"According to an expert I found on a forum online...The Siel DK-80 is an odd synth that could be said to bridge the gap between low end mid-eighties Roland and Sequential type synthesizers. It is an analog synth with digital control. It is also bi-timbral with a split keyboard mode giving you 2 polysynths in one keyboard! The sounds are OK, and the DK-80 makes a great backup synth. It has an on-board two-track sequencer, chord memory and hold, programmable stereo panning and sweeping. Parameters are edited one at a time and via membrane push buttons. For a fair price the DK-80 is certainly an exotic addition to any synth set up but may be too limited to use as your main or only analog synth."

The instrument is provided with 12 oscillators (DCO), 1 pink noise generator, two 24db/octave low pass Voltage Controlled filters (VCF), 14 digital envelope generators(DEG) and 4 low frequency oscillators (LFO), providing a parallel modulation of parameters such as pitches and filters. All this is controlled by specific controls on the EDIT section and memorized in the heart of the DK-80; the Programming Unit. The Programming unit also controls the 50 factory programs (40 not programmable and 10 programmable) and the 50 or 100 external programs: 50 (programmable) on a RAM pack, or 100 (not programmable) on ROM pack. Thus the DK-80 can control up to 150 musical programs simultaneously; 50 internal ones plus 50 (on RAM) or (ROM) external ones which are recalled directly by the Programming Unit."

This song is completely made with the Ploytec 'πλ²' or 'Pi Lambda Squared' (or PL2) synthesizer. It's the smallest synthesizer in the world; it fits in my mouth! (and the word 'slip' in the title is PI Lambda Squared backwards).
I used it with the Behringer BCR2000 controller. I made a preset for it, which can be downloaded from http://www.alanlauris.com/pl2-bcr2000...

This is the first in a series of old recordings (and potentially very boring to watch videos) where I was messing around on various synths with the aid of an arpeggiator and recorded the results. It's perhaps just a 'niche' thing, but as always, I'm uploading them on an 'in case anyone is interested' basis, even if they only to serve as an example of the sounds that can be had from these instruments.

"Part 2 of my old arp-tweaking recordings, although this one is actually a step-sequencer pattern, but the same idea. I used the excellent Mutable Instruments Midipal for the pattern (it has an SH101-style step sequencer function). Of all the analogues I've had/used the Roland SH-1 is definitely my favourite in terms of sound, followed my the Micromoog.
This is an old recording and I can't remember what how/what I recorded it with, sorry. There's no video because I didn't have one at the time, and it'd be rather boring to watch anyway."

"The 3rd arp tweaking video, this time the Doepfer Dark Energy, using it's own built-in arpeggiator. Yet again, this is an old recording, which originally had some Micromoog parts accompanying it, but they were messy, so I re-recorded some of them with the Moog Slim Phatty, except the bass section near the beginning, which is the Slim Phatty panned to the left, and the Minitaur panned to the right.
No MIDI sequencers were harmed during the making of this video, nor were any insects. All critters, including mechanical ones, were filmed by me from my home using a Canon 650d, footage of synths captured with a hacked Lumix GH2."
