I document the first sound from a Nord Modular G1 emulator. The original G1 operating system runs on an emulated 68331 processor and loads its programs on four emulated DSP56303s, with the same kernel that Gearmulator uses for the Nord Lead 2X. The Animatek NME editor connects via PC Port and loads patches with oscillators, a mixer, and filters onto the virtual G1. And just like with the hardware, I close the editor, the synth continues playing, and when I open it again, it retrieves the patch.
This is a snapshot of the development process, bugs and all: clicks, filters that aren't working yet, unfinished clocks and sequencers, and empty banks. The emulator isn't released yet, and no ROMs are being distributed. This is episode 1 of the emulator's development diary. I'll upload a new one whenever there's a noticeable improvement.

The new virtual module is a software adaptation of VAEMI’s physical R2R Ladder Eurorack module, preserving the original hardware’s bidirectional architecture and core musical concept. The plug-in is available free of charge through the official VCV Library.

Through his synthesizer work, Terry founded a laser light show company called Laser Artistry in 1976. The company operated as one of America's elite laser show outfits until its final performance on December 31, 1999.

"A few years ago I restored my childhood Amiga 500, and only recently found a way to use a soft synth, Aegis Sonix V2, with external MIDI control. I saw @magicalsynthadventure3216 video on the topic a while back, and on a whim decided to revisit the idea of using my Amiga as a synth. Update: An interesting side note is that Sonix was released in 1987 with a beta in 1986. That's 10 years earlier than Dave Smith's Seer Systems Reality, which was released in 1997. Seer Systems Reality is often credited as the world's first soft synth. "Here's a video of the recording of the A-side for my new single (links to all formats below). It was was recorded on an Yamaha MT-50 four track tape recorder (a solidly underrated recorder, with an advantage over various more popular Portastudio models in that you can record on all 4 tracks simultaneously, rather than just 2 at once) with a Yamaha DX21 (bass, chords and FX), Novation Ultranova (additional chord layers) and Yamaha RX5 (drums). Synchronisation between tape (which had the chord layers bounced down to 2 tracks to free up tracks) and MIDI used to sequence the bass and drums was achieved using a Yamaha YMC10 MIDI clock to tape-synch converter (solid little converter). Reverb was provided by an Alesis MIDIverb II (an FX unit that needs no introduction) and chorus for the bass via a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus - my favourite chorus, to me it just sounds how chorus should sound (this particular one is a vintage ‘made in Japan’ model, so fully analogue compared to later digital CH-1 models, and just sounds super warm). It was mixed on MT-50 but also with a venerable Peavey Unity Series 2000-16 (for submixes and sends etc.), this mixer has a flavour all of it’s own, certainly not high fidelity, but kinda gritty and warm and just kinda ‘Peavey’… The track is out now for stream and download, hope you folks dig the track 🙂

The new ZEN-Core Editor Librarian V2.0 (PC and MAC) is now available for Roland synthesizers from the Fantom, AX-Edge, and Jupiter-X/Xm.
Among many new features, it allows editing of a new synthesis engine, fully compatible with the ZEN-Core standard, which uses linear FM synthesis (4 operators) and 4 modulable operator waveshapes
The "B67 ZEN FM" synthesis engine is achieved through a special implementation of a ZEN-Core tone that allows access to only a limited number of synthesis parameters, leaving the others predefined and inaccessible (e.g., Structure 1-2/3-4 = XMOD2, Osc Type = VA).
Specifically, the modulation matrix is "locked" with predefined Source and Destination parameters to ensure correct modulations that operate on the main FM synthesis parameters.
Real-time editing is performed on a new page containing all the synthesis parameters, the operator frequencies settable via the freq. ratio parameter (0.25, 0.5, 0.78, 1, 1.5, 1.57, 1.78, 2, 3, 3.5, 4.5, etc.), the waveforms (SIN, SIN2, TRI, TRI2, TRI3, SAW, SQR, RAMP, JUNO), the graphic display of the 8 envelopes (4 for FM and 4 for shapes), a dedicated librarian (2048 sounds), 20 tone presets, 8 ENV presets, a clipboard, and the ability to copy and paste synthesis parameters.
Each sound is associated with one of the 93 MFX multi-effects, which can be edited in the dedicated section.
By applying waveshaping to the 4 operators' waveforms (via the FAT and PW parameters) and modulating them with 4 dedicated ENVs, the synthesis engine can replicate the phase distortion (PD) synthesis famous in Casio CZ synths.
When using sine wave oscillators and modulating their PW with the dedicated ADSR ENVs, the overall synthesis structure becomes similar to that of an 8-operator FM algorithm, as shown in the image: 4 operators (1, 2, 3, and 4) can have their frequencies freely configured, while the other 4 modulate the corresponding carriers and modulators with a 1:1 ratio.
Polyphony is 22 voices for all synthesizers, pianos, keyboards, wind instruments, guitar synths, and virtual instruments compatible with the ZEN-Core standard. This is reduced to 11 voices for the MC-101, MC-707, and VERSELAB MV-1 grooveboxes.
Simplified graphical editing of all parameters, sound management via the librarian, and parameter recall for subsequent editing is only possible with the ZEN-Core Editor Librarian V2.0.
The new B67 ZEN-Core Collection 3 (197 ZEN-Core tones in total) is also available, including 112 tones created with the "B67 ZEN-FM" synthesis engine.
Thanks to full compatibility with the ZEN-Core standard, these sounds can be used on all compatible instruments and virtual instruments: Zenology Pro, Zenbeats (ZC-1), FP-E50, RD-88, RD-08, Juno-D, Juno-X, V-Stage, MC-101, MC-707, Verselab MV-1, GM-800, Aerophone AE-20 Pro AE-30, GO:KEYS 5, GO:KEYS 3.
Along with the collection, the sounds with the B67 ZEN-FM synthesis engine also come with a proprietary file format that can be edited and managed within the Editor/Librarian V2.0 section, available for Fantom, AX-Edge, and Jupiter-X/Xm.
Among the various sounds in the collection, created with this synthesis, are emulations of some "classic" Yamaha DX7 sounds (Marimba, Vibe, Celesta, Bakket, Jazz Guitar, Tubular Bell, EPiano, Bowed Strings, Brass, Synth Bass, Metal, etc.) and original sounds that use FM and Wave Shape synthesis for new sounds with complex and evolving harmonic spectra.
The upgrade to version 2.0 of the ZEN-Core Editor Librarian for Fantom, AX-Edge, and Jupiter-X is free (it can be found in the Gumroad repository or through the paywall of those who purchased it).
Collection 3 (197 ZEN-Core tones, including 112 created with the B67 ZEN-FM synthesis engine) is available individually, in the "best of" version, and bundled with other collections and editors.

This plug-in features the original 32 waveforms, allowing it to faithfully recreate the complex, evolving, and richly textured sounds of the 1986 ESQ-1 in software form. Additionally, it comes with advanced features designed for today's musicians and producers. Its elegant design incorporates extensive modulation options, rhythmic pattern generation, and enhanced performance capabilities through polyphonic aftertouch and MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). Ensoniq ESQ-1 also features a library of nearly 400 exceptional presets, including the original factory presets from the hardware, highlighting the best of both classic and all-new sounds.
In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Cherry Audio partnered with Creative Technology, the current owner of the Ensoniq intellectual property, to obtain official licensing for the original 32 ESQ-1 waveforms for this release. Equally important, we meticulously emulated the sonic signature and behavior of the original hardware's legendary analog filters provided by the renowned CEM 3379 IC. We also precisely recreated its four DCAs, four independent multistage envelopes, three LFOs, amplitude modulation, oscillator sync, and expanded its modulation system. Its accuracy is such that the ESQ-1 software supports drag-and-drop import of individual patches and patch banks from ESQ-1 SysEx files, or directly via MIDI from the hardware. Additionally, the software can export SysEx patch files that are compatible with the original hardware."
