”A new generation of modules has been produced to further increase the versatility of the SDS 7. In these modules, the analog section has been replaced with a second digital section, there are separate envelopes for each digital sound as well as a third for the noise generator.

The second sample has a programmable threshold control which allows for second sample to sound at a pre-determined dynamic from the pad, and the click circuit has been re-designed to accent the start of the digital sound, I.E. The ‘click’ part of a bass drum. So for the first time the two distinct parts of a sampled drum sound are controllable. Combined with the filter controls and separate ‘bend’ controls for each sample. This module is the most versatile yet, and places Simmons once again at the fore of multi sample synthesis for percussion.”

“Primarily designed to offer the SDS 7 owner the flexibility of the multi sampled approach for the SDS 9 bass and snare drum, the modules can of course be used for any sampled sounds.”

"Yamaha CS-60 Rare 1977 Vintage Analog Synthesizer.

This is the most amazing synthesizer I’ve ever had and I hate to have to get rid of it.

This instrument is in really good condition due to the maintenance I’ve done to it over the years which Is

I Completely rebuilt the power supply and replaced every electrolytic capacitor in the instrument along with many other capacitor types which is close to 1000 capacitors. Also, I replaced all the CMOS chips and started replacing some of the voice card potentiometers. I documented all of the restoration done to the instrument and will give you that pictures and information, if you like.

There are a few things I haven’t got around to yet which are replace the pitch ribbon spring:100-200$ cost.

Replace IG 151 LFO chip for the ring modulator: 75-150$ cost and: replace the rest of the scratchy potentiometers on the voice boards 50-150$ cost but, the instrument works fine. The Only problem I ever have is it occasionally gets some static from a few bad potentiometers but after it warms up it’a fine.

Here is videos of made with the instrument." [posted here]

When the user changes a preset, the new preset is loaded into a buffer, but the actual preset change is made just before a new note is played. This option will be available together with the instant preset change.

The presets shown in this video were created only to show the preset change functionality and will not be part of the factory presets."

Sequential / DSI OB-6 Synthesizer

Published on Apr 4, 2020 Matt Johnson Jamiroquai

Update: At 2:45 Matt Johnson mentions the OB-6 is not an OB-Xa. He's correct of course. The OB-Xa had a switchable 2-Pole and 4-Pole filter. The OB-6 has an SEM 2-Pole based filter that can transition between LP and HP modes with a BP switch. I sold my OB-Xa and picked up an OB-6. They are different. The OB-6 has a certain fuzziness about it while the OB-Xa sounded "tamer/cleaner" to me. I'd recommend this comparison by Retrosound, as well as some additional demos here.

"My views on the fantastic DSI OB-6 plus some sounds I have programmed."

Waveshaper for “Pulse Forming Process”

Inspired by the constant-breadth pulses that vibrating lips make: such as double reed (oboe, cor anglais, bassoon), free-air reed (harmonic, harmonium) and brass (trumpet, trombone) instruments. Instruments with multiple pickups (clavinet, electric guitar) too! Allows CV modulation of pulse breadth. Lots of space between the fundamental and harmonics above 1kHz (variable).

Plus variable bass boost. Plus variable “sharkstooth” output.

Technical: Pulses variable from less than .1 ms to 5 ms. Modulation input allows breadth-variation

Physical: 4HP or 6HP wide, 50 mm deep, 16 pin power socket (10 pin can be used).

Power (Current): estimates +12V: < 20mA, -12V: <20mA, +5V < 20mA --- The Fricko Blip was first featured here back in July, 2019.

Published on Jul 23, 2019 Synthcomp

"Here's a little demo of the Roland D-110 with mostly custom and some factory sounds. All sounds are from the D-110. I've also used a Korg TR synth to make this demo but only as an effect processor, so it doesn't appear in the video."

via this auction

"The Roland D-110 has been described by some as 'a poor man's D-50' though I don't think that does it justice.

As a current, longtime D-50 and D-70 owner and tinkerer, I'm very familiar with their sound, and while the D-110 shares the same LA (Linear Arithmetic) synthesis architecture of it's 1st Gen D-50 and 2nd Gen D-70 siblings, it's a completely different animal capable of sounds that would be essentially impossible for the D-50 or D-70 to achieve without multiple D-50s/D-70s. That’s not to imply that the D-110 is "better," just different and in certain aspects more customizable and complex when given proper attention.

"I have filmed myself creating a pattern from scratch with the only Raveolution309. You will notice the lack of compression and sometimes PCM's can sound very loud.

That machine is a beauty with a lot of little bugs, you will hear the sequencer stopping/slowing down when I change part, sounds from a part can cut the ones from other parts, many sounds irregularities etc... this machine is alive!!!

I can play like that during days only with that baby, I do not produce good techno but these oldshool sounds remember me the golden age of techno... I miss Quasimidi :("

1976 Moog Micromoog

"Made between 1975-1979, the Micromoog was released shortly after the famous Minimoog. Intended to be affordable for those who wanted a genuine Moog synthesizer, it has also become a classic instrument. The same 24db filter ensured the "Moog" sound, and with a ribbon pitch controller, a mod wheel + 1) pitch stability :- has heated temperature regulation 2) reliability, by using top components 3) single P.C. board construction. One VCO, one modulation oscillator, one VCF, one VCA, TWO contour generators, random (S & H), and one noise source. The creative musical possibilities are endless....and with input options eg S-trig....lots of non-musical stuff can be produced as well....I have not played a Micromoog for years (I was a Moog dealer in 1970/1980s...). I think it blows away the Rogue and the Prodigy..."

Orpho D/8 DIODE FILTER | EURORACK MODULAR, MODULE

Published on Apr 4, 2020 HOX808

via ORPHO (google translated):

"The D / 8 diode filter is a distinctive 12 dB / octave multimode filter that is used as a resonant low-pass filter, high-pass filter or band-pass filter.

When used fine, the filter behaves rather softly and smoothly, but with increasing resonance it can sound quite hearty and aggressive. Self-oscillation is possible.

There are separate inputs for high-pass filters, low-pass filters and bandpass filters. For example, Filter and bundle three different signals at the same time.

The BOOST controller passionately potentiates the maximum final modulation.

Connections:

2x CV input, 1x with attenuator for 1V / OCTAVE.

Signal inputs HP, LP, BP

Out - signal output

3U high, 12HP wide, 30mm deep. Power consumption: 12V | 50m"

ORPHO ECHOSCOPE | DELAY GENERATOR | EURORACK MODULAR, MODULE

Published on Apr 4, 2020 HOX808

via ORPHO (google translated):

"We are arching the time.

The signal applied to the input is timed by the TIME CONTROLLER (echo threshold). The echo threshold is strongly dependent on the characteristics of the sound and the level of the reflections. The REPEAT control determines the repetition rate.

In certain controller positions it is even possible to "freeze" the signal. We get wonderful feedback loops and space-like sounds as if we had received them directly from space.

Four time coordinates are available on the Echoscope ad hoc.

TIME

REPEAT

REPULSE - regulates the Hall ratio

REFLECTION - regulates the relationship between input and output.

Connections:

CV input for TIME.

IN - signal input

Out - signal output

3U high, 12HP wide, 30mm deep. Power consumption: 12V | 40mA"

CTAG TBD Walkthrough

Published on Apr 4, 2020 Creative Technologies FH Kiel

Follow-up to this post.

"Walkthrough of CTAG TBD an open source Eurorack synthesis module.

CTAG TBD as in "to be determined" is an open source eurorack audio module. All sounds and effects in this video are CTAG TBD, no extra processing!

It can be easily extended by your own DSP algorithms using a flexible c++ plugin architecture.

It's core feature is control of your plugin parameters through a web application UI and WiFi access. You basically log onto your TBD with a browser, choose your active plugin and modify its parameters. You can store patches per plugin. CTAG TBD recalls the last active plugins and patches upon reboot, so you continue making music where you left off.

All source (hw+sw) are available on https://github.com/ctag-fh-kiel/ctag-tbd

More introductory videos will be available on this channel soon, with specific focus on functionalities and how to add your own code.

If you are interested in beta hardware email contact@instrumentsofthings.com subject "TBD REQUEST"."
