Lyra//SunFall /RainShine

Published on Jan 25, 2020 C Nich0lls

"SunFall is an ambient/drone recording made with Soma Labs' Lyra synthesizer. The Lyra is quite an unpredictable instrument and SunFall is the first recording that I made with it.

The Lyra is incredibly organic and I think this piece reflects that nature. The recording is dense and loud, so adjust your listening volume to a level you enjoy. It is intended to be enjoyed at both low and high levels.

It may appear to be quite different from some of my other uploads, but I think it still represents my fascination with electronic sound and audio journeys.

Each of the voices was tuned by ear, in order to create a dense, layered drone. This drone was then articulated, voice-by voice, in a single take. The recording was originally made without effects and is remarkably raw. The posted version has some minor mastering and effects added."

RainShine is an ambient/drone recording made with Soma Labs' Lyra synthesizer. The Lyra is quite an unpredictable instrument and RainShine is the companion to SunFall.

As with SunFall, each of the voices was tuned to form part of a drone. However, in this piece the higher register voices were FM'ed together. The articulation of the voices was also approached slightly differently.
The original recording was made without any effects and in a single take. The uploaded version includes some light mastering and effects.

"Roland JP-08 (Jupiter-8) JUNO-DS ARP & Drums Syncing"
This is a very simple video to get folks jamming with their
JUNO-DS & other external hardware synthesizers.
You will have to assign control change #'s (CC's) to
the 4 assignable knobs on the JUNO-DS to get the
JUNO-DS to send midi sysex / cc's to external gear.
After that this jam can be attempted.
I'll make a video for that later if anyone wants me too!
Since the JUNO-DS pattern sequencer does NOT
transmit midi out this method can help you JAM
with at least the ARPEGGIO & Drum Patterns!

Recorded into Ableton LIVE with no extra FX! ;)

"A simple ambient jam on the Arturia MicroFreak and Zoom MS-70CDR.

My music on Bandcamp:

The patches for the MicroFreak and the MS-70 are included below.

All is improvised using the arpeggiator and a custom patch on the MicroFreak, and delays and reverb on the MS-70. One of the delays shifts the note a fifth up on each delay, so the arpeggiated chords will typically get an added seventh (from the thrid) and ninth (from the fifth), and sometimes even a eleventh (if I play the seventh). During the jam, I play around with filter and envelopes, as usual, trying to find sweet spots along the way.

The Zoom MS-70CDR patch is included below. To load a patch into the MS-70, connect your MS-70 to your computer using a USB cable, go to, right-click an available patch slot, select "Import Patch from text", and paste in this text.

The Galaxy Electric - Buchla Cosmic Drone - Session 9 - Modular Drone Music

Published on Jan 24, 2020 The Galaxy Electric

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure:

Relax and tune into our live weekly improvised Drone Sessions. This 9th session involves a drone featuring two independent Buchla style complex and modulation oscillators starting in tune a couple octaves apart. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control, beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as mindfulness sounds as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. Drones are also great for a Sci-fi film soundtrack. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction. The fact that we are manipulating these oscillators live and in collaboration helps the drone meander ever so smoothly in an evolving fashion as we are always reacting to one another's subtle movements. These movements are improvised so there is an unrehearsed and reactive ebb and flow to the tones generated.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel, and a small system involving a Buchla clone model 259 Programmable Complex Waveform Generator, Buchla 292h Dual Lowpass Gate, and 281h Dual Function Generator in the Buchla LEM Powered 3 Boat.

"The prophet-600 is a six-note polyphonic 61-key MIDI analog synthesizer released by SEQUENTIAL CURCUITS in 1982.

Although it is positioned as a cheap version of prophet-5, the tone is different.

The prophet-600 omits the noise generator and has a slightly smaller body than the prophet-5, making it more portable.

The configuration is 2VCO, 1VCF, 1VCA, 2EG. The tone memory has 100 programs.

If you select Unison mode, you can change from six-note polyphonic to monophonic. Glide works polyphonically.
The filter is made by Curtis.

"This is the Multivox MX-75 Dual Voice Synthesizer, also known as the Hillwood Pulser M75 Dual Voice Synthesizer.

Unlike other Multivox/Hillwood synths you never seem to see the rare MX-75 for sale.

The Hillwood Pulser was developed and built by Hillwood (aka Firstman) in Japan. These synths were then rebadged as Multivox and sold in America. This is a very early example: the Multivox name was on stickers placed over the Pulser name on the front and back; later examples had Multivox painted directly onto the case.

This synth has some scratches on the case but other than that is all-original and in 100% working condition. It sounds amazing."

ARP RHODES CHROMA Analog Synthesizer - Sounds, Patches & Ambient Soundscapes | Synth Demo

Published on Jan 25, 2020 synth4ever

"ARP Rhodes Chroma analog synthesizer demo featuring various sounds, patches, presets and ambient soundscapes. This Rhodes Chroma synth demo covers a variety of sounds on the Chroma and features some effects from Strymon Big Sky. Filmed at Synth Palace ( in Montreal, Canada.

The Rhodes Chroma is a vintage analog synth originally designed by ARP, and then completed by Rhodes in the early 1980s. Only 3000 Rhodes Chroma synths were manufactured, making it fairly rare today. Its sound can be described as big, brash, powerful and aggressive in tone, but also refined, harmonically rich and organic.

The ARP Rhodes Chroma uses VCOs and features 16 voice mode (1-osc per voice) and 8-voice mode (2-osc per voice). The synth engine architecture is very powerful and allows for complex sound creation, parameter routing and modulation. The Chroma uses an Electronically Reconfigurable System which allows the VCOs, VCFs and VCAs to be reconfigured, or "patched" like modular synthesizers, but without the patch cords.

For example, filters can be arranged in series for 4 pole or band-pass response, or in parallel for notch filtering. In addition, some configurations feature oscillator synchronization, filter frequency modulation or ring modulation.

The Rhodes Chroma has 16 LFOs (1 or 2 per voice) which are digitally generated -- shapes include: sine, cosine, offset sine, half sine, saw, square, lag square, 2 x triangles, random and 6 x patterns. The filter can be set to 24dB/oct low-, high-, band-pass or notch modes, or 12dB/oct low- or high-pass modes. It also has digitally generated ADSR envelopes.

The ARP Rhodes Chroma has a 64-note keyboard, which is velocity sensitive and weighted action, with optional polyphonic aftertouch capability (if installed). It can store 50 programs, is 2-part multi-timbral, and can also be expanded up to 32/16 voices of polyphony via the separate Chroma Expander unit (also quite rare).

In its standard configuration, editing the Rhodes Chroma in real-time is very difficult as it uses membrane panel buttons and a single data slider for changing parameters. However, today there are Behringer BCR2000 sysex templates available for download, as well as custom controllers available for purchase from manufacturers like StereoPing ( and Red Shift Consulting's "ENABLER" ( which give you direct hands-on control via knob-per-function design.

I hope you enjoy this demo of the Rhodes Chroma by ARP. It is a colossal synth and versatile instrument, and sounds magnificent to this day. The raw power and tone from the Rhodes Chroma is something which must be heard in person, as some have suggested it is essentially a polyphonic ARP 2600. Needless to say, I was very impressed with this beautiful synth and its sounds. Hope you enjoy the demo."

Antonus 2600 Building Timelapse

Published on Jan 25, 2020 wutierson

"Timelapse of Antonus 2600 cabinet building process and final assembly. Many hours of work condensed in this video! The soundtrack is made using Antonus 2600 and Antonus Step Brother, multitrack and recorded in 6 takes.

Every Antonus 2600 have its cabinet made like the classic ARP 2600 using wood, Tolex and hardware using our hands. Every unit is made with people who works with care and love, like instruments was done in old times.
In Antonus we believe that this energy and intention is part of the the original instrument and we want to do in that way, maybe is not the easier or cheaper way but is the most sincere with the original spirit, more human feeling and less mass production / automated production."
