"The SEM is Oberheim's first official analog synthesizer. SEM stands for Synthesizer Expander Module. It is conceived with the notion of being used as a backup synth connected to a sequencer for layering or beefing up your existing monophonic analog synths. The SEM itself is a keyboard-less module with two analog oscillators, a 2-pole multimode filter, ADR envelopes, and an LFO. Each of the two oscillators offer triangle or rectangular waveforms. But unlike the Moog and ARP counterparts of the time, the SEM's 2-pole (12dB/oct) filter is a little thin. The others used a 4-pole (24dB/oct) filter which has a steeper roll-off and so it sounds much better. But the SEM's filter offered many modes in addition to low-pass, including high-pass, band-pass and band-reject."

"2 oscillators (sawtooth, square)
1 square suboscillator, audio input
ringmodulator, oscillator sync
2 adsr-envelope generators
voltage controlled 24 db/oct lowpassfilter (vcf)
83 user memory locations
step sequencer with up to 32 steps (20 memory locations)

the synth lite ii is the programable successor of mfb´s popular synth lite. this monophonic synthesizer offers three digital oscillators, external audio input, analogue lowpass filtering with 24db/oct and an analogue voltage controlled amplifier. the synth lite ii is equipped with midi and offers 83 memory locations. mfb has even integrated a programable step sequencer. here are the details: two main oscillators each offer sawtooth and square. in addition, osc 2 can be set to generate an impulse waveform. ring modulation is possible, as well as syncing osc 2 to osc 1.each oscillator´s octave range can be set to 4', 8' or 16'. osc 2 can be further detuned over a range of plus or minus one octave. the voltage controlled filter (vcf) offers 24 db/oct lowpass filtering. emphasis (resonance) can be set up to self-oscillation. an external audio input is also routed directly to the filter. both the voltage controlled filter and the following voltage controlled amplifier have dedicated envelope generators with attack, decay, release and sustain parameters. decay and release share a control and are selected by a switch. the synth lite ii´s lfo can modulate the oscillators´ pitch or the filter cutoff frequency. pulse width modulation for osc 2 is also possible by setting its waveform to impulse. a glide function can be activated with different speeds to achieve popular portamento effects.

midi data is received as note on/off, pitch wheel (+/- 2 semitones) and mod wheel. velocity can be routed to vcf and/or vca, alternately it can be disabled. the sequencer is programed from a midi-keyboard. its resolution is 16th notes with up to 32 steps. pause notes can be set as well as external synchronization.

the mfb-synth lite ii measures 175 x 125 x 35 mm. the power supply unit is included.

Using ChucK to control a Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

Using ChucK to control a Eurorack modular synthesizer. from Icaro Ferre on Vimeo.

"I love integrating software and hardware so, even since I've started learning ChucK, one of my main goals was to write a program that I could use to control my modular synth.
This video shows one of my experiments using both technologies to create some very interesting glitchy patterns.

Here's a super nerdy explanation of what's going on in this video:
The ChucK program basically sends, per note, 2 triggers and 4 random CV offsets based on an auto-generated pattern. It generates these patterns by dividing a 1 bar measure by a random number (which you can define the maximum amount) and sending a trigger for each division. In other words: if it randomly selects to divide it by 8, you'll get a bar of eight notes/triggers.
The 2 triggers are being used to generate AD envelopes using the MakeNoise Maths MK2 and the 4 CV offsets control the Z3000 pitch (via Linear FM), the WMD Geiger Counter WaveTable (via the WaveTable CV input), the uVCA CV A (pre-Geiger Counter) and the Maths CH. 1 decay. By using these random CV offsets, you can get a different sound for each note/hit.

FAT Freebass FB383

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Freeform Analogue Technologies (FAT) Freebass FB383 (also sold as the MAM MB33) is a 1U 19-inch rack-mounting MIDI synthesizer module dedicated to doing just one thing - imitating the sounds of the Roland TB-303 Bassline. It uses genuine analogue technology to produce the familiar 'acid' sounds, but adds MIDI control, so you don't have to cope with the Roland's quirky programming system - just hook up the Freebass to your MIDI sequencer, and play away. Dispensing with fripperies such as patch memories and continuous controllers, the Freebass is all about live performance - once you start twiddling those knobs in real time, you'll be lost in a world of acid madness.

Features include MIDI input, selectable MIDI channel using DIP switches, an audio input for routing eternal sources through the Freebass filter, a single mono output, Auto-tune function, and controls for Tune, Wave (variable between square and sawtooth, so actually capable of a wider range of sounds than the Bassline), Filter Cutoff, Filter Resonance, Envelope Modulation Amount, VCA/VCF Accent (triggered when MIDI velocity signal is above a certain level), Envelope Decay and Master Volume."

via this auction

"Granular workstation with sampler, synth, effects processor and sequencer

Gotharman's Little deFormer combines a granular effects processor with special effects like TimeStretcher, StepGranulator and PitchShaper and more usual effects like Reverb, delay, distortion, compressor, filters and bit manipulation, with some special parameters, with a 100 minutes sampler, a synth and a step sequencer. A MIDI Note Randomizer is also included.

Both the samplings and external gear, connected to it's 2 audio input can be effected. A complete list of effects can be found in the specs section below. Watch and hear Little deFormer in action, in the video's section. I have planned to use the Little deFormer as a platform for engineering new effects, so additional effects will be added now and then, which will be available as free downloads on this site. These updates will be available as MIDI sysex files in".syx" format, and you will need a program like MidiOx to download these to Little deFormer.

The 4note polyphonic sampler makes it possible to record your own samplings directly from the 2 audio inputs, or resample it's audio output. Samplings are stored in FLASH RAM for instant recall, without any loading times. Up to 100 minutes/999 samplings can be kept. Start and end points can be changed in realtime and modulated, and it also has functions like AutoChop, for a conveniant and easy way to cut up long samplings. Each sampling has it's own Phaze effect and filter with LPF, LFP2, BPF, BPF8, HPF, ADD, BEF, BASS, LOFI and SHAPER modes, and a filter mix parameter. It is also possible to adjust the filter response, to create filter types, that have never been heard before. The Little deFormer comes loaded with samplings of other Gotharman gear. Instead of samplings, it is also possible to use Little deFormers buildin oscillators for sound generation. They can morph from sinewave to triangle to sawtooth to squarewave to noise. Pulsewidth modulation is possible on all waveforms.

Hexinverter Jupiter Storm Cosmic Noise Oscillator

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Jupiter Storm is a cosmic noise oscillator. It creates sounds that can only be described as out of this world! Where it differs entirely from other pure noise generators (such as vcNOIZ) is in the algorithm used to produce the sound. Jupiter Storm has a tonal character very much of its own.

Jupiter Storm does not create pure white noise like the vcNOIZ noise oscillator module from hexinverter.net. Rather, it derives what is similar to noise (but not quite) from three square wave oscillators in a unique algorithm. Some of the sounds possible are reminiscent of the sound of a broken radio being blasted with noise from the cosmos, hence, the name "cosmic noise oscillator". This creates noise with significant harmonic content and other such interesting timbres you will not hear anywhere else!

Engage the Noise Core Disruptor to create horrific sounds. In this mode, part of the noise core is creatively abused in order to generate insane sonic textures.

Voltage control inputs for all three square wave VCOs in the noise core are available as well as a control voltage input that addresses all three oscillators at once. In this way, very dynamic sounds can be achieved with complex modulation routing. For example, you can apply a taste of LFO modulation to all three oscillators, while modulating a select oscillator simultaneously on its own with something more drastic.

This module is based entirely around analogue opamps and discrete logic gates. No microcontrollers are used in the design of this module.

Features

Unique square wave noise core creates everything from pitched square wave ringmod-esque textures to hissing and screeching noise tones
Noise core square wave VCOs (not v/oct, but close) each have an output so drones can be created simultaneously alongside noise
Noise Core Disruptor mode creatively abuses the noise algorithm into creating very interesting noise timbres
Four noise outputs, each with their own unique sound in Noise Core Disruption mode
Control voltage input for each oscillator as well as ALL oscillators at once. This allows the creation of complex modulation easily
Planned expansion module adds percussion-specific features that turn Jupiter
Storm into a very capable percussion/sound FX synthesis machine"

Steady State Fate SSF Propogate Eurorack Module

"Propagate is a pimped out analog gate/trigger delay with a dual personality. Propagate works as both a traditional gate delay (LO mode) and an audio rate delay (HI mode), permitting Propagate to behave as a quad PWM tone generator. Just drive the input with a VCO or self patch to create wild PWM tones and glitch noise!

Gate, trigger and other fast attack signals are delayed before converting into a smoothly variable pulse width. The delay and gate length (SPACE) are both voltage controllable – greatly enhancing the power and capability of the device through automation.

Propagate consists of four independent delay stages that provide an input, DELAY control w/CV jack, Speed Mode switch, SPACE control w/CV jack and an output with LED indicator. The delays can be used individually or cascaded if a patch cable is not inserted into the input jacks. The output from the previous stage is normaled to the following stage – permitting the signals to propagate through each delay, from top to bottom. This feature allows creation of longer delays, longer gate lengths, timed/multi-tiered events, sequences, trills and in audio mode a slew of quad PWM tones. All individually or collectively voltage controlled.

All VC parameters of the delay stages can be controlled by the relevant MASTER CV simultaneously, eliminating the need for using multiple patch cables. The Master CV sums with the individual CV, therefore all of the individual DELAY and SPACE parameters can be separately voltage controlled at the same time as MASTER CV via the individual CV inputs.

In addition to the individual outputs, Propagate features a novel SUM jack that is used to output the pulse train of delayed signals. Always connected to the delay stages, SUM can be used alone or in conjunction with the individual outputs for a number of functions. These include gating envelopes while controlling other synched events, combining gates for longer pulse durations, sequences and trills, as a quad PWM output and more. A blue LED indicator flashes with every pulse.

The Manual Trigger is hardwired to the #1 delay stage input. The trigger signal is combined with whatever is present at the input with a discrete OR gate. Use the trigger to initiate a sequence or other event like a self patched feedback loop, or as a general purpose trigger for your modular system.

Propagate is enabled ON by default. A gate signal can be used to turn Propagate's delay engines on or off when a gate signal is applied to the Enable jack. A Hi gate is on, low is off. An LED is provided for visual feedback.

Another novel feature, this input is used to pass or combine an external signal like a clock, random gate or other gate related signal with the SUM output. If Propagate is inactive or not producing a signal, SUM will simply pass whatever is going though the MIX IN. Otherwise the MIX IN signal is logically OR'd with Propagate's SUM output. Logical OR simply outputs a gate hi when both or either signals is high and a gate low when both signals are low. An LED is provided for visual feedback of the input signal.

This is a completely new concept that extends the traditional gate delay into the audio range. The output is a series of high speed pulses that can be shifted with the delay controls to affect pitch and PWM tones with the space controls. Each stage can output a single pulse or they can be combined via the SUM output or externally to produce up to to a quad pulsed waveform with independent PWM for each pulse. This allows for a huge variety of glitch and harmonic rich tones and very complex waveforms when the signals are mixed externally with the ability to invert and attenuate some of the outputs. That being said, the SUM output alone is already capable of a rich array of tones. Add voltage control and you're in serious business! The bandwidth of each delay is roughly 10Hz – 5kHz. Higher and lower pitched waveforms are possible when the pulses are combined and manipulated.

Using the included expansion cable, an indefinite number of Propagate modules can be chained together for huge delays, sequences and ridiculously complex pulsed waveform generation. Every subsequent Propagate in the chain connects a normal (that can be broken) to the last delay of the previous module. Expanding also combines the previous SUM pulse train with the following module's SUM output. Huge matrix delays and complex rhythmic events are possible without the restrictions of quantized divisions.

Gate/Trigger Delay
4 Independent Delay Stages
4 Inputs
4 Delay Controls w/ CV
4 Speed Mode Switches
4 Space Controls w/ CV"

KIWI-106 Upgrade for the Roland Juno-106 Now Available

via Kiwitechnics

"It's been a long two years to keep things quiet, but it's time for Kiwitechnics and Psicraft Designs to let everyone in on the big big secret: Kiwi-106 is now shipping! Guided by such gear luminaries as Dave Lovelace (the creator/author of Keyboard magazine's Packrat comic) and the YouTube channel Juno-106 expert Syntegrator, Kiwitechnics and Psicraft have brought this beloved synth classic out of the 80s and put it where it belongs: The heart of your 21st century studio. An expanded synthesis architecture with dual envelopes and multi-waveform LFOs is only the tip of the creative possibilities that any Juno-106 can now possess. Comprehensive routing of controls, high resolution parameters, and eight groups of 64 patches expand the Juno-106's synthesis capability many times over, but this we're not done yet. Add in a six voice polyphonic 124 step sequencer and a pattern generator to the mix and Juno-106 becomes a new class of instrument. Now design and implement a totally modern MIDI implementation suited for modern stage and studios and provide a free Vyzex professional instrument Mac/Windows editor/librarian along with the price of admission and what do you have? Modern Brains and Vintage Brawn, baby. The Kiwi-106!"
