Happy Nerding 3x VCA 2/2: Modulation Depth, Tremolo, & Auto-Pan

Published on Mar 24, 2019 Learning Modular

"This second of two movies on the Happy Nerding 3x VCA. It focuses on using VCAs to control modulation depth, including filter wah, FM, tremolo, and auto-panning. The 3x VCA’s bipolar attenuators and offset controls (as well as internal mixing) makes it easier to patch these applications without the need for external CV utility mixers. The video breaks down like this:

Jakob Haq: Can MOOG convince me to get into MODULAR Synths? | haQ attaQ #TSR19

Published on Mar 24, 2019 Jakob Haq

"Jim from MOOG Music Inc brought a Mother-32 and a DFAM with him to our studio session during the Thomann Synth Reactor 2019 event. Ever wondered why you can’t find any videos on my channel featuring MODULAR synthesizer that requires patching through cable wiring? Go ahead and search my 700 videos and you’ll quickly realise that I haven’t made any videos on Modular synths requiring virtual cable patching either (well there’s is one, but it’s not about a synth per see). I simply do not like the wiring-like workflow that these types of synths call for. Now, you have to see this one though because Jim here is tasked with ... changing my mind. Can he do it?

"Very quick demo of the Solton ARRANGER PLUS.
Forgive the poor audio quality and performance of this video. It is solely intended to demonstrate the unit is running fine and to get you an idea of what you can achieve with this unit."

via this auction

"Here is a vintage 80s arranger. Small brother of the cult SOLTON PROGRAMMER 24 / 24S arranger. They share the same audio engine but this one lacks themore advanced editing possibilities. To those who are into Italo Disco music they know these machine rule !

Consisting of a rhythm unit (digital 8bit PCM samples very like the LinnDrum, Oberheim DMX, Sequential Circuits Drumtraks etc) and a analog synth engine made of: 1 bass sound, 2 "chords" tracks, 1 "solo" track and 1 organ track.

I just recently cleaned and serviced it. It works perfectly. I replaced the dead battery with a new one, and used a battery holder instead of the original solder-on type.

Condition est quite good. Front plate paint does show some scuffs and scratches and fainted part but as a whole it does look very nice. See pictures and judge for yourself.

The keyboard comes with its rare original manual (italian, english, french and german).

I made a video of this very same unit, to prove its working condition and get you some idea about the possibilities of the keyboard."

AJHSynth-Gemini 2412 demo/Minimod oscillators/filters and more!!!

Published on Mar 24, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Hi Guys.
This time I have an extensive demo showing the filter Gemini 2412 (no talking) from AJHSynth !
in the first part, up to 1:50, you have two Minimod oscillators (Vintage Transistor Core VCO) - they are first with a lower input level, later with a high level that adds some grain in the Discrete Cascade VCA and, of course, a typical LP, BP, HP filter, plus of course adding resonance. I think wonderfully shows how this filter behaves on the oscillator.
from 1:50 to 4:15 is used Dual mode for sequences with the addition of Reverb Black Hole DSP from Erica Synths.
in dual I wanted to show a lot of filter settings, that's why it takes quite a long time, and as it alternately filters itself with the use of LFO, there is a separate output for Dual D-Out. last part is a sequence with filtering also dual but without reverb.
The Gemini 2412 filter is based on the iconic SEM so this character really can bite sounds.
More specifically, the Gemini 2412 is Two completely independent Vintage SEM filters, with a central mixing bus for frequency and frequency control voltages that allow the connection of two VCFs in serial and parallel modes, and VCF1 can be inverted against VCF2. So two VCFs can be combined to act like a SEM 24dB filter, vocal formation filter and much more!
Each of the two filters is based on a SEM vintage filter, with FET transistors, and has a Low Pass, Band Pass and High Pass outputs, and a useful Vary output that can be faded from LP to Notch on HP. All outputs can be used simultaneously.
Added some exciting additional features not available in the original SEM filter, including CV resonance contolance, VCF core override and full self-oscillation!
Each VCF1 and VCF2 has a four-way switch for selecting LP, BP, HP or VARY for the mixing bus, it is also available as an additional individual output."

GOODBYE VOLCA MODULAR // Preview of Patches 4, 5, 6,

Published on Mar 24, 2019 LESINDES

"Time to say GOODBYE to KORG VOLCA MODULAR.
Soundtrack of footage for unreleased PACTHES 4, 5, 6.
An inspiring machine with its drawbacks (PATCH DESCRIPTION in the bottom):
Visit me also on Facebook: Les Indes!
The MODULAR is a synthesizer with a potential but also with a lot of NOs, unfortunately. I really like the idea of it but it has:
1. unlike all the other Volcas NO Midi input
2. NO seperate gate input -- combined CV/Gate in so special stereo mini jack to 2 mono mini jacks cable needed
3. LPG is very low, only half as loud as LPG1, or my Volca is broken?!
4. Gate or CV output of keyboard and sequencer only in these fiddle sockets.
5. Cables with the soft easily bendable ends feel and are very fiddly. The raw cable ends slide easily out of the sockets even though you only gently touch the cables!
6. The black pot underbeath in front of both Cutoff pots should be the control voltage patched in sockets A + B but even if it is turned fully conterclockwise (= minimum) there is still CV being let out. I don't know if there is a work around for that or if my MODULAR is part of faulty batch??!
From min. 5 - 8 it is clock input is patched as source
by mistake but there is still a lot of entertaining tweaking
;-)

Patch is basically this:
Clock Div in WOGGLE 1 + 2
WOGGLE 1 in C
WOGGLE 2 in Space
Function 2 cycled in B
OSC in A
a+bxc/a-bxc in MOD/FOLD/RATIO"

J.S.Bach - Little Fugue in G minor - Played on a Realistic MG-1 by Moog Music

Published on Mar 24, 2019 MrCaliforniaD

"The MG-1 was built by Moog for Realistic (Radio Shack), and was designed specifically for the home market. Very basic and easy to use, this is a nice cheap way to get your hands on Moog sounds!

The MG-1 is a 2-VCO monophonic/polyphonic analog synth with a genuine 24dB/oct Moog filter, however the overall sound is thin. On the MG-1, the VCOs are referred to as 'Tone Generators'. It can produce sawtooth, square and pulse waveforms, and the oscillators are detunable and syncable. A simple ASR (attack, sustain, release) envelope called 'Contour' can be applied to both the amp and the filter. The LFO section provides triangle or square wave patterns as well as Sample-and-Hold. Additionally there is a simple Ring-Mod effect called 'Bell'.

Feel free to ask any questions."

SPIEL | performance for prepared mouth

SPIEL | performance for prepared mouth from Peter van Haaften on Vimeo.

Created in Pure Data

PETER VAN HAAFTEN | MICHAEL MONTANARO

Performed by Nien Tzu Weng

Spiel is an in-situ performance for prepared mouth.

While absorbed in conversation you notice a stranger approaching. With a curious instrument affixed to their face the visitor leans in, and listens. The mouth opens, patterns of rhythm and sound emanate from within: voices recognizable as your own.

Spun out of focus, words reveal their ingrained subtleties as the collector of conversation captures the sentence but not the sentiment. Vocal exchanges are recalled and reflected. Voices are transformed by physical formant inflections, while acoustic hallucinations seem to reference what might have been said.

An étude on hearing lips and seeing voices, the performer’s mechanically augmented vocal tract reshapes and filters conversational spectra into new modes of mis-communication. Spiel physically unravels the tenuous synesthetic relationship between what is seen, heard and understood.

Published on Mar 24, 2019 junklight

"been learning the Iteritas and working on getting better results with Rene. I'm also finding the Teletype has really unlocked a lot of things for me - much easier to script big changes across the patch - here it is letting me slow the sequence down and simultaneously increase attack on the envelope.

Ended up in quite a prog-tastic place :-) there would have been more going on in the patch but I ran out of long patch cables :-( ordering some more."

Korg Poly-800 - Stringy padded things (some more patches/presets)

Published on Mar 24, 2019 DreamsOfWires

"I was briefly in possession of another Korg Poly-800 this month, which I only had time to use once, but I created a bunch of mostly string-type sounds, as I was originally aiming to re-record a couple of old uploads (links below):
https://youtu.be/zTeToEsccEE
https://youtu.be/utquF2PfV6o
https://youtu.be/lgMzxnj0ajM

The Poly-800 was a strange synthesizer; whilst being an 8-voice polyphonic synth (or 4 voices with 2 oscillators per voice) it only had one analog filter shared across all voices, which was limiting, but could produce some interesting musical results.

Enable subtitles/captions for comments/info about some of the patches.

I'm not sure how much longer I can continue to create content for this channel due to financial circumstances. I've invested a lot of money into the equipment, camera gear, and even a computer to make it possible, for which I've got into a lot of debt. I enjoy doing it, but it has to be financially viable, and though I create these videos for free, my ambition was to make it pay for itself somehow, at least partially, via music sales, Patreon, or manufacturer sponsorship, but after almost 10 years that hasn't happened and my views and subscription rate is dwindling. In the meantime, if you can help share knowledge of my channel and music to others it would be greatly appreciated. As always though, thank you so much for your comments and encouragement over these past years - I cannot stress enough how much it has meant to me.

"MARSH UDS". It is a powerfull 6 channel analog drum synthesizer, produced in the USSR in 1980s. It has 6 identical channels (which can be used & edited freely). On every channel you can change: trigger signal sensitivity, base tone pitch, HF or LF, glissando, noise/tone ballance, noise decay, resonance, channel's volume. Each channel has trigger Input on a standart 1/4 mono Jack for 6 pads. It can be triggered from any drum pads like classic Simmons or modern Roland\Yamaha or any audio source - line outs of the drum machine or soundcard or CV Gate etc. The module has two stereo Outputs (1/4 Jack) ballanced & unballanced and one mono Headphone Output (1/4 Jack). This is an armoured antitank piece of gear and the sound it produces is very unique! Can synthesize huge pallete of sounds - from modern punchy BD & SD to classic 808 or 909 subs or claps e.t.c..

ROLAND P/V Synth SPV-355 - Pitch-to-Voltage Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The SPV-355 is a non keyboard synthesizer using a superior pitch to voltage converter for never-before control stability and accuracy. Now a guitarist or wind instrument player, or even a vocalist can use their instrument to control a synthesizer. The SPV-355 can also be used as a synthesizer expander module for another analog synthesizer.

FEATURES

• Four sound sources can be freely mixed: Two VCO's, suboscillator, and the direct (original) sound.

• VCO-2 can be set tor two independent tunings and switched back and forth remotely with a foot switch.

• The enevelope follower can be used to produce many delicate nuances of sound.

• Input and output connections are easy because the input and output levels are the same.

• Most of the important functions can be remote controlled, a feature very important in live performance.

• Provision for external CV (1V/oct) and gate pulse inputs for control of the SPV-355 from an external source such as a sequencer or even a synthesizer keyboard controller."

Mint condition analogy monophonic synthesizer from Tom Carpenter's Analogue Solutions. Looks, features and sound resemble the good ol' Oberheim SEM module. It sounds great, warm, round, living and just beautiful. The Telemark is not to be seen as a pure SEM clone as its features and functions go beyond the original. Besides the two VCOs with modulation and the classic 12dB SEM multimode filter you´ll find an additional LFO, noise generator and extended modulation possibilities. The Telemark´s filter can self-oscillate! Midi and cv patch points make integration with a midi setup, your modular system and DAW easy. KORG volca drum: Building a first drum kit

Published on Mar 24, 2019 IAmTheSwordmaster1

"In this clip I'm fooling around with the KORG volca drum digital percussion synthesizer, trying to create a first new drum / percussion kit from scratch. This little drum synth is quite deep with its 6 parts / 2 layer architecture with a combination of virtual analog synthesis, digital effects and a physical modeling resonator as master effect. Since the synthesizer part in this unit is so sophisticated, it lets you create not only drum and percussion sounds but even tonal and fx sounds as well.
