at the same time try to analyse why the Elka Preludio 22L is so much better even though the two organs are quite similar in apearance and age.

The music is played on this Elgam Grand Gala while the rhythm is from an Elgam Match 7C analog drum machine. The melody is called "Du ta'r det for givet" in Danish but think it is an American or English song. Does anybody know the original title?"
