"This may be the cleanest best condition Moog Prodigy on the market today. It has no apparent wear-see photo with pointing finger for the blemish- it looks fresh out of the Moog shipping box. There is a video online (on a popular video location) of the recent restoration done on this exact unit. Jareth Lackey (also known as SynthPro) did the work and you can hear his comments about this Prodigy and the work performed..."

"Episode 7 (Of 10). Broadcasted in BBC-2, 21 February 1983

Making the Most of the Micro was a TV series broadcast in 1983 as part of the BBC's Computer Literacy Project. It followed the earlier series The Computer Programme. Unlike its predecessor, Making the Most of the Micro delved somewhat deeper into the technicalities and uses that microcomputers could be put to, once again mainly using the BBC Micro in the studio for demonstration purposes. The series was followed by Micro Live.

"Stretch" with Judd Miller at Le Cafe 1986

Published on Feb 22, 2014 PatchmanMusic·17 videos

"Here is a wonderful performance from master studio synthesist and pioneering EVI wind controller player Judd Miller with the group "Stretch" recorded live in 1986 at Le Cafe in California. Wind controller players will appreciate the fact that Judd's Crumar EVI is pre-Midi!! It uses analog control voltage (CV) to control the attached Crumar EVI synth as well as the external Oberheim Xpander. A special guest in the audience is none other than EVI / EWI inventor Nyle Steiner! He is seen at 01:03:20 in the video.

Personnel:

Patchman Music Boss PS-6 Harmonist Wind Controller Demo

Published on Nov 15, 2013 PatchmanMusic·17 videos

"Here is a quick demo courtesy of Matt Traum and Patchman Music of the wonderful Boss PS-6 Harmonist pedal. Matt plays live through several of the Boss PS-6 settings with his EVI wind controller. All harmonies were generated in real time by the PS6 Harmonist. Three different patches were used as the input signal including a simple analog sawtooth lead from a Crumar EVI, the Piccolo Trumpet & Stevie! patches from Patchman Music's TURBO VL upgrade chip installed in a Yamaha VL70-m. A single note was input and the harmonies were all generated in real time and recorded. The Boss PS-6 is an INTELLIGENT harmoniser, that is, you can tell it what key you are in and it will create an appropriate harmony that fits the key of the music. It also does standard pitch shifting as well. You can hear both of these methods in this demo. Get your own Boss PS-6 Harmonist pedal and any other wind controller gear from The Wind Controller Specialists- Patchman Music! Email matt@patchmanmusic.com or call Matt at 440-740-1288."

New Section Fourteen Big Fat D Modular Sequencer

This is the first Section Fourteen post. We have a new maker in town.

via Section Fourteen

"The Big Fat D is a sequencer built with the very popular Arduino (Mega 2560). For those unaware, Arduino is an open source development platform that you can build all types of electronics with. It comes with it’s own IDE which uses Wiring (basically C++) as the programming language.

The inspiration for the project was to create a sequencer to interface with my eurorack modular synthesizer. At the start of the project, I was a complete novice when it came to electronics and had never used a soldering iron. The Big Fat D had somewhere around 400 solder points, so I got pretty good with my Weller soldering iron.

The sequencer has three different operation modes. 32 step, dual 16 step, or quad 8 step. When either dual 16 or quad 8 step mode is enabled, each sequencer acts on it’s own. The sequencer features reset, pendulum mode, an octave range switch and a master reset button for all sequences.

The Big Fat D uses DAC’s (digital to analog converters), Shift Registers and Multiplexers to perform various functions in the circuit. The DAC is used to create a smooth voltage for pitch, while the shift registers and multiplexers are used to minimize the number of pins used on the arduino for lighting led’s and reading potentiometer positions.
I had the front panel, which I designed, custom milled out of aluminum and used an off the shelf enclosure to house the circuit and wiring.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this project. It was my first electronics project and much was learned about building circuits and interfacing with ic's. I foresee many more Arduino based experiments and creations in my future.
The code and a list of ic’s is hosted on github for anyone interested in building their own or simply learning from my code. There isn’t a schematic for the project currently. Drop me a line if you have any questions. about the project.

Fox on the run

Published on Feb 22, 2014 Martin Peters·120 videos

"Here a little tune I came up with this week. Imagine yourself watching a hungry fox in a landscape full of snow. Start this music and let your imagination run wild.

The music starts with string sounds from the Roland XP-80 and the Clavia Nord Lead 1. Then I start the Sequentix Cirklon sequencer which has 3 sequences. One sequence drives the self-built Modular and the Ian Fritz Through-Zero Oscillator which in its turn drives the Blacet MiniWave. The Buchla Resonant LoPass Gate clone is inserted between the self-built Modulars VCF and VCA and I manually control the frequency and resonance knobs. The second sequence drives some percussive sounds from the Oberheim OB-Mx. The third sequence drives the Moog Prodigy which volume I control on the mixer because the Prodigy is behind me and out of reach.

Anne made the video with my iPhone. You can download the video and music from my website soon."

ARP Axxe Mono Synth with Mods SN 1623

via this auction

"This Axxe has had some very usefule modifications. The print layout of this version of the Axxe caused a fairly large bleed from the noise-source output which has been reduced by adding a wire to rerout the noise-source. This Axxe has the 4075 filter module that ARP used in many different synthesizers. Sometime during the design phase, a resistor value was miscalculated; as a result, the 4075's cutoff frequency will not sweep up as high as ARP really wanted it to. This may be partially responsible for the commonly held view that ARP filters do not sound as "snappy" as Moog filters. Timothy Smith designed a modification which will allow the cutoff frequency to sweep up as high as ARP meant it to. The mod simply involves changing four resistors on the board from 4.7 to 2.2K. This Axxe has the mod and there was a very noticeable improvement in sound. There have also been two switches added. The first switch was added to disable the extremely irretating LFO reset function. When the switch is engaged the the LFO free-runs which is very useful for legato runs. The second switch when engaged disables the ADSR retriggering which is standard on Arp synths. The Moog synths use single triggering of the ADSR which is necessary for playing legato runs. Finally the irritating RCS type jacks have been replaced with switchcraft 1/4' jacks..."

Arp Little Brother Synth Expander SN 0141

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Pics of the inside below.

"The keyboard-free Little Brother was designed as an extra voice for any ARP synth. You need to connect the CV, Gate and Trigger outs from the Axxe to equivalent ins on the Little Brother, and connect the audio out from the module to the audio in on the Axxe or Odyssey (note that the Little Brother also has its own audio input). The module could also be used in this way with any other (non-ARP) synth that has an audio input and the right standard of gate and CV inputs.

The Little Brother's spec is deceptively simple: four basic voices (Brass/saw, Hollow/square, Reed/pulse and Fuzz/dynamic pulse), and four octave settings (16-, 8-, 4- and 2-foot) comprise the sound-making facilities on offer, plus a simple LFO with speed, depth and a delay switch, and a volume control. That really is it, although any combination of the eight voice switches can be used at once, for a bigger sound. However, plumb it into the Axxe or Odyssey, and the two become one. Your Axxe/Odyssey now has a fairly complex extra voice, and an extra LFO. This is because the Little Brother's LFO is provided with an output socket, which can be easily patched into the Axxe's footpedal socket, where it can be pressed into service modulating the Axxe's/Odyssey's filter, totally independent of their own LFO.

"The MC-202 is a fantastic synthesizer. It is like a brilliant combination of the roland sh101 and roland tb303. The sequencer can play 2000+note sequences with 2 phrases at once. It's amazing. The synthesizer brain and controls are very much like the SH101. This is based from that with expansion on the Sh101 sequencer section which can inly sequence 100 notes. The Mc202 can do over 2000 notes. Otherwise, it has the same oscillators, filter and envelope controls of the Sh101 + a very nice LFO/mod section. This is really an incredible synth. The sequencing and design is also similar to a TB303. The sounds are totally fantastic and right there with the Sh101 sound. The MC202 can also sequence other analog synthesizers via the gate/cv in/out jacks as well as sync with analog devices via the early midi-type Roland ports."

This may be one of the more cleaner Prophet 10's that you will come across. If you are a gear nut who has to have your gear pristine, even your vintage gear, then you should strongly consider this epic analog monster. Another one like this may not come around for a long time.

Installed in this 10 voice double-stacked prophet 5 wooly mammoth is the preferred MIDI option, and an internally installed fan to keep those 20 oscillators just cool enough to singe your eyebrows.

Notice the cleverly upgraded cassette drive mounted on the left side panel.

PRICE. Yes, our price is crazy, but so is this synth. We are selling this museum piece for a collector who really does not want to sell it, but as they say, everyone has a price, and this is his. So we are pricing it within reach of those who really want something special and can afford the best.

We do not want to disagree with this guy, he played a Klingon in Star Trek IV and he could crush us between his fingers a lot faster than any puny Vulcan nerve pinch. Buy this synth and spare us please!"
