"We've got to get this on every track": How A Place to Bury Strangers made an LP into a DIY synth

video upload by MusicRadar Tech

User demo below.

"Between his noise rock outfit A Place To Bury Strangers – dubbed 'the loudest band in New York' – and his pedal company Death By Audio, Oliver Ackermann is no stranger to DIY noisemaking. The band's latest album, Synthesizer, takes things a step further though. Not only did Ackermann design and build his own DIY synth, which is featured on every track of the album, but the instrument's circuit design also provides the cover art for the vinyl LP, allowing fans to recreate the synth at home – albeit with a substantial amount of DIY required.

Synthesizer by A Place to Bury Strangers is out now:

Craig Padilla - Solina Movement 4 (ARP Solina String Ensemble and Source Audio Pedals Improvisation)

video upload by Craig Padilla

"This is more ambient spacemusic from the 2024 album 'SOLINA' by Craig Padilla. The improvised performance was captured live on three cameras, performed on an ARP SE-IV Electronic Music Synthesizer using COLLIDER and LUNAR effects pedals by Source Audio which run through a long decaying looper plug-in called ElotTronix XL. Everything you see and hear is performed live in the moment without any overdubs.

The ARP SE-IV String Ensemble is a classic synthesizer that was used on many albums by a variety of artists throughout the 70's. It certainly has a warm and inspiring sound which makes it so much fun to play."

video upload by atnr

"A piece created using guitar, ‪@SequentialLLC‬ Prophet-10, Rhodes MK2, and ‪@teenageengineering‬ OP-1 field. The Prophet-10 plays the melody along with the guitar harmony. The OP-1 field processes a simple rhythm with effects. The string section in the middle is produced using a VST instrument within a DAW.

The bass is recorded through SANSAMP's BASS DRIVER."

One of my favorite tracks from the 80s.
Money For Nothing by the Dire Straits from the album Brothers In Arms (1985)
Written by Mark Knopfler and Sting
The video for the song was the first to be broadcast by the music channel MTV Europe 1987.

Features the Yamaha DX7 II FM synthesizer and the E-MU Emulator II sampling synthesizer

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers."

Does it Swarm? Verbos Electronics Sawtooth Stack Demo

video upload by Stazma

"Today we go for a proper dive into the Sawtooth Stack from Verbos Electronics.

This big module (or small synth, as you prefer) is based around five discrete VCO with the signature Verbos Electronics sound, that you can detune and spread using a few carefulle tuned set of controls.

It is a full stereo synth voice with two modulation sources and a stereo VCA and you control all the parameters and play the synth via Midi wich is a first for Verbos.

Have fun!"

Redshift 6 - Super Pluck Pad

video upload by Supercritical Synthesizers

"The patch on this tweak is Redshift 6’s preset patch - SUPER PLUCK PAD.

Redshift 6 is sequenced from DAW and all the parts: lower pad, melody and chords use the same patch. Besides the DAW’s native delay (20% wet), there is no other audio effects such as compressor or limiter."

Elektron Analog RYTM MK II - Doing even MORE with this thing!!!

video upload by eM

"Switching back to RYTM. If you have one of these, you'll find where single handedly playing with it, forces you to squeeze so much excellence out of it. I'm still barely touching the surface of this thing, but i am having loads of fun... just getting the sheer fun out of a drum machine such as this does the justice I need. (sorry there was a slight audio glitch at 3:52 :-{ )

What's challenging for me, is going from using a Digitakt, the way the patterns are performed there, is very different when doing it on the RYTM. Whatever you change or alter, when you go to a different patter, it keeps the same kit. All of the same parameter changes you have done, if you haven't changed the kit, it will basically carry into the next pattern. Kinda forces you to perceive outside of the Digitakt box. Still heaps of fun though! Enjoy!"
