Freeing up the Roland JX-3P - MIDI to JX-3P Protocol Converter from Xonik Devices
The Roland JX-3P does not support editing of its parameters over MIDI by default. If you look at the back of the JX-3P, you will see MIDI ports and a Programmer port. The Programmer port was meant for the optional PG-200 programmer. Until now you either needed a PG-200, Mode Machines DT-200 clone of the PG-200, or an upgrade from Kiwitechnics to edit the JX-3P externally.
Xonik Devices wrote in to let us know they have documented the Roland PG-200 protocol and created a MIDI translator/converter for it. You can find the documentation here. They have also created a hardware device, the MPG-200, that handles the translation. This means you will be able to control the internal parameters on a stock JX-3P with MIDI.

"Around three years ago, in april 2012, I decoded the PG-200 protocol. Using a Saleae logic probe I took a closer look at what happened while using the PG-200, and built a device that converts MIDI CC messages into PG-200 commands. This device, the MPG-200, also receives and transmits MIDI note messages, making it possible to completely control the JX-3P using MIDI.
To my knowledge, at the time I started the project only two other devices existed that could do this - the KiwiTechnics JX-3P upgrade and Patch Editor and the Organix Midi upgrade kit. These both require extensive modification of the JX-3P. Later, Mode machines made a PG-200 clone called the DT-200. I have yet to see the PG-200 protocol fully documented, but I may have missed something as I have not searched the web lately.
As a tiny gift to the synth community in honor of my daughter's birth, I now release all the information I have gathered. This document is based on the data found in the JX-3P/PG-200 service manual as well as a lot of work done by myself. Feel free to use it in any way you see fit, but I would be really happy if you acknowledged my contribution."

Bass Station II & System-1 (SH-101 plug-out) (custom sounds)

"Get your free presets for BSII & SYS-1: www.albaecstasy.ro
NOTE: This is a duet, not a comparison. I'm tired to see all this analog vs digital fights. Making music is about creativity, no matter what the sound source it is. I myself started making music with analog gear, then passed to digital and VST and back to digital, VST (AU) and analog and nowadays even implementing with success the iPad apps."
It's Cs2x synth pad time!
Published on May 25, 2015 ChrisLody
"What better way to make up for a frustratingly busy bank holiday weekend spring cleaning the house than to make a few synth pads?
I've developed a bit of a soft spot for the Cs2x since i bought it, but at the same time it has some stupid flaws. The complete lack of a filter envelope intensity control anywhere on the panel is a pretty big flaw, though there is a work around by making assign knob 1 'FEGVelSens' which uses the velocity to control the filter EG amount. Also all the sounds are made up of preset AWM2 sounds and your edits alter the setting above or below the preset values. But it doesn't show the preset values on screen so there is a lot of trial and error involved.
On the plus side it has a pretty nice sounding analogue filter emulation and 64 voices of polyphony. With a bit of digging (quite a lot actually, and a few notes to remember where the good stuff is) its possible to find some nice bright waveforms to work with. The effects aren't to be sniffed at either with a reverb slot, a chorus slot and a vari slot which has a long list of choices with parameters to edit too. All the audio in this video is the Cs2x only with no external effects.
It has plenty of keyboard sounds like electric pianos and organs that are very usable, though the acoustic pianos don't feel right to me. I paid £90 for it so i reckon there a bit of a budget bargin."

PATCH NOTES -
DRUMS
Kick and snare from Mutable Instruments Peaks mixed into Mutable Instruments Frames working as a basic mixer. Hi Hat is the white noise output from a Frequency Central System X Sample & Hold + Noise module going into the Intellijel uVCA II with an envelope from the Erica Synths Polivoks EG.
BASS
Mutable Instruments Tides with shape modulation from the System X Sample and Hold and smoothness modulation from the SSF URA Sample & Hold B output.
CHORDS
This is the WTx4 chord mode on Mutable Instruments - Braids. Chord types are changing with an RYO VC Sequencer and the System X S&H modulates the wavetable Timbre.
SEQUENCING
Is done with 1 RYO VC Sequencer controlling pitch attenuated by an RYO Vertmix before going into an ADDAC 207 Quantizer. This goes to both Braids to change the root of the chords and also the bass from Tides. The second RYO VC Sequencer as mentioned above modulates the chord types. All clocks for modulation and sequencing comes from the ALM Busy Circuits Pamela's Workout. The rhythmic trigger for Braids internal envelopes modulating the internal VCA is also from Pamela's Workout in euclidean mode.
MIXING & PROCESSING
Frames mixes the 3 drums and chords and then goes into Streams in compressor mode for some gentle glueing. The bass goes into Streams and as sidechained in the bonus compressor mode against the kick. Frames output goes into one channel on the Erica Synths Fusion Series Tube Mixer. The bass comes into channel 2 and the Braids chords sound is split with a stackable and taken into a Doepfer A-199 Spring Reverb which is then brought into the third channel of the Tube Mixer before going to my soundcard."
