Hollowness | Yamaha SY77 ambient demo

video upload by MIDERA

"I don't know. I haven't been able to focus. Last night I went to sleep knowing Ukraine was being invaded - and I just felt so terrible for all of the people there fleeing. The responses from various governments range from slaps on the wrist to tepid condemnations. They've all gone hollow...

Bastl - Softpop SP2

video upload by NOISEBUG

"Softpop SP2 is a radical subtractive synth under the influence of unconventional digital control. It’s a rare beast that excels at both melody and noise in equal measure.

SP2’s favorite sounds include bassline bangers, angelic chord progressions, distorted beats, and water droplets. Softpop also has an external input with enough gain and saturation to process any sound thru the filter and VCA.

The heart of SP2 is an analog, modular synth replete with lush tones and a chaotic disposition. Its brain is a complex digital sequencer and quantizer that brings (some) order to the chaos. The analog heart and the digital brain support each other while also pushing their behaviors out of normal routines in surprising ways.

SP2’s sequencer is built around simple 8-step loops of notes, gates, and slides called PATTERNS. These PATTERNS (8 per BANK) can be played and chained in any order (and in real-time) to create longer sequences. Softpop's sequencer expands on this classic format by adding 8 SCALES of user-definable quantization, 8 playback modes, and 8 performance FX, all of which can be independently chained and looped!

Use the SCALE chaining to build chord progressions or reach for playback modes to browse the 8 steps in different ways. Add randomness and modulation to the pitch with the PITCH MOD fader and transpose the sequence with the PITCH fader. Temporary FX can be played on the fly to help you build transitions or looped for yet another degree of sequenced complexity.

Plug any external audio signal into the SP2 to radically transform its sound with the built-in filter, VCA, and overdrive. Create stepped modulation with the sequencer and auto-wah style effects with the input-tracking envelope follower. Randomize it all with the sample & hold and use the 37-point patchbay to dive into the modulation madness.

Here are a few possibilities for SP2 signal processing:
Modulated overdrive, stepped filter, auto-filter (auto-wah), random filter, audio-rate modulated filter, resonant distortion, feedback distortion, MIDI-synced slicer, sequenced ring-modulator, MIDI-controlled ring-modulator, compressor/expander, and plenty more to be discovered.

Mass Effect - Uncharted Worlds [Analog Synth Cover] // Prophet 6, Octatrack, Fender Rhodes

video upload by Jameson Nathan Jones

"Sometimes you just have to do a cover of map music from one of your favorite games. 'Uncharted Worlds' from Mass Effect - composed by Sam Hulick

The Elektron Octatrack is sequencing 4 voices of the Sequential Prophet 6, and playing one chopped rhythmic sample. The Fender Rhodes (through the Gamechanger Audio Light Pedal) provides an improvisation on the main melody."

Using 100 different plugins to create 1 dark ambient piece

video upload by DATABROTH

"I've been wanting to do this for awhile, I want to see just how many plugins I can use in one piece. They wont be running all at once, but I want to avoid using the same plugin more than once. This will give me a chance to use all my reverbs, delays, distortions etc. count along with me as I go"

Alpha Juno-2: That Hoover Synth!

video upload by Alex Ball

"A video you've been asking for for at least three years! Hopefully I do it justice.

The Alpha Juno-2 from 1985 was one of a pair of instruments that marked the second wave of the Juno series following the classic Juno-6/60 and 106.

For a long time they were inexpensive and not particularly sought after, for reasons that we discuss, but they were always great sounding synths with way more flex than their earlier, much-praised siblings.

If there's one claim to fame that the Alpha can boast, it's THAT hoover sound (aka 'What the?') that has become a standard part of the synthesizer patch repertoire.

One thing I didn't cover was aftertouch and Alpha Juno owners will know why. ;)

Vintage ARP ODYSSEY SN 28337

"The serial number is #28337 and it was made in 1972. It already had the PPC (proportional pitch control) pad modification on it when I bought it. I have never seen another vintage 2800 with this update. They usually have the big knob for pitch bend.

All new sliders (I'm including the old ones in case someone wants to take the time to clean and save them).
Cleaned and lubed keybed and installed new keyboard bushings.
Replaced VCO2 course and fine sliders.
Replaced VCO1 v/oct, VCO2 v/oct, and 2nd voice trim pots.
Re-flowed and/or reworked previous solder joints, jumpers and repairs.
De-fluxed boards B, C, and PSU.
Complete calibration.
Rewired the low output (1/4" connector) to have a hotter high level audio output.

In the 70's, the Odyssey and the Minimoog ruled the land. The Odyssey has a unique sound and will do things that a Minimoog can't do, such as oscillator sync, duophonic capabilities (you can play two notes at once), sample and hold, and several other things. It is a sweet machine but I just never use it. Again this is NOT a Korg remake! This is the REAL Vintage beast. You can see in the photos that it comes with the original foam-lined case, the original Arp synthesizer guide, and a copy of the owner's manual in a binder."

Pink Moon (Nick Drake Cover) - Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Ambient Synthesizer Music

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"🎸 In this instrumental series I'm playing some classics of Rock/Pop music history from the 60s and 70s in some alienated electronic version. In this video it is:

𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗲

I was using the Vermona Perfourmer Mk2, fed with some sequences that I created inside Ableton Live.

The Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 is organized into the following parts:

- Oscillator 1 plays the bass
- Oscillator 2 is playing some mellow ambience line that comes in after the first chorus and has a lot of reverb on it
- Oscillator 3 is playing the melody and I added a little extra distortion (Soundtoys Devil Loc)
- Oscillator 4 plays the line of the piano in the original song"
