Blue Oyster Cult's (Bloom/Lanier) Moog Minimoog D Synthesizer SN 7554

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a very special instrument played by Eric Bloom and Allen Lanier of Blue Oyster Cult both on tour and on several Blue Oyster Cult albums. You can hear it on the lead of "Flaming Telepaths" on 1974's "Secret Treaties" as well as on many other tracks during the band's recording career. It toured with BOC for most of the '70s and was retired to storage. Recently it was completely gone over and refurbished at dBm Pro Audio/Music Services in NYC and is now in perfect working condition. (receipt of $1200.00+ available with purchase). The wood is 'as-was' with used patina. It's both a collectible and working keyboard. Letter of authenticity from Eric Bloom."

EMS Putney VCS3 Analog Synthesizer and Cricklewood Keyboard SN 321 & 2850

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"For sale is a one owner, all original, EMS Putney monophonic analog music synthesizer and Cricklewood keyboard.

This Putney is actually a VCS3a because it’s an early model, serial number 321.

Fascinated with the electronic music of the day, I purchased it and the keyboard new in 1969.

Here is what is right with it:

● Considering its age, It’s in very good condition. This package also includes the original patch pins, power cord, keyboard cable and vinyl cover.

● All the silver knob inserts are intact.

● The internal electronics are original. I have never had the synth or keyboard calibrated.

● I powered up the unit and checked the keyboard and all modules, matrix holes and pins, pots and verniers for basic functionality before having it professionally double boxed for shipment. In going through and listening to each module, I was reminded why I wanted the Putney in the first place. Its voice is unique and wonderful. Of course each oscillator’s pitch still drifts as much as when the unit was new. The keyboard needed to be "exercised" a bit before all its contacts functioned.

Here is what is wrong with it:

● Both reverb springs are in the reverb tank. One is still functioning, but the other is disconnected and lies loose.

● As is evident in the pictures, some of the wooden slots that hold the hardboard panels on the bottom and back of the main unit’s case have split off. I believe this happened while the synth was loaned to a friend. I never received a good explanation as to why. However, the panels still mount securely.

● Both internal speakers function, but one has a torn paper cone and sounds distorted (see photo)."

Underworld, Rez / Cowgirl live cover version

Published on Sep 18, 2014 Tony Horgan

"My live cover version of Rez and Cowgirl. No computer, just hardware synths, drum machines and their internal sequencers. Technical stuff follows...
The main riff is being played by the Korg Volca Keys. To get this pattern into the Keys I progammed the notes in Ableton Live and recorded them in four sections into the Volca Keys via MIDI, using four memory banks which I cycle through in this video.

The Korg KaossPad Quad is providing delay and reverb (too much of it!) via the mixer's effects loop. The mixer is an Alto ZMX122FX.

Drums are from the Roland TR-8 and the main bassline is from the MicroKORG. The MicroKORG is passed through the TR-8's auxiliary input and out through one of the two assignable outputs, together with the kick drum. The kick drum and MicroKORG bassline are then passed through an Alesis NanoCompressor and processed together. I'm not sure that's set up perfectly but the idea is to get the kick drum and the bassline to sit together.

The bassline is just one note played in an 8-step pattern using the MicroKORG's arpeggiator.

The second assignable output from the TR-8 is used to trigger the Arturia MicroBrute. The rimshot is sent to output no. 2 and fed to the MicroBrute's Gate In connection. This triggers the MicroBrute to play a note (or a rest) each time the rimshot sounds. The MicroBrute is in sequencer mode, playing a simple loop of a few notes progammed manually. Here the TR-8 is set up with a bit of swing, which also adds swing to the MicroBrute.

Out of shot there's a Korg Volca Bass, which is playing a two-note loop which is passed through a Danelctro FAB Distortion pedal and then a Zoom 1201 effects rack adding delay.

Finally there's the Novation MiniNova, which I'm attempting to use to disguise my voice :-) It was recorded on a Zoom H4n."

MINISTRY 'Same Old Madness' 1982 (unreleased track pre-'With Sympathy')

Uploaded on Feb 2, 2012

Moog Opus 3 for strings, Moog The Source for solo sounds. Vocals remind me of early Cure & the sequence reminds me of Spandau Ballet's To Cut a Long Story Short (see if you can ID the synth below).

This one in via El Estereo on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge, via Dangerous Minds here you'll find where you'll find an article on early Ministry. Cleopatra Records is coming out with an expanded reissue of Ministry’s Twelve Inch Singles 1981-1984 collection.

Video description:
"Same Old Madness - Unreleased single and video from 1982. Originally intended to be a single in the spring of 82. Video was shot before Al signed to Arista. I remastered the audio in attempting to get highest quality of this video out there. I got it dubbed onto VHS in 1997 by a really good video collector who had a access to a pristine copy, that i took special care of myself and rarely played. Needless to say, i knew how much of fucking gem this video is. From my personal VHS archive of rare Goth & Industrial music videos and live performances. Archived and circulated through years VHS tape trading and Video collecting."

ROLAND UNVEILS SH-2 PLUG-OUT SOFTWARE SYNTHESIZER Press Release & Details

Official press release including pics added to this post. According to the specs: Maximum Polyphony
1 voice. Curious if that's due to lack of processing power for polyphony, or the desire to make it like the original. Poly mode would be nice. One of the reasons why the Creamware Minimax & ProOdyssey are so desirable.

Header soldering using no wash low flux/rosincore solder. Quick demo

Published on Sep 18, 2014 LowGainElectronics

"Just showing a friend how to solder in headers with a rosincore or no wash based solder without using added flux. Nothing fancy. Typically on a board like this I would use a water Wash based solder and liquid flux. But for this example I wanted to show it can be done cleanly using no wash or rosin core. On this particular board there is a lot of copper you contend with so it is better to use flux and have the ability to clean the board after soldering is complete."

Mix Notes:

Please note that this entire mix has been created with Acid Pro 6. Lexicon Pantheon is the only reverb used.

The computer used is an ancient Dell Inspiron laptop (1 gig ram) running XP, with no fancy sound card.

The entire mix has been brightened and bass-boosted.

Several parts have been recorded twice and mixed together. Polyphonic parts were created layer by layer (W Carlos style).

Because of the limitations of the hardware, I had to do a lot of bouncing, in order to maintain recording at 24bit 48Khz, making the development of this demo particularly difficult."
