Lil' Fonky - Dynapolis: XL-7; MS-20 mini; Boomstar 4075; Dreadbox Erebus

Published on May 7, 2017 LilFonky

"Not sure what genre to call this; it's a short, shuffling 120 bpm track in a slowed-down but vaguely UK garage meets old-school electrofunk style.

I've been trying to build on the multi-cam idea in past videos so I bought some cheap mirrorless cameras and support gear and I'm doing a bit of b-roll of the gear in my studio as well. My hope is to document more of the production process in a way that A) is more interesting to watch and b) depicts what goes on during the sequencing and composition phase. I'm not sure if what I've done reveals or obscures my work flow, but it's fun playing with cameras and editing the footage together in any case.

Gear in use for this video includes:

E-MU XL-7
Studio Electronics Boomstar 4075
Korg MS-20 mini
Korg Electribe
Korg Z1
Korg Volca Sample
DSI TETR4
Roland MKS-50
Dreadbox Erebus

Recorded to several tracks in Reaper in two passes: one for the main arrangement, the second for the solo in the middle. Video edited in Reaper."

"For sale is an excellent condition Korg Trident MKI. This massive sounding synthesizer's physical condition is honestly the best I have seen. It is beautiful inside and out. Is the physical condition perfect?..of course not, but I stand beside this being the nicest example of a Trident I have seen. The most noticeable blemish to me is a small chip in one of the knobs near the joystick (pictured). The wooden cabinet which is usually beat up on these is in VERY nice shape. Functionally flawless. No scratchy pots, key triggering issues etc. Has the CHD MIDI kit installed."

The theme is the company's 'TR-909'! We adopted the color of 909. SH - 101 was released in 1982 and still still very popular analog synthesizer! EMS Vocoder 2000

"I have owned at one point or another almost every vintage vocoder ever made, including all the popular classics like the Roland SVC350, Roland VP330, EMS 1000, 2000, Sennheiser VSM201, Moog Vocoder, etc. To me the EMS 2000 is one of the best out of them all for creating pronounced and intelligible vocals while giving you the vocoding effect, though it can get quite creativity and warped on other settings as well. For a small box with only a few switches there's still loads of sounds to be had. There's nothing quite as classic as a good vintage vocoder, every collector or home studio needs to have at least one. Don't miss out!"

Sequential Circuits MultiTrak Vintage Polyphonic Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Sequential Circuits MultiTrak is an underrated and somewhat rare analog synth. It has an onboard arpeggiator and sequencer as well as MIDI. The unit is in very good condition with the exception of some scratches on the bottom. This is a great sounding synth and everything works as it should.

The internal lithium battery that maintains the patches was replaced just a couple of weeks ago and I restored the patches I had using the tape interface. I couldn't find a factory patch WAV online, but you can find MIDI SysEx dumps online and the Owner's Manual contains settings for the original factory sounds. "

Note, if your Multi-Trak continues to lose it's patches over time, it likely needs the regulator fix. I believe all original Multi-Traks suffered from this design flaw.

"Vintage Roland SH-1000 analogue synthesiser with bass pedal

Dating from around 1973.

Rolands first Synthesiser!

In good condition for its age and as far as I can tell working as it should. The output is a little noisy but not bad considering its 45 years old!

This one has been modified and comes with a working bass pedal that can be attached

The silver top to one of the knobs is missing

Complete with flight case sheet music stand and some original patch sheets some unused!"

"Synth section fully working aside from the VCO/ LFO amount slider, so unable to modulate VCO for vibrato effects.

Sequencer section is working with issues!

If you move the sliders around while a sequence is running (as I'm sure most people would) it will stop, if you press Start again it will continue.

The switches & certain of the sliders are more prone to this than the others.

So you can use as is for SH101 sounds, or can run sequences so long as you don't want to tweak them!

Selling as 'parts or not working' as messing with the sliders while running the sequencer is such a major part of using an MC202.. but it is working otherwise!

Sometimes, the sequence won't begin in the first place (Start button inoperative) though it has recorded & can be edited.

I don't think it's the button pads or contacts, as I had these working with the top off, more likely a hairline trace or contact sensitive enough to respond to finger pressure, perhaps the flexing of the case and/ or circuit board? Never any problems playing the synth & manipulating the sliders from the front panel.

Complete with original box (tatty) & manual."

Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter Rev.4, Alesis IO Dock II-iPad

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter Analog Synth, Alesis IO Dock II, and iPad.
*Please note that my photos show a lot of reflections on the shiny surfaces of the Alesis IO Dock and the iPad. If you look at the various pictures you will see that those are not scratches and are actually reflections of my record collection and the overhead lighting.

My MKS-80 is in great condition and sounds big and beautiful. It does have some light scratches and some rack marks, but nothing major. The MKS-80 Super Jupiter is a classic analog 8 voice polyphonic synth and is capable of making anything from wall shaking bass to beautiful sweet pads.

I am also including my Alesis IO Dock II and my iPad (3rd Gen with WiFi and Cellular conectivity).
I have the Lemur MKS-80 editor installed on the iPad (as seen in my photos). It allows you to easily edit your MKS-80 patches in realtime. With this setup you can sequence the MKS-80 using iPad sequencers or connect it to your computer via USB and sequence it with your DAW. This setup is really nice. I included a photo with some text overlay showing how to setup the DAW connectivity. It's pretty easy.

You will also receive a M-64C Memory Cartridge, the original manual for the MKS-80 and the manual for the Alesis IO Dock II.

This gear has been kept in my smoke free home studio, so it will arrive smelling clean."

Dreadbox Erebus Noodling

Published on May 7, 2017 jarsamo

"Dreadbox Erebus is an analog synthesizer that sounds actually very fat. I think the sound is somewhat moogish. It seems quite a simple machine at first but actually it's quite versatile with the patchability / modular compaibility.

The sound is dry - the only effect used is the Erebus' own delay.

I played the Erebus with Arturia Keystep and it's mighty arpeggiator.

P.S. Sorry about the picture quality, I filmed it with a potato ;)"

Social Entropy Engine - Arpeggiator, Pattern Direction and Randomisation [using MB33 Retro]

Published on May 7, 2017 Acid Alex

"Here's a demo of the Engine MIDI Sequencers Arpeggiator, Pattern Direction and Randomisation functions. I'm using it with the excellent MB33 Retro Bassline synth.

Here I use the arp to create a pattern with the chosen three notes. I then choose the number of octaves. Once I'm happy I record the notes into the step sequencer so that I can add accents and slides. Then I have a play with pattern direction (Forward, backward, pendulum, random and probability) and various pattern lengths. At the end I used the Engines randomisation function to create a few new patterns using my chosen notes and transposition."

Proof-of-concept tap-tempo in Quadraturia app in O&C

Published on May 7, 2017 Tim Churches

"Still more work to do, but tap-tempo basically works in Quadraturia. Also added frequency multipliers as well as frequency dividers for channels B, C and D with respect to the master frequency of channel A. The frequency multiplication and division works with tap tempo as well. In this video, the frequency multiplier set to 8 initially, so there are 8 LFO cycles between each tap input. In the second half, the multiplication fact is adjusted. Anyway, the point is that it is adaptively adjusting the frequency to match the rhythm of taps (generated by a Mutable Grids)."
