Game of Thrones theme performed on the Baloran the River synthesizer

Published on Apr 21, 2019 Sean Christopher Evoking Emotion with Synthesizers

"I recreated the awesome theme to HBO's epic series Game of Thrones using the Baloran The River synthesizer, which was multi-tracked in Cubase 10. The music for the series was composed by the very talented Ramin Djawadi...

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The series premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and will conclude with its eighth season."

"Psycox Syncussion SY1M - A clone of the much loved Pearl Syncussion Drum Synth

Recently completed build of the this amazing drum/percussion synthesizer. I bought 2 kits and will be keeping one as the sound is amazing.

This model includes MIDI as well as CV/Gate to interface with external gear.

I have built many synth kits and eurorack modules over the last 4 years and have used the best components for this kit, so buy with confidence. I also offer a 1 year warranty on my DIY builds so if there are any issues you can send it back to me for a fix.

Here is more info from the kits manufacturer:

'The Syncussion SY-1M kit is a faithful reproduction of an extremely versatile drum synthesizer from the late 1970's. With 6 Oscillator Modes per channel it is capable of a wide range of sounds, from the classic 70's disco "peeoww" to tight bells, thunderous Kick drums and Gnarly Bass sounds. Whilst retaining the original CV and Trigger inputs, the addition of per channel MIDI controlled Triggering, Pitch and Decay greatly expands the possibilities. The kit contains 2 Printed Circuit Boards, a Powder Coated and Screen Printed Steel Case, 16 Slide potentiometers, 16 Slider Caps, 8x BCM857 Dual Matched Transistors, 47uH RF Choke (necessary for the power supply filter) and a pre-programmed ATMEGA328.'"

Very Good condition, fully functional. Some marks and signs of use (switches are a bit wiggly). Rare and Cool device.

The original design only included one light (red), but I added a second light (yellow), so the bug could see better!"

Yorick Tech LOW FREQUENCY EXPANDER for OB-6 or Prophet 6 Manual

Text follows:

"LOW FREQUENCY EXPANDER For OB-6 or Prophet 6 By Yorick Tech

Introduction

Thanks for buying this Low Frequency Expander (LFE). I bought my OB-6 in February 2019 and loved the sound and build quality but quickly found it really lacked modulation possibilities. It’s got just one LFO, which is global (affects all 6 voices together), and lets you share the filter envelope to modulate a limited number of destinations. You can also use VCO 2 as a polyphonic (per-voice) LFO, but you lose a precious VCO by doing this. What I needed was a way of adding a number of extra modulators and to be able to route them to a lot more destinations. So I developed the Low Frequency Expander!

How the Escape From New York music was made (feat. Alan Howarth)

Published on Apr 20, 2019 Alex Ball

Another great bit of synth history from Alex Ball who brought us Land of the Rising Sound | A Roland Retrospective.

"In 1981, John Carpenter and Alan Howarth worked on their first film score together; Escape from New York. This was the genesis of a fruitful decade of collaboration.

The film has gone on to become a cult-classic, but the score has taken on a life of its own and had great influence upon many musicians.

I was planning to break down how some of the cues were made and decided to try to contact Alan Howarth to ask him some questions. Amazingly, he responded and was gracious enough to be interviewed for this film.

A rare treat, we hear from the horses mouth how the whole collaboration came about, how the music was composed, what equipment was used and how on earth they sync'd things up in a pre-digital world.

Alan is still active and working on new scores and new technology, so we also get to hear what he's up to in 2019 and even get a peak at his current studio where some gear from Escape from New York still resides.

Massive thanks to Alan and thank you for watching."

The System - You Are In My System (Minimoog Bass Playalong)

Published on Apr 20, 2019 csmcrckrs

"A reconstruction of one of The System's most popular tracks ... with an extremely busy bassline only David Frank could have executed this flawlessly (played or programmed though? I'll have to admit that it took me at least 30 takes before I got it reasonably right, and even then I had to do quite a bit of editing in Ableton Live). This time I nailed the sound pretty well imo.

Klangbau Köln Eurorack: Analog FM, Filter Pings & Wavetable Synth Sounds #TTNM

Published on Apr 21, 2019 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"In this video I demonstrate a patch combining analog FM, filter pings and digital wavetable oscillator sounds.

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

Klangbau Köln Website:
https://xn--klangbaukln-zfb.de/

Patch Notes:
The patch is a combination of four sounds, mixed together and sent through a VCA and audio effects.

1. XR-VCO (big version) sine wave output with added linear frequency modulation from the Variable qVCF's LP output in self-oscillation
2. Variable qVCF BP output in self-oscillation
3. Twin Peak Filter Pings modulated by the Wavetable VCDO audio output
4. Wavetable VCDO audio

All sounds are mixed with a Doepfer A-138 exp. audio mixer and sent into the Klangbau Waveshaper module, although only to use its clean (non-waveshaping) VCA, modulated by the Klangbau ADSR envelope.

The ADSR is trigger by the Pulse 2 output of Klangbau's Rob Hordijk Benjolin, which is sometimes FM'ed by its own chaotic Rungler CV.

The Pulse 2 output also triggers the digital version of the Klangbau Logistic Equation (Logistische Gleichung), which generates chaotic pitch CV for the XR-VCO, qCF and Wavetable VCDO and also pings the Twin Peak Filter's audio input. The CV is also used to modulate the Wavetable DCO's waveform choice.

After the VCA, the audio runs through the Synthrotek EKO Delay, which is modulated by the Benjolin's Rungler, and then through the Klangbau Köln Spring Reverb."

"The AKAI S612 was one of Akai's first samplers. It was released in 1895 and it has a super gritty, lo-fi sound which we thought was pretty awesome when we were testing this unit with some samples taken from Sun Ra. This simple and easy to use unit features MIDI, 12-bit sampling from 4 to 32kHz, loop, 8 seconds of sampling time, truncate, overdub, a continuous variable lo-pass filter and an LFO for modulating."

Knas Ekdahl Moisturizer

"The Ekdahl Moisturizer is an innovative spring reverb where the springs are exposed so they can be played/hit/fiddled with. As well as being capable of creating sound in itself, you can of course also play sound through the springs like a regular spring reverb - this makes for happy-fun-time finger-modulation of the reverb on whatever audio that's going through it.

On top of this there's an analog multimode filter that can be used to attenuate or exaggerate certain frequencies in the sound, this is real handy while playing the springs as you can - for instance - cut all the highs and just make thunderous doomy sounds or do the opposite; cut all the lows and make that ear piercing high frequency special love.

Also, it incorporates an LFO that's internally routable to the filter and that also has some external routing-stuff. The Ekdahl Moisturizer has tons of CV / Expression pedal options on the back for even more hilarious moments. The Moisturizer is a mono unit.

The Ekdahl Moisturizer contains exactly:

Preamp (up to 10 times gain)
Reverb / Preamp wet/dry crossfader (Knob & CV/EP controllable)
State variable filter width
Lowpass/Bandpass/Highpass seamless crossover (Knob, CV/EP & LFO controllable)
Cutoff (Knob, CV/EP & LFO controllable)
Resonance (WITHOUT resonance limiter)
LFO Speed control (Knob & CV/EP controllable)
Square / Triangle crossover
External output with output amplitude knob Filter / No filter wet/dry crossfader (Knob & CV/EP controllable)"

nonlinearcircuits Feague QUO VCF

Published on Apr 21, 2019 Ze Ka

Published on Nov 18, 2016 cirtcele

Note this module is from 2016.

"The Feague is a 4 pole VCF and quadrature oscillator with 0, 90, 180 & 270 degree outputs. It is based on the design in electronotes 41.

It features a lo/hi switch to run it at audio rates or LFO rates, plus a nonlinear Q pot which makes for interesting behaviour when using as a VCF.

When using as a QUO, the nonlinQ pot is used to increase the amplitude of the output signal, which is known to shrink somewhat at low frequencies in these kind of oscillators.

Specs

HP: 10

Inputs

SIGNAL: audio input
CV: for controlling cutoff in VCF or frequence in LFO/VCO
SYNC: sync in/freeze/hold control
1V/OCT: for controlling cutoff in VCF or frequence in LFO/VCO

Outputs

Each ouputs are 90 degrees in out of phase : 0, 90, 190 and 270.

In VCF, the two outputs closest to the side edge of the panel are low-pass outputs, and the other two are band-pass."

Podcast 273: Dan Goldstein (Cherry Audio)

Published on Apr 21, 2019 20Objects

"Dan Goldstein has been living his dream for 20 years. He started off with Sonic Foundry - back in the golden days - creating the future of audio software from scratch. He went on to be a main developer of Mixcraft, and has recently been involved in the release of Cherry Audio's Voltage Modular synth software. It's a powerhouse, and you can tell that Dan is really excited about it.

We took the opportunity to roll through some of his history, and I learned a lot about Sonic Foundry's world. But I also got a chance to see the trajectory of a guy - in Dan - that knew what he loved, and spent a lot of effort pursuing it. You hear it in his voice; despite the fact that he's been doing it for 20 years, he sounds as excited as a teen with his first car.

It was cool to talk to Dan about history, but also about his current work on Voltage Modular. If you are interested in playing around with a new kind of virtual modular, you should check it out - it's breaking some new ground, and is a blast to play with. You can check it out at https://cherryaudio.com/

Enjoy!"
