Microvolt 3900 Through Thyme Delay

Published on Jun 18, 2018 Perfect Circuit Audio

"We wanted to test out the new Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 and the Bastl Thyme, so we figured we should make a video with both of them together. The Microvolt 3900 is a semi-modular synthesizer with a single oscillator, wavefolder, filter and VCA with dynamic response, as well as an LFO, function generator and ADSR for modulation. The Bastl Thyme is a digital delay which isn't a tape emulation, but is modeled after a tape delay, a kind of digital tape. The Thyme also has "robots" which can modulate many of the settings on the machine.

Thyme available here: https://www.perfectcircuitaudio.com/b...

Oberheim Matrix-12 Synthesizer Percussion Demo

Published on Jun 18, 2018 gstormelectro

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c.2018

OMG that Snare sounds familiar. No drum machines or samplers were used in this demo. No, today you're getting a full dose of Oberheim Matrix-12 percussion sounds. Watch as I corral a group of freshly programmed percussion sounds together using MIDI assignments in multi-mode. The Beatstep Pro is in full trigger control. Muting tracks is done on the M12 channel volume page. Recorded direct to Tascam DR-05 via Mackie mixer. No effects mucking about whatsoever. I should be making the patches available sometime soon. Thanks for watching!"

Moog DFAM does Microtonal: "Spinning with Sophie Germain" (featuring small man straddling a cactus)

Published on Jun 18, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Right. The rulebook states you have to feature a houseplant in a synth vid in order to be a real synth player. So I featured a small wooden man straddling a cactus whilst playing a Strat.

I think this means I'm now officially a real synth player. Which means I may get gigs at synth venues.

Who knows. I may land a gig at Moogfest next year. Actually, wait: probably not, given I haven't lopped my man bits off. Times are tough and all - and I'm all for innovation and creativity - but having to chop off one's knob to secure a gig is a step too far, even for a Scotsman.

Moog's commitment to the castration policy can even be seen in the DFAM, where if you want to operate it properly you have to stick your own knobs on it.

To serious theoretical matters:

Sophie Germain was a mathematician known for 'Sophie Germain Primes'. These are primes where the form 2p + 1 is also prime.

Take the number 7. (7 x 2) + 1 = 15, which is not prime. Therefore 7 is not a Sophie Germain prime.

11, however, is a Sophie Germain prime ((11 x 2) + 1 = 23, which is prime).

The frequencies of this sequence are all Sophie Germain primes. None of the notes are conventional pitches. The entire sequence is microtonal.

Here is a breakdown of the step sequence (steps 1-8 respectively):

491 Hz
419 Hz
359 Hz
293 Hz
251 Hz
191 Hz
173 Hz
131 Hz

Very interesting sound. I split/doubled the signal, with signal 2 sent through a ring modulator. Hence the odd sound underneath.

Quite often, microtonal music has the effect of sounding very 'metallic'. I'd say this work is no exception.

All best
Kris"

Process your sounds with CA Filter on the Organelle! CA Filter divides the audio input into 15 bands that can be turned on or off individually with generative Cellular Automata. This algorithm acts as a sequencer for your filter, with 256 sequences, or 'rules' to choose from. Watch as new generations are made on the Organelle screen. Stop the Cellular Automata and turn the bands on or off manually with the Organelle keyboard (keys 1-15). Sync with other MIDI instruments for quantized filter stepping."

Minimoog 2018 - sound experiments

Published on Jun 18, 2018 studentsmusic

"Of course the re-issued Model d has some mods compared to the 70s original and allows some synth experiments. Especially the LFO (OSC3) the modmatrix using osc3,noise, filter eg, lfo amazed me, allowing also double FM, the lfo reaching into ultra low now what makes the whole machine more complex than the original. Here i improvise with these features - take your time and listen to the variability of this at first sight clear to understand synth."

"Amatsonia is a Arduino based synth made with the String synth program and schematics written by Jan Östman. You can find it here: http://blog.dspsynth.eu/how-to-build-...

I built the the synth fro my son, becoause he wanted a synth of his own. He designed the synth. I took a liberty on adding a snake to the graphics. He likes snakes.

There is an filter with lowpass, hipass and bandpass options. Also a delay and a LFO. The LFO controls the filters cut of frequency. The joystick can control the LFO speed and and the delay time.

This mainly a sound demo video. Not much actual video on it.

Hope you enjoy it."

The “Little Green NAND” synth

Published on Jun 18, 2018 Mike Sisk

"This is a small noise making synth I built from a Synthrotek 'NAND Synth' PCB and the head from a Toy Story 'Little Green Men' alien toy. Main pitch is controlled by the alien’s antenna. Knobs in each ear control the two oscillators with switches to shut each on or off independently. LED installed in each eye, red in the center for power and green on the sides to show the rate of each oscillator. Power switch and volume control on back with audio output on the nose. “Dive bomb” button and switch that select between two large capacitors which give a winding down sound as unit slowly loses power. Oscillator 2 switch selects a light depended resistor attached to the back of the oscillator 1 LED which in turn causes both to be controlled from oscillator 1 knob. Power starve knob that limits the power from the battery and causes a similar effect to the dive bomb but more drawn out. And lastly on the back of the head there is a CV input and switch that select between battery power or external CV. All of this is base around the 4093 IC on a PCB from synthrotek."

Orbit 9090 - Is a 90's dance synth still good for modern sounds ?

Published on Jun 17, 2018 100 Things I Do

"The Orbit is another one of those interesting Romplers from the late 90's early 2000's. I actually had one of these at the time but mostly used it for the inbuilt drum sounds. Like the DX-7 Programming can be a little like trying to paint the house through the mail box (Joke for the Brits I guess). It uses 1-2 synth samples to make up each of the presets and you can use the unique Z-Plane filters to morph and manipulate the sound. The Orbit was aimed at the Dance\DJ market at the time.. but with some careful programming you can get some very.... very nice ambient soundscapes from it!"

Erica Synths new Techno System live performance @Schneidersladen June 28

That's one big modular.

via Stromkult

"On Thursday 28th of June at 6pm we will start an evening full of new experiences and opportunities to learn new things!

We start at 6pm with an introduction to modular synthesis that is suitable for beginners and for all those who are curious about sound synthesis. Everyone is welcome to join us, no previous knowledge required!

At 7pm we are presenting an intense evening with a techno machine at the center of attention. Erica Synths will be showing what can be done with a modular synthesizer especially designed and engineered to be a performance oriented techno machine. Lots of artists perform with not much more than a modular synthesizer these days and it has proven to be an effective way of bringing live music to clubs and festivals. We will also talk about the philosophy of Erica Synths and where their motivation to make musical instruments comes from.

As we have limited capacity for this workshop please send an e-Mail to Timm to save your space for one or both workshops – we have to limit this event to 30 people. Participation is free-of-charge as always!"

New Elektron Vintage Keys Sound Pack

"Remember when you were 9, and laying on the couch, desperately trying not to fall asleep so you could catch the end of that weird sci-fi flick your parents let you stay up to watch, but failing miserably. Slowly fading into a surreal hypnagogic hallucination, colors blurring together, disjointed lines of dialog bouncing around your head, sounds getting more and more distant.

The skilled hands of Romanian brothers Dual Shaman expertly recaptures that feeling in these 128 patches for Analog Four (and Keys of course). Vintage Keys draws inspiration from the cyber-funk of Adrian Enescu, schmaltzy balladeer Florin Bogardo, obscure space-opera soundtracks and filters it through a foggy Badalamentiesque sense of being lost in Dreamtime.

This Sound Pack is a digital item. Detailed instructions on how to download the Sound Pack will be provided via email upon purchase.

Please note this Sound Pack was designed for Analog Four MKII. It is compatible with Analog Four MKI and Analog Keys but be advised that there may be slight differences in sound.
