"What if the BBC Radiophonic Workshop had to score a horror movie only using and Arp2600"

Published on Jan 11, 2020 Analog Synthesizer Patch Tutorials

Hit the play button. For some reason the YouTube embed code isn't showing the preview image although the video is there.

"This patch was designed to show off the Arp2600's Electronic Switch and voltage processors. The voltage processors are simply being used to invert control voltages and the switch us being used to create different rhythms form one gate - Kind of a sequencer ratcheting effect.

I invert one of the Sample and Hold signals inside the Ring Modulation. I do this a lot. It creates unexpected variations especially if you don't invert fully.

I was watching a creepy vintage Dr Who on BBC while I was creating the patch and I was trying to create something I'd hear in the background as Tom Baker tries to avoid Davros and destroy all the Daleks. But ultimately it sounded like a 70's horror backdrop to me. Thus the title."

And the patch sheet:

Some Micromonsta synthesizer patches

Published on Jan 11, 2020 Ian R

"A badly played (please excuse my fumbling and keyboard skills) preview of some of the patches from my Micromonsta banks, you can download them
here:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1AJ3...

Some are better/more useful than others but maybe a good starting point for new sounds. These are a mixed bag of Bass and pad sounds mostly. Enjoy! And if you have any problems loading them let me know, this is my first time messing with SysEx files."

Korg DW8000 - A Classic 1985 Hybrid Digital+Analog Synth - Demo and Review

Published on Jan 11, 2020 Extralife

"A demo and review of the Korg DW8000, a hybrid polysynth from 1987. It combines sampled-wave DCOs with analog filters and unique six-stage envelopes for a stunningly capable and versatile keyboard synth that remains highly usable today. Its somewhat clunky interface is improved a great deal by the addition of a Stereoping controller. In this video I share some of my favorite patches and features as well as my thoughts on how this synth compares to the others today."

Happy Nerding FX AID Firmware Update

Published on Jan 11, 2020 Happy Nerding

"Entering firmware update mode: press and hold both buttons for 10 seconds. Two inner leds of the upper row will start to blink indicating the readiness for update. Play firmware file to the CV input to update the effects. In case some error occurs – two outer leds of the upper row will be blinking. Just press any button to reset this error indication and repeat playing of the firmware.
Line level signal amplitude is expected on the CV input for firmware update. So if you get error blinking, then try lowering the level."

Sonicware LIVEN 8bit Warps on Kickstarter

Playlist:
LIVEN 8bit warps Intro
Synth engine demo ( WARP, ATTACK, MORPH, FM )
LIVEN 8bit warps x DRUMBRUTE IMPACT Jam & Looper demo

Sonicware previously brought us the ELZ_1 Synthesizer. They now have a LIVEN 8bit Warps synth on Kickstarter.

"Hi! I'm Endo from SONICWARE. We released gadget synth ELZ_1 last year. Our next challenge is the LIVEN series of instruments that we are designing with a focus on live electronic performance. The first in this series is the LIVEN 8bit warps.

LIVEN 8bit warps is combined an 8-bit waveform memory synthesizer with a step sequencer, that we are designing with a focus on live electronic performance.

We are seeking your support to produce the LIVEN 8bit warps through KICKSTARTER crowdfunding. Please help us bring the LIVEN 8bit warps to life!

Carefully selected preset waveforms and editable user waveforms along with high-quality filters and effects can be used freely to create a wide spectrum of sounds. The LIVEN 8bit warps can generate classic retro game sounds of course, but its unique 8-bit sound can also be used in a range of music genres, including EDM, hip-hop, techno and rock.

Powerful functions for live electronic music performance include 16 physical control knobs, parameter locking for each sequencer step, a looper, and SYNC IN/OUT and MIDI IN/OUT connectors to make synchronized performance with other equipment easy.

All these powerful functions are in a device that weighs only 790 g. Play it anywhere at any time.

The Galaxy Electric - Buchla Cosmic Drone - Session 7 - Modular Drone Music

Published on Jan 11, 2020 The Galaxy Electric

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure:

https://thegalaxyelectric.lpages.co/5...

If you find it useful and wish to donate to keep us droning:

https://www.paypal.com/paypalme2/theg...

Relax and tune into our live weekly improvised Drone Sessions. This seventh session involves a drone featuring two independent Buchla style complex and modulation oscillators starting in tune a couple octaves apart. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control, beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as mindfulness sounds as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. Drones are also great for a Sci-fi film soundtrack. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction. The fact that we are manipulating these oscillators live and in collaboration helps the drone meander ever so smoothly in an evolving fashion as we are always reacting to one another's subtle movements. These movements are improvised so there is an unrehearsed and reactive ebb and flow to the tones generated.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel, and a small system involving a Buchla clone model 259 Programmable Complex Waveform Generator, Buchla 292h Dual Lowpass Gate, and 281h Dual Function Generator in the Buchla LEM Powered 3 Boat.

Continua: the $100 Moog One

Published on Jan 11, 2020 NONsynth

"I've been obsessed with this Moog video with Paris Strother [posted here]: which features my favourite synth line / chord progression ever. I thought my love for this sound meant I needed to get a Moog One to be happy.

I wanted to see if I could recreate it using the new Audio Damage Continua plugin. In so doing, realized two things:

[1] Continua is my new favourite synth plugin. The oscillator Warp and Skew parameters are so good on a sine wave, introducing all sorts of additional harmonics. I'll be using these settings until I can't stand to hear them anymore.

[2] The sound from the original is amazing, but it's really the chord progression and playing that make it shine. I bet this Continua patch would come alive if Paris was playing instead of it being a midi sequence."

Electro Faustus EF109 Drone Thing Synthesizer RARE Game of Thrones GoT Targaryen

via this auction

"This listing is for a rare hand-painted House Targaryen version of the Electro Faustus EF109 Drone Thing Synthesizer, called the "Throne of Drones." (I've seen a Lannister version somewhere out there.) This Drone Thing is practically brand new, I've had it for a little more than a month and I just needed it for one project. Used exclusively in a non-smoking studio. I'm including a 9V Boss power supply.

From Electro-Faustus:

The Electro-Faustus Drone Thing EF109 is a noise maker par excellence for sonic mischief creating layers of drones that could fit in at hipster art gallery experimentation or mucking about with your friends with some chemical enhancement in the basement. Mostly...it's just so damn fun to play with!

It works by generating layers of tones which are layered on top of one another to generate some really interesting drone-y backdrops. There are 6 different oscillators which you can tweak the pitch of and toggle between, as well as Tone, Volume, and a Starve control which adds nicely to the weirdness. Add some reverb and delay and the thing just starts singing as you twiddle knobs.

And it just looks gorgeously sexy.

Insanely fun soundscape generation, this ain't music..it's chaos

Barring an unforeseen delay, Grendel RA-99 Grenadier will be ready in a couple weeks, and the price will be under $500. Available soon! Different demos to come... w/ smashing gabber bass"
