Grasshopper as an instrument - Play that cricket!

video upload by Espen Kraft

"Can you teach a grasshopper to play in perfect rhythm with your synthesizers and sounds? Can you train a grasshopper to be the next Zimmer, Williams or Junkie XL? Of course not, but you can sample it and use that to great effect, in a soundtrack. Sci-fi soundtrack tutorial recommended.

I'm using a Zoom H1 to record sounds in the field.
The sampler I use is the Yamaha TX16W from 1987. It is a 12 bit stereo sampler, at 33Khz.
I use the TAL sampler to process the sampled sound, and to loop it etc.
The song is called 'The Spacehopper Theme' and was made for this video. I use various synths in this and the song is mixed and mastered."

Update:
the press release, just in, follows with additional details and some spectacular renders of a conceptual hardware version. Before you get to excited, Imagine is software only:

Expressive E and AAS Team Up on the Imagine Software Instrument: A Playful New World of Unknown Acoustic Sounds.

Imagine lets you easily play with a new variety of sounds—acoustic, organic, and alive from the resonant bodies of real-life instruments.

Paris, France, September 9, 2021 — Expressive E’s new Imagine plug-in instrument captures the qualities of different real-life instrument bodies and modifies and combines their acoustic characteristics to create an imaginary acoustics landscape.

Thanks to a playful, multidimensional approach, Imagine allows you to have evolving textures, including several dimensions to explore for each preset. This unique approach produces mysterious, inspiring, unknown sound dimensions from familiar-sounding elements.

Imagine results from an exciting collaboration between Applied Acoustics Systems (AAS)—the foremost pioneer of acoustic physical modeling software instruments — who provides the sound engine — and Expressive E, a company grounded in the mission of improving the way musicians interact with sounds by creating a much more intuitive and powerful music-making experience.

“At the forefront of a new generation of controllers that provide multidimensional expression, Expressive E’s expertise proved to be a perfect match for our physical modeling technology,” says Marc-Pierre Verge, CEO of Applied Acoustics Systems. “They created a flexible and playful interface based around real-time manipulations that allow one to morph between layers of resonating objects. This inspired their sound design team to create a brilliant library of rich organic soundscapes to explore.”

Ashun Sound Machines (ASM) Announces New Hydrasynth Deluxe and Hydrasynth Explorer Synths

Hydrasynth Deluxe Introductionvideo upload by ASM Ashun Sound Machines

Hydrasynth Explorer Introduction
Hydrasynth Explorer Introduction video upload by ASM Ashun Sound Machines

"Ashun Sound Machines (ASM) announces Hydrasynth Deluxe and Hydrasynth Explorer keyboard synth sensations

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA/HONG KONG, CHINA: creativity-sparking sensational products provider Ashun Sound Machines (ASM) is proud to announce upcoming availability of Hydrasynth Deluxe and Hydrasynth Explorer as two new additions to its Hydrasynth keyboard and desktop Polyphonic Wave Morphing Synthesizer siblings successfully launched to widespread critical acclaim in 2019 — the new-found former as a 73-note, 16-voice version of the Hydrasynth keyboard, while the latter features a 37-note mid-sized key-bed — as of September 9…

As a 73-note, 16-voice version of the Hydrasynth keyboard complete with proprietary ASM Polytouch® technology to provide responsive velocity and expressive polyphonic aftertouch over each note, Hydrasynth Deluxe additionally features dual stereo — MAIN/UPPER (L/MONO and R) and LOWER (L and R) — outputs. On top of that, there are also split and layering functions for its 16 voices powered by two separate Hydrasynth — analog modeling (OSC 1-3) and WaveScan synthesis (OSC 1+2) — voice engines, allowing for full bi-timbral control. An accessory shelf that mounts on the back of the right side of Hydrasynth Deluxe extends the top panel-available area so diverse devices such as sound modules, mixers, laptops, and drum machines can comfortably be accommodated atop. A user-assignable four-octave ribbon controller and ergonomically-designed pitch and modulation wheels — all familiar from the Hydrasynth keyboard — all add to its illustrious performance capabilities, complimented by an also-now-familiar connection compliment of SUSTAIN and EXPRESSION PEDAL inputs, MIDI (IN, OUT, and THRU on five-pin DIN, as well as class-compliant USB B), and a comprehensive CV / GATE section (for playing nicely with the ever- widening Eurorack modular world, vintage synthesizers, and more).

Moving on to the other end of the synth scale, Hydrasynth Explorer is a compact-sized Hydrasynth featuring a 37-note mid-sized key-bed with proprietary ASM Polytouch® technology to provide responsive velocity and expressive polyphonic aftertouch features that are not found in other smaller-sized keyboards. However, Hydrasynth Explorer still has the full eight-voice Hydrasynth engine and, despite diminutive — 21.81”/ 55.4cm (W) x 9.72”/24.7cm (D) x 2.28”/5.8cm (H) — dimensions in comparison to its bigger brother, also features CV / GATE OUTPUTS, a SUSTAIN PEDAL input, and standard-sized MIDI IN and OUT connectors (complimented by class-compliant USB B connectivity), as well as a stereo — L/ MONO and R — OUTPUT and another output for (head)PHONES. Perfectly portable, Hydrasynth Explorer can also be powered by 8x AA batteries — not included.

Indeed, Hydrasynth Deluxe and Hydrasynth Explorer both bring back polyphonic aftertouch — one of the most requested features in synthesizers and controllers — with their respective semi-weighted-keys-providing Polytouch® keyboards beautifully breathing life into otherwise static sounds by affording an ability to create expressive passages, unlike common channel aftertouch-enabled keyboards. It is not necessary, therefore, to learn a new keyboard technique to be able to play and perform with an ASM Polytouch® keyboard. Thanks to the two new additions to ASM’s Hydrasynth keyboard range, deciding which one best suits is now a threefold creative choice... and a clearly-defined one at that!

The bigger picture is immediately clearer as ASM CEO Glen Darcey ends on an equally high note: “Our goal at ASM is to create premium- quality, fantastic-sounding, extremely-playable instruments providing musicians with the affordable tools they need to express themselves musically. Our team has many years of experience with electronic music products, both on a personal and professional level — from playing them to designing them. Our unique partnership with Medeli allows us to realize this goal.”

Hydrasynth Deluxe and Hydrasynth Explorer are expected to ship in November 2021, available to purchase via ASM’s growing global network of authorized dealers (http://www.ashunsoundmachines.com/dealers) at an MSRP of $1,999.00 USD ($1,799.00 USD MAP)/€1,749.00 EUR/£1,699.00 GBP/¥224,900 JPY for Hydrasynth Deluxe and an MSRP of $799.00 USD ($599.00 USD MAP)/€599.00 EUR/£549.00 GBP/¥79,900 JPY for Hydrasynth Explorer."

Berna 3 Teaser 1

video upload by Giorgio Sancristoforo

"The WBM Tuneable Indicating Amplifier with a Pulse Generator and a Sweep/Modulation/Generator 274 from the forthcoming Berna 3 software for Mac and PC.
Info at: www.giorgiosancristoforo.net"

"Berna 3 early electronic music studio simulation is coming!

The 1950s studio gets a complete restyle and many new devices.

"THE LEGACY
I remember in 2009, when I was working at the first release of Berna, that first and foremost, Berna was my love letter to the RAI Studio di Fonologia Musicale, the electronic music studios of the national radio and television of Italy, founded in 1954 by the composers Bruno Maderna and Luciano Berio.
The Studio di Fonologia has been an obsession for me for many years. It was the better equipped electronic music studios of the 50s, with a lot of devices created ad hoc by the Italian Physicist Alfredo Lietti, who literally scavenged the RAI warehouses to collect all the electronic parts from broken or unused devices. The Studio was directed by Berio and Maderna, first, then by Luigi Nono, and for me these three composers are the sacred trinity of the classic Italian avant-garde. I immensely love their work and their legacy.
But behind the buttons and the mixer console, there was always the prototype of the modern sound engineer and producer: Marino Zuccheri, the technician in white coat that assisted the composers and very often created the sounds of the masterpieces of Italian electronic music. Zuccheri has been an immense inspiration for me, as a sound technician myself, and to his legacy I, once again, dedicate this new version of Berna.

Happy Nerding TR909 analogue drums emulation

video upload by Happy Nerding

"All drum voices are enhanced with additional controls and ranges over Tune, Attack and Decay. Thus possible variations in drum sound are far beyond that of the original TR909. Bass Drum produce standard emulation on the Left output, and its overdriven copy the Right output. Snare and Tom have low frequency punch added to the Right output. Rimshot produce standard emulation on the Left output, and a bit modified on the Right output. Both channels are in phase, so can be crossfaded/mixed for additional variations. Clap is stereo, so can be used with the extra space. Trig input to be connected to the Left input."

This appears to be the first one posted on the site. There was a Compac 2 and CP115B you can find in previous posts here. The case was featured though.

"Stunning, vintage and made in Italy - the Univox CP-110 also known as the Compac Piano. Even the lettering is reminiscent of Pac-Man funnily enough.

This funky vintage keyboard features three presets that are all individually combinable to produce an array of different sounds. There is also a switch to change between a natural release or gated and controlled by the sustain pedal. Add your favorite guitar pedal to this thing and it will murder any digital piano you can find.

All functions are 100%. The volume pot could use some deoxit but other than that there are no issues to be had.

Included is the original, Italian bovine leather bag made just for the CP-110. These are getting hard to come by, and is a great collector’s piece to add to your studio for some vintage flare."

Hologram Microcosm: Hold Sampler with Elektron Model:Cycles

video upload by Hologram Electronics

"In this one, we fed two melodic tracks from the Elektron Model:Cycles into Microcosm and then engaged the Hold Sampler after a few measures. When bringing in the rhythm tracks, we muted these two melodic tracks and used the Arp B preset to fill in that space. Because it was synced to the Cycles’ clock, moving the Time knob around different subdivisions of the tempo made it interactive and dynamic while staying in time."

Buchla 256e Control Voltage Processor: Applications, Use, and Tricks

video upload by Kent

"The Mighty, and Mightily Misunderstood, 256e Control Voltage Processor

This is a unique control voltage processor, regardless of the format. It is also unique in the Buchla brand in that it provides the only way to have VCA-like control over CVs, LFOs, and such. The Studio.h 254e does provide this kind of pseudo-VCA feature though and is an option for the “all analog man or mistress”.

The Breakpoints are wholly unique, are incredibly powerful; and I find them to be indispensable. As you’ll see and hear, they allow an incredibly detailed and personalized amount of fine-tuning of CV response. This is invaluable when used with a touchplate controller of any sort.
