Ornament And Crime: That slew is not a bug, it’s a feature! ;-)

video upload by John L Rice

"I got this Free State FX 5U version of the versatile Ornament And Crime module and while everything seems to work, the fourth output has a slew/lag/portamento to it! Doesn’t matter what app or CV input is used. Could it be a calibration issue? I’m thinking that maybe a wrong value capacitor got accidentally placed in the channel 4 output circuit? I actually like the effect a lot but wish it could be turned on and off and be timing adjustable for all channels! 😅 #modularsynth #electronicmusic #modularsynthesizer"

Molchat Doma | На дне | Moog Sound Lab

video upload by Moog Music Inc

"In a recent visit to the Moog Sound Lab in Asheville, NC, Belarusian-turned-LA post-punk trio Molchat Doma performed an exclusive version of “На дне (Na Dne, At the Bottom),” the dark, danceable opening track of the band’s second studio album, 'Этажи (Etazhi).'

Formed in 2017 and currently on the coveted Sacred Bones Records roster, Molchat Doma has been a force in defining today’s new-wave renaissance. The band’s synth-pop-meets-industrial style is a seamless and authentic representation of ‘80s synth-driven sound—revived and reimagined.

In this performance of “На дне (Na Dne, At the Bottom),” the band blends warm synth leads, pulsing bass lines, and deep, droning vocals. On top of a simple, resolute drum machine beat, the artists use Moog One, Moog Grandmother, and a Novation 49SL MKIII to build the track’s melodic leads and bass.

Molchat Doma is…
Egor Shkutko: vocals
Roman Komogortsev: guitar, synths, and drum machine
Pavel Kozlov: bass and synths

"Demo of a recently serviced (and converted to 230v) Technics SY-1010 analog mono synth.
Only produced for the japanese market you don't find many out of there.
Very simple design but very nice sounding, a bit like Roland SH-101.
The VCA initial gain control, continuous oscillator pitch adjustement and fast LFO give this little synth a lot more possibilities that you would first think of.
Extremely compact and lightweight too.

Alessandro Cortini + MATTHS Rig Tour

video upload by sonicstate

"Alessandro Cortini played a rare UK gig last weekend, and regular Sonic TALK panelist Matt Hodson AKA MATTHS was booked in the support slot.

We figured it was a great opportunity to have them talk about their gear selection and approach to the performance.

Alessandro opted for something minimal to support his completely improvised approach, with two Make Noise Strega (these were designed in conjunction with Alessandro) and two 0-CTRL - sequencer/CV controllers, Strymon Blue Sky and Volante all into an Allen and Heath Zone 96 DJ mixer, the laptop runs Resolume visuals for the show.

http://cortini.bandcamp.com

Matths has a different approach basing his set around pre writtern material and re-voicing larger modular rig, with the Knobula Poly Cinematic for chords, 1010music Bit Box for triggering CV and gates, the Expert Sleepers ES-9 running from the laptop for triggers from Bitwig, the Soma Pulsar-23, Beatstep

Matt uses an analogue parallel compression path to give the stereo feed to front of house a more consistent polished sound.

Make Noise Strega Patches: Texture, Noise, Drone, Lead. Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"«Noise & Texture» is a collection of 50 patches for a semi-modular synthesizer, Make Noise Strega.
Although Strega is often seen as part of the Make Noise trio (0-Coast + 0-Ctrl + Strega), it remains an intriguing standalone synth. My goal was to explore its full potential independently, without connecting other Make Noise devices. Strega is a truly unique instrument, offering inspiration for crafting the unusual and experimental timbres.

💾 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/stre...

This collection includes lo-fi textures, drones, leads, noises, FXs, and rhythmical patches. They can take center part in a track or serve as a supporting element, creating an atmospheric background.

These presets are suitable for various genres of electronic music where experimental sound design plays a crucial role, including: Ambient, Techno, Minimal, Deep, Electronica, Drone, Industrial, Dubstep, Hardcore, Garage, Cinematic, and others.

Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.
To recreate these patches, you need up to 5 patch cords.

There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset.

In most cases, I utilize the 1V/OCT input (indicated by a black cable in the images) to send note information to Strega. There are several popular methods to achieve this:
- Using a MIDI keyboard or controller with CV output, such as the Arturia Keystep or Beatstep.
- Employing the Make Noise 0-CTRL.
- Utilizing software like Ableton (or another DAW with similar capabilities) to send CV signals via an audio interface.

You have the flexibility to choose any of these methods and play notes manually with a keyboard or use their internal arpeggiators and sequencers. In some of my audio examples, I used the internal arpeggiator of the Keystep.

If you don't have any of these devices or prefer not to use them, you can still effectively utilize the patches. In this scenario, you'll be working with a single note or pitch, which you can set using the TONIC parameter.

Don’t forget to use Touch Plates for immediate modulations and expression.

Worng Electronics - Parallax! Eurorack Stereo FIlter.

video upload by Signal Sounds

"Parallax is a stereo filter designed with a classic sound, a simple friendly interface, lots of modulation options and two flavours of output. Designed to bring your modular system into a stereo world, Parallax is a pair of filters for your left and right signals which are controlled with common stereo controls, as well as controls to skew the cutoff and resonance in the stereo field. Parallax is perfect for making synth patches from stereo sources, or for taking a mono signal and making it stereo.

A stereo signal (or mono to the left input) passes through filters based on the design of the classic Pro-One but with a number of tweaks to update the filter for modern use. in addition to the -24dB/oct outputs there are -12db/oct outputs added for a brighter, smoother sound in addition to the powerful sound four-pole sound you would expect. All outputs are available simultaneously, giving you more patching options.

SEM vs SEM - November 2023 edition

video upload by John Schussler

"The G-Storm Electro SEM VCF arrived the other day, and I figured I'd give it a listen in comparison to what, up to this point, I think is the best SEM eurorack module: the Studio Electronics SEM VCF.

(Spoiler alert: The G-Storm gives the SE a serious run for its money)

I've also thrown in the Bubblesound SEM20 and an AMSynths Obie XA. The Bubblesound is mostly SEM, but with some MS-10 bits grafted on that makes it more aggro. The Obie XA isn't a SEM at all, different chip, but is also modeled after an Oberheim filter so I figured I'd toss it in for contrast.

VCO is a Befaco Pony, first on saw then on square. Sequencer is a Clank Chaos. Envelope is Zadar.

Be forewarned: a lot of this video is me going back, and forth, and back, and forth, and back and forth between modules. Don't get seasick.

THE PLASMA VOICE by GAMECHANGER AUDIO Now Available

video upload by Gamechanger Audio

See the dealers on the right for availability.

"The PLASMA Voice is a monophonic Eurorack synthesizer module that takes Gamechanger Audio's signature PLASMA sound engine to the next level by turning the current transformer and tube driver circuit into a new type of analog high-voltage oscillator.

Its core sound is produced by sending precisely controlled electrical discharges between two electrodes within a xenon-filled gas tube.

The electromagnetic energy emitted by the discharges is then transformed into audio signal through a specially designed inductor and audio rectifier circuit. The result is a diverse range of electrifying tones that vividly capture the character and intensity of a vibrant blue electrical arc.

All sounds in the video are produced by the PLASMA Voice.

Unlike previous PLASMA products, the PLASMA Voice operates autonomously without relying on an external audio source, thus serving as a fully independent PLASMA synthesizer voice with a built-in analog VCA, VCF, EQ and DRIVE section."

"By now, everyone knows the sound of the Juno-6/60. From the mixable Sawtooth and Square wave shapes on the Oscillator, all the way through to lush stereo chorus at the end of the signal chain. Junos may not be the most complex synthesizers out there but they are almost impossible to get a bad sound out of. Basses, pads, leads, arpeggios, it can do it all. This Juno 6 may not have preset recall or a DCB port like the 60, but sounds exactly the same.

This synthesizer is in great shape over all showing some average cosmetic wear. Sounds wonderful and performs as expected."

MOE Chorus 60 with Antonus 2600 Original Size part 1

video upload by wutierson

"First part of a serie of videos showing the wonderful sound and different creative uses of the Mother On Earth Chorus 60, by far the best Juno 6/60 chorus clone in pedal format, using exactly the same components and circuitry and also adding some nice extra features and controls.

Making an awesome combo with the Antonus 2600 Original Size, replica of the ARP2600. Very noticeable how nice works this chorus with synthesizers. Is no easy to find pedals that sounds good on synthesizers rather than only in guitars and this pedal sound so nice in all terrains. It makes the lush chorus sound and at same time it works with all the complex harmonic content of the synthesizer sound with more low range frequencies, different than the other more specific guitar oriented pedals. Also it preserves the quick transient and dynamics very good considering the nature of this kind of effects and preserves the low end and high frequency definition. Also very good balance between dry and wet signals levels.

This recording is done using without extra process and sound make up, only just the sound of the 2600 and the Chorus 60.

In this first video we focus in more regular chorus uses, from the classic Juno ranges to different levels of modulation amount and speed using the controls and from time to time switching from processed to dry signals (notice the red colour at the pedal switch when effect is OFF and blue when effect is ON)

In other videos we will show the nice feature of the external CV control and feedback loop techniques.

Both Antonus and MOE are handcraft companies making high grade products with care and love. Antonus working in Barcelona and Mother on Earth working in Israel.

Both brands products are available for distribution at www.enlo-1.com shop, making easy for EU customer to purchase the MOE Chorus 60."

Buchla TipTop + Strymon Starlab // More than just blipblops

video upload by Dexba

"I wanted to be more regular with the uploads, but it turned out life always gets in the middle. But here we are: the most analog waves coming from the Buchla by TipTop Audio lineup crashing against the digital Strymon Starlab shore.
The setup is comprised of a double 258t (oscillator), one of which is producing the chords you've heard at the beginning, while the other is on modulation duty.
The main interest of the patch was going into the Starlab already in stereo, so the two channels of the 257t are used as mixers between Left Osc + Sum and the other Right Osc + Sum, in order to have stereo bouncing around more as an accent, rather than being too abrupt, all of this controlled by the S/H coming from the other oscillator going into the 266t. The infamous 292t gets to work both as a summing mixer and a normal VCA.
The extra two voices you hear (the higher one and the very low one) are from the oscillators used for the S/H process, which I tuned to be useful twice too!
Hope you'll enjoy it! 🧡"
