Triadex Muse Electronic Yule Log Live Stream

Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers

"Long form live performance of the elusive Triadex Muse. The sliders will be modified from time to time during the stream. The output of the Muse is a series of dry square waves so effects were added to spice it up. Enjoy!

The Triadex Muse is a sequencer-based synthesizer, produced in 1972, and designed by Edward Fredkin and Marvin Minsky at MIT. It is an algorithmic, deterministic event generator, utilizing early digital integrated circuits to generate an audio output that can sound very musical. It produces a sequence of notes based on the settings of about a dozen different parameters, including four small sliders that control Volume, Tempo, Pitch, and Fine Pitch. Only a few hundred were ever made."

"We got this unit from our friend Vince Clarke of Erasure, Yaz, Depeche Mode, etc.
Here's the story behind this particular MS50, as we told it on Instagram when we got this unit in:

JUST IN: Vince Clarke’s (Depeche Mode, Yaz, Erasure, etc) Tone Tweakers serviced Korg MS50. For sale soon (on our website). History: many years ago, Vince swapped us his first MS50 (which needed servicing) for one of our fully serviced MS50s. He hadn't really used it though, so yesterday he asked us if we wanted it. Duh! 😂 Although we encouraged him to move it across the studio so he could use it with his vintage MS20, he wasn’t into it, so we snagged it and bagged it. It's still working quite well after all these years, thanks to us servicing it before we delivered it to his old studio in Maine, but we still intend to service it again prior to sale. Vince and Andy Bell are still releasing albums as Erasure. Also check out Vince’s record label Very Records. Use google to find them, since we can’t post links here.

This MS50 was fully disassembled, cleaned, and electronics were completely overhauled, sparing no expense, so it works like new again and is better than the rest. All pots and jacks were cleaned. Replaced some capacitors. Performed a slight power supply modification. Recalibrated. This process required approximately 6 hours of skilled labor. We didn't need to do it since it worked fine when we got it - we WANTED to do it to hopefully extend the life of this beautiful instrument so it outlasts all others of its kind.

If this unit fails to sell for its current price, we may be open to counter-offers… or we may just keep it along with the other MS50 in our studio."

"The synthesizer section was fully serviced and is working perfectly.

The 2 drum pads work fine and will be included in this sale if requested (please remember to request them!). They were built with a layer of foam inside. As with nearly if not all vintage foam of this age that we've seen, this foam is crumbling. The crumbs are coming out the holes in the pads. We would normally want to replace this foam, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to disassemble the pads and we don't want to risk breaking them, so we're selling them the way they are. As noted above, the pads aren't even needed to use this piece - we've got a Syn Drum Twin in our studio and always use it without them - we trigger it via a Roland TR-808 (which we also have one of we plan to list shortly)."

There's a Prophet 5 in the studio again; it was a good day.

"Although it has been many years since I had to sell my Prophet 10 in order to pay the lawyer for the custody battle, I have pretty consistently missed being able to play it. So today I find myself with the next best thing in the studio. This is just me making sure it functions properly. I will surely be making plenty more recordings."

"Now available - https://www.geosynths.com/prophetx

Here is the last of 4 Videos, highlighting Patches 97 to 128 of X-plorations Vol 1 for the Sequential Prophet X. I decided to do a Bank for the Prophet X, however I went and Sampled a variety of Oscillators from the Synths that I own, including Moog ONE, Dreadbox Erebus, Moog Sirin, Matriarch and much more.

I've sampled the Oscillators wide open and every Key across a 61 note range and used the Synthesis capabilities of the Prophet X. I have also utilized some of the Factory Content, such as Strings and Choirs for some of the Patches, as well as the on-board Oscillators.

Many Patches are Stacked or Splits, however many use the fantastic Stereo Filter for Evolving pads, Strings, Leads, Bass and so much more."

Rare Original ARP 2600 Front Panel Facsimile

via this auction

"We got this with one of the many ARP 2600 synthesizer we have bought, meticulouslty refurbished and future-proofed and resold.

ARP made a 2600 Front Panel Facsimile pad of blank patches where users could draw in their patch settings so they could recreate them later.

This is a big (36" x 21"), thick laminated blank ARP patch panel drawing that's similar if not identical to the image of the front panel in that Facsimile pad. Because it's laminated and a similar ARP piece we have is not, we suspect it was created for teaching purposes for the demonstrator to write settings on using a dry erase marker. There are no signs one would expect of dry erase marker use on the front panel, but we're still hopefully this was more than just a decorative promotional piece. The other alternative is, of course, that this is just a decorative piece of promotional ARP art. Either way, it's pretty cool. Notice the laminate is raised in places.

If anyone has more info about this rare item, please contact us! (Someone already got in touch to let us know we were most likely correct about our assumptions).

Roland 303 not included."

Frequency Central Seismograf BD and SD

Frequency Central

"A short Seismograf BD and SD jam, just randomly auditioning some of the drum types, and tuning/distort effects. No real plan!"

"Seismograf is a PIC based drum module featuring coding by Jetroid. There is currently a choice of two PICs which may be used with Seismograf, ‘BD‘ and ‘SD‘. As you might expect, BD contains a range of 8 bass drums, while SD contains a range 8 of snare drums. The drum sounds are 10 bit encodings of some of our favourite electronic kits from yesteryear (see chart below). It is not possible for the user to load their own sounds onto Seismograf PICs, but there is a chance that we may release alternative drum sets as the years roll (!) by.

Select

This knob is used to select one of the 8 sounds to be triggered. It has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.

Tune

This knob may be used to detune the drum sound either upwards or downwards. It has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.

Distort

This knob may be used to introduce either one of two different types of distortion to your chosen drum sound. When set to the mid position (12 o’clock) no distortion is present. Turning the knob anti-clockwise will cause the sound to be progressively clipped harder, while turning the knob clockwise will cause the sound to be progressively more bitcrushed. This knob has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.

Secret Sauce

Try running the sawtooth output of an audio rate VCO into Seismograf’s trigger input, then wiggle the Tune knob manually, or apply a control voltage to the Tune input. Wow! What’s happening here then? When I first demo’ed this feature to Jetroid he buffered for a few minutes before performing a cold shutdown, unable to process what was happening to his code. Seismograf is acting kinda like a fliter, right? Well maybe! Probably more akin to oscillator sync really. As the incoming trigger is so fast, Seismograf only gets to play the initial part of it’s waveform, less on high notes, more on low notes. Additionally, there is naturally higher frequency content the higher the note and so forth. Whatever’s going on, we’re sure that you’ll agree that it sounds freaking awesome. More than just a drum module, right?"

(MU) Frequency Central

(MU) Frequency Central feat. Massive Modular Bundle: osc sync, PWM, Keystep histrionics, the works

2 x System X Oscillator
System X Lowpass Filter
System X Dual VCA
System X Dual ADSR

...which together forms our classic MU Massive Modular Bundle!

Well, I was going to program a sequence into the fabulous Arturia Keystep https://www.arturia.com/keystep/overview (accept no imitation), but soon realised that I was having far too much fun just wiggling and jamming out, so I hit record - the rest is history.

The patch is quite interesting, as there are two VCAs available, I've patched sawtooths via VCF and VCA, and pulses directly to the second VCA. There's a negative ADSR output patched to the second VCA, so the PWM'ed sound fades in as the VCF and VCA sound fades out.

As you will already know, these lovely VCOs feature onboard LFOs which I'm making full use of for a bit of vibrato, PWM sweeps, as well as that huge oscillator sync modulation.

Processing is via MU Stasis Leak (off camera) for some huge delay action.

If you have read this far please comment 'Huge Monster!'"

(MU) Frequency Central feat. Little Melody, Raging Bull, System X Oscillator, Stasis Leak and more!

"Finally got around to producing a MU modular video. This one feature the following Frequency Central MU modules:

Wave Runner
Little Melody
System X Envelope
System X Oscillator
Raging Bull
Stasis leak

I'm using the Boss Dr-55 (bottom left) as a master clock only. The clock is patched to Little Melody, System X Envelope, Wave Runner and also Stasis Leak (via a clock divider).

I've set up a little riff on Little Melody which is being played by the System X Oscillator/Raging Bull/System X Envelope synth voice. I'm occasionally toggling between two modes for some variation.

System X Oscillator's sawtooth and pulse waveforms are patched into the audio inputs of Raging Bull. I'm doing some manual tweaking of it's octave rotary switch. There's also a bit of fat creamy PWM going on

To modulate Raging Bull's cutoff, I'm using Wave Runner in it's sample and hold mode to modulate, System X Envelope, the triangle output of System X Oscillator, as well as some manual tweaks and twists.

System X Envelope is patched to Raging Bull's 3rd CV input, thus controlling both VCF cutoff and VCA openess(?!)/closedness(!?).

Stasis Leak is set to long delays, and is synced to the rhythm via a clock divider (off camera).

If you've read this far, please comment 'Fat and creamy'."

Anyma Phi: Sequenced using a groovebox & Roli Seaboard Rise 25

Aodyo Instruments

"In this demo, Romain sequences the Anyma Phi using a simple MC-303 groovebox.

All sounds are generated by the Anyma Phi, except for kick provided by the groovebox :
- a plucked string + a VA oscillator (bassline), going into filter, resonator and a little phaser
- a resonator plus delay
- an external input source (kick drum mixed into the Anyma Phi and passed through a filter + resonator)

NB: encoder response to be improved.

Demo and sound design by Romain Bricout.

Anyma Phi blends the classic ingredients of electronic music with physical modeling technology, allowing it to simulate acoustic sound sources, such as strings or reeds, as well as resonating structures, like wood, glass, or metal."

"Up for sale is an Elektor Formant 18-module case: a big unit with space for 12 modules and a smaller case with space for 6 modules. Two modules are installed: 'kov / gate' and a 'netz (psu)' module. The keyboard is also included, but the cable to connect it with the case isn't there anymore. We sell it as-is, for spares / project. There are some psu boards installed, but it's such a mess inside that we can't say anything about the technical condition.

Cosmetically everything is in used condition. One of the corners of the keyboard is broken, an inlay of a knob of the keyboard interface is missing, there are a few scratches on the keyboard case and keys. The wooden cases have a few scratches and wear and tear. A lot of screws are missing. Please check all the photos before purchase."

MFB-522 Analog Drum Machine Sequencer SN 09073

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

“mfb-522 is a drumcomputer with a fully analogue sound engine that offers plenty of editing capabilities. it includes a step-sequencer with popular tr-style running-light-programming. memory locations are available for 72 patterns as well as for 8 songs.

available edit controls:
bass drum [decay, tune, tone, level] - the bass drum can be programmed in two different lengths per pattern. it also offers and individual output.

snare drum [noise, tone, level] - rimshot [level] - snare drum and rimshot cannot be played simultaneously. however, they can be used in the same pattern. both instruments share the same individual output.

clap [attack, filter, decay, level] - the parameters allow setting the width and fullness of the clap sound. this sound also has its proprietary individual output.

tom/conga [tune, decay, level] - this sound source can be switched between tom and conga instruments. sounds programming allows setting of three different pitches.

cowbell [tune, decay, level] clave [level] - tune for cowbell controls a detune-effect, while the pitch is set commonly with cymbal and hihat. cowbell and clave cannot be played simultaneously. however, they can be used in the same pattern.

cymbal [tone, decay, level] - tune sets the pitch for cymbal, cowbell and hihat

open/closed hihat [decay, level] - open and closed hihat cannot be played simultaneously. however, they can be used in the same pattern. this sound source offers and individual output.

the step-sequencer allows programming of 72 basic patterns plus 72 fill-ins. the latter being associated to the basic pattern memory location, resulting in a two-bar-pattern when using the fill-in. patterns can be combined to eight songs that each hold a user-definable sequence of up to 64 patterns. in addition to the instruments, a global accent-track is available. when set, the corresponding step will be played with a higher or lower volume-setting in comparison to the standard level. the mfb-522's sequencer offers three different steps of shuffling. a stereo output will carry all instruments minus those where individual outputs are in use (bass drum, snare drum/rimshot, claps and hihat). using the midi-in, drum-sounds can be played with a keyboard or external sequencer. here, the sound sources act velocity sensitive. finally, mfb-522 can be synchronized to incoming midi-clock.

Field recordings merge together in a sonic kaleidoscope of found sound cinematics - from underscoring pads to drones, pulses and textures.

Bioscape is a Kontakt instrument that is based on field recordings and found sounds to create musical content, this gives you an unpolished, raw and organic dimension to your production. Bioscape is particularly suitable for game and filmscore composers, but works extremely well with ambient music, music concrète, sound healing, music therapy or just as a standalone experimental instrument with presets created by Simon Stockhausen, Arksun, Luftrum, Sonic Underworld, Claus Gahrn, Empty Vessel, Adam Pietruszko, Echo Season and Triple Spiral Audio."

Adagio For Synths - Xmas edition

thesrabbit

"What makes this a Christmas video? You'll know it when you see it. What's the song? You'll know it when you hear it. Even though I played it wrong.

I just got the Roland Super JX-10 and am waiting for the Vecoven firmware chips to arrive so I can test new changes to the MIDI Mod app. The Super JX has a distinct instant 80's vibe to it that just feels like home. I spent the evening going through the JX-8P stock presets and there are so many great ones. This video features the "High String" preset. I needed to fill out the low end so I made a stringy, yet somewhat brassy patch on the Alpha Juno-2 to do that. I routed aftertouch to the filter for maximum feels. Unfortunately, the aftertouch sensitivity on this Super JX is about as good as the sensitivity on my Juno. It requires a minimum of 80 pounds of pressure just to eek out a MIDI value of 15. It's hours later now and my fingers are still tingling.

Both synths are running into an analog mixer and the aux send is going to the Ventris Dual Reverb with an "E-Dome" setting and then back into the mixer. From there it just goes straight into the audio interface. This is the raw recording. There are no additional effects or post processing."
