POLIVOKS VCF CLONE - (DUAL POLIVOKS FILTER, ANALOG STEREO FILTER) - 2 ORIGINAL POLIVOKS VCF'S with 2 LFO GENERATORS, 2 NOISE GENERATORS, 2 CV INPUTS.

Two Polivoks VCF's in one little black box. Extremely aggressive sound, easy to overload, unstable at high Q values, self-oscillating.

The filters circuits is identical to the original design and uses the exact same schematic as the Polivoks synthesizer. The filter-box based on the new old stock soviet integrated circuits, not Western "equivalents".

Manual and voltage-controlled cutoff frequency for each filter, manual control of resonance for each filter. One noise generator for each filter and one LFO for each filter.Low and bandpass mode for each filter.

The signal path is: VCF1 AUDIO OUT to VCF2 AUDIO IN. I played with "Dual Polivoks Filter" LIVE like with the real analog synth in this video!"

Polivoks Clone Limited to 100 Units & A Note From Creators Alex Pleninger & Alexey Taber

The new Polivoks clone from Alex Pleninger is now available for order, and for auction on the official site for the new synth. The units will be limited to 100 units. The starting price if you go the auction route? $1850. The buy it now price? A whopping $4000. Before you blame the creators Alex Pleninger and Alexey Taber, Pleninger asked me to post the following for them. BTW, it's worth noting $1850 for a brand new Polivoks is only slightly more than just half of a new Minmoog Model D, and that's for a limited run of only 100 synths. The $4000 BIN is a cap to ensure it does not cost anyone more than that, so technically they are limiting themselves, not the buyer. If it were auction only, the price could theoretically go above that and technically there is nothing forcing the price to hit $4k.

It's rare that we see a message like this, so thanks to Alex for sending this in. One thing to consider, is the number of units is limited to 100 so the high price will make the decision for many to skip one easier. Not to mention, there are still originals out there.

"I just got done putting a Polivoks filter together on a breadboard and thought some folks might like to hear how it sounds. The filter is from Marc Bareille's adaptation and sounds like drinking vodka through broken lips and teeth must feel! A big thanks to Marc for all his help. I will be posting full details of the project with some additional adaptations that Marc told me about to use some hard to get parts. I'm thinking I need about 4 of these in my rig." "The thing has *no* caps in the filter and has a very strange resonance characteristic as a side effect. At extreme settings instead of producing a sine wave, it makes a squarish wave and eventual kind of craps out as you can hear.

The patch was just three saws running in and then out through a vca. There was *no* distortion added or sync on the osc. All that grunge is from the filter itself. I wouldn't want one as my only filter but I got to tell you, this thing is wonderful. I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm building 4 of them for my rig. Processing drums with these is lovely."

"It took me a few years to find all these modules on the used market, but I managed to put together a Eurorack Polivoks clone. All 5 modules are from The Harvestman (Industrial Music Electronics) and were designed by Scott Jaeger in conjunction with Vladimir Kuzmin (the designer of the original Polivoks synthesizer). This modules are housed in a 4MS Pod48X. The original Polivoks synthesizers were made from 1982-1990 by the Formanta radio factory in Russia. They are sought after for their unique sound that came from the Soviet-made electronic components."

"For some reason you don't see much talk about doing stuff like this. For this demonstration, I'm running a guitar through various modules on my Eurorack system before sending it to the amp. In all cases, the guitar is a Schecter Avenger 7, the amp is a Schecter Hellraiser Stage 100, the mic is an SM57, and the preamp is an Eleven Rack. For most of these sounds, the clean channel was used. No post-processing effects were used. The order of the modules being used is as followed (also see corresponding picture.)

Circuit uses LM4250 Programmable OP Amps. Runs on 12VDC, has a single output and a LFO rather then CV control. Controls include: Resonance ( "Q"), FM Range for the LFO, Signal Cutoff and LFO Frequency. Input audio signal is from a modified APC.

"I finished a prototype of this filter and have the pcb laid out already. It is a matter of meeting my budget to have these made. Most likely it will be released late November early december.
Here's the Info.
-it will be self powered and an External VCF for your Modular or DJ/VSt/VA filtering purposes. it will come with a Wall wart plug.
-it has Line Level boosters so if you plug in a 'low' level signal it has a Gain Knob to amplify it. If you do that to a high Synth Level signal you will make a cool distorted signal. It is possible to plug in a guitar direct and amplify.
-there will be 2 of those Boosters and they will have an final 'input' Knob to fine tune Distorted (just the way you want it)sound going into the VCF and Attenuate. Otherwise if you cranked the GAIN all the way it would be over kill sound going direct to the vcf with no way to adjust it. The whole sound input thing was all well thought out.
-it will have (1) onboard LFO, a slim down version of the TOAD lfo.
-I figured out a REZ HACK FOR THIS TOO! there will be 2 switches to give you different flavors of the unique Rez on this thing.
-all the inputs/outputs wil be 1/4" phono
-it will look like the same design as the Toad (lexan and wood) and be called a 'the Tadpole VCF'.
-The size is a little smaller than a DR670 drum machine.
-I have to build one from the final PCB and see about parts/etc before I decide on a price. The goal is to sell it less then 200.00
**Here's more happy news: I got all worked up about this external vcf idea and already have an EMS VCF clone laid out also But I only managed to cram the VCF only, no onboard LFO"
