Lux 🔆 (Erica Synths LXR-02 + Oto Boum Compressor // Ableton Move 1.5 // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"2 minutes, no warning! 🥳
In this video, I really wanted to make use of the 1.5 new features of the Ableton Move like sequencing the different tracks of the Move from another sequencer (Keystep Pro here) and its new Auto Filter effect 🤩 (I was really waiting for these 2 updates!).

So the track starts with DRUMS played and sequenced by the LXR-02, through the Oto Machines Boum stereo analog compressor.
I then introduce the Move by opening the new Auto Filter effect.
The Move is playing some secondary percussions (Track 1), the BASS (Track 2, sequenced by Track 2 of the Keystep Pro), the ARP (Track 3 of the Move, sequenced by Track 3 of the Keystep Pro) and the CHORDS (Track 4 of the Move, sequenced by Track 4 of the Keystep Pro).

So with this setup, I was able to transpose in real-time the instruments played by the Move 😃

Hardware used *

Confrontation / #analogsynthesizer session #soundscape #retrosound

video upload by RandomVoltage

"The idea here was to connect and play three mono Synthesizer together to achieve a big soundscape with different timbre…
I quickly realised a few problems:
Biggest issue is my ability to play in the first place 😆
Timming and velocity feel much better when not recording though

Well after several times trying to record a couple minutes that’s best i came up with before abounding this patch

Definitely will keep practising

Setup

#arturia #keystep connected to cv/gate or midi to
#arp2600 #moogmother32 #moogsubharmonicon

Arp2600 - 3 OSC Bass drone
Subharmonicon - Pad Sound
Mother32 - Lead voice (still able to play notes only with mother keys or transpose)"

'Two Voices' Track recording with AJH Synth MiniMod Eurorack system

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"This was a real-time recording using a 3-VCO, 2 VCF modular system divided into 2 analogue synth voices. I used this system to record 5 tracks for a Bandcamp album, as performances without any overdubbing, yet using a modest amount of modules and gear:

The AJH SYNTH MiniMod system is an authentic recreation of the early R.A. Moog version of the Minimoog synthesiser, whilst some of the other other modules are also based on classic vintage synths. Because of this they can easily fill up a sound space with big, rich and characterful tones. This made them the ideal choice for a recording such as this. Without consciously setting out to do so, this particular track was more inspired by Arvo Pärt and the late Henryk Górecki than anything else.

Modules used:
Vintage Transistor Core VCO x3
Transistor Ladder Filter
Contour Generators
Discrete Cascaded VCA x2
Ring SM
Wave Swarm
Gemini 2412 (dual SEM filter)
Muting Mixer & VCA
Precision Voltages

Controllers:
Arturia Keystep 32
Doepfer Dark Time sequencer

Last Pill 💊 (Nymphes + Deco2 // S1 + H90 // Drumbrute Impact + H90 + Pill // Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"Here's a long video to end 2024 on a high note! 😁 If you want to skip the 'build from scratch', you can jump to 2:00 😉

3 instruments were used for this track:
The Dreadbox Nymphes for the CHORDS and LEAD
The Roland S-1 for the BASS
The Arturia Drumbrute Impact (DBI) for the DRUMS
With everything sequenced by the Arturia Keystep Pro (KSP).

1- The video starts with me recording in STEP mode 3 CHORDS, and setting the pattern's length to 3 steps (Track 3 of the KSP).
2- I then record 2 notes for a 3-step pattern for the BASS (Track 2 of the KSP).
3- I quickly switch to the DRUM pattern recording (Track 1 of the KSP), where I used some of the nice features of the KSP's sequencer (Time Shift, Randomness)
4- For the live performance, it's mainly me transposing in real-time on the KSP and playing with the sound parameters of the 3 instruments (Cutoff, Decay, Reverb etc.).

0:01 Recording the different parts
1:51 Build
2:06 Drop
2:36 Looper break
3:13 Full decay on the KICK
3:25 Opening the decay on the OPEN HIHAT
4:05 Outro"

Motor Synth MkII and Synthstrom Deluge | downtempo synth performance

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

Full disclosure: Walrus sent me along the R1 MkII for free. I'm a big fan of their Slöer pedal and also really like the Meraki (both of which I bought with my own money), so I was happy to give the R1 MkII a spin. It's a decent workhorse pedal with full stereo, some cool algorithms (including a sort of granular-delay-reverb thing), and an easy interface. I think the Slöer is still the better pedal if you're choosing based on character/personality, but if you need versatility and a small footprint, the R1 MkII might be for you. I look forward to exploring it more!

Once again, the incredible Miles Away leant me some of his gear to try out. This time, it's the Motor Synth MkII. It's hard to justify at the price point and with a technology that is less known in terms of longevity, and it certainly has some quirks that won't be for some. But man alive, the Motor Synth sounds absolutely incredible: warbly, rich, binaural, capable of mellow lofi ambient all the way up to overdriven bananas cyberpunk. It's incredible.

Check out Miles Away's exploration of the Motor Synth MkII here, and be sure to check out the second jam (heavy industrial electro): • Is This The Most Unique Synth EVER???... [posted here]

Here, I leveraged the mellower side of the Motor Synth and paired it with the Deluge, which is a natural fit in terms of complementary sounds. The R1 MkII was the reverb on the Motor Synth and also was a perfect fit; there's something about the R1's algorithms that makes the good for fitting in a mix. And to glue the Deluge sound together and add a little more personality, I added the Chroma Console doing saturation, doubling, delay, and tape.

Thanks for listening.

Gamechanger Audio Motor Synth MkII into Walrus R1 MkII - Main synth, played on keyboard, with reverb

'Creepy Soundtrack 15' - Yamaha CS-15 + Arturia Keystep 2 Voice,1 Synth Jam

video upload by DreamsOfWires

"The Yamaha CS-15 has two complete synth voices, so here I'm using the Hz/Volts mode of the ‪@ArturiaOfficial‬ Keystep to control one voice, and the synth keyboard to control the other. This time I'm channeling my affection for 70s/80s horror movie soundtracks (again), particulary John Carpenter, although I've missed Halloween by a few days.
Using the two voices independently reduces the sonic possibilities of the synth, and they share a single audio output, but it can be quite fun to see what can be squeezed out of a single vintage synth of the 1970's.
As a single monophonic synth the CS-15 is very unique and surprisingly flexible, as it has two of almost everything (2x VCO, multi-mode VCF, ADSR, VCA), but only one LFO, and the otherwise independent voices (both of which have their own CV & Gate inputs) are both routed to the same audio outputs (high & low), which is a bit of a bummer.
Anyway, I don't suppose it was intended to replace two single oscillator monosynths, and this is from the late 70's, so it's a pretty killer design when viewed in context. I can imagine it being super-useful in a minimal, early synthpop band on a budget."

"Dream of the Mystic Mist" live synth jam w Perkons, Keystep Pro, Take 5, Plaits, Atlantis, XPO

video upload by Tim Grogan

"Synth jam from 10-22-24, performed and recorded live into Pro Tools with no overdubs.

I'm sort of pulsating all around my rig and just full of joy and possibilities performing this. I get swept away quite honestly and just in the moment with the tones and sequences I've set up. 3 basic scenes in this one but lots of variations and options within each one.

Still getting to know the #ericasynths Perkons and I'm really enjoying the sounds and the workflow of it. I'm using the direct outs for each of the 4 voices to record them individually for mix control and adding a touch of reverb and delay (plug-ins) to a couple of the voices.

Main sequence from #arturia Keystep Pro playing the #intellijel Atlantis complete synth voice and a counter sequence playing the #mutableinstruments Plaits. I'm using a #sequentialcircuits Take 5 to manually play a pad created by ‪@GEOSynths‬ called Exodus, with a couple of small tweaks.

I'm also using a #makenoisemusic XPO through their QPAS filter, then through a #4ms dual envelope/filter and finally processed through a #qubitelectronix Nautilus for some cool delay fx.

This jam opens with a sample on the Morphagene I made by recording a little short cue I made in Pro Tools using Arturia Pigments, then recorded that as a splice into Morphagene and triggering its playback from the Keystep Pro."

2. u-he Wiretap – Part 1: The Basics
Wiretap: Our new gate/trigger generator that tracks your CVs and creates rhythmic patterns to match! Inserted into V/Oct paths, Wiretap can generate 3 different trigger signals for each of the 2 channels (it can play two voices). Each channel also includes a practical hold-release envelope. Despite all this functionality, Wiretap is only 6HP wide! The ideal partner for any pitch CV source that doesn't have a gate output.

3. u-he Wiretap – Part 2: Musical Examples (no talking)
Let's take a deep dive and pair Wiretap with other CV generating modules: Complex LFOs, quantized pitch CVs (from sequencers or keyboards) and manually created CVs (from Pressure Points, joysticks or mod wheels for example).

00:00 - Patch 1: complex LFOs (Make Noise DPO)
02:34 - Patch 2: quantized pitch CV (Arturia Keystep)
04:25 - Patch 3: manual CV (Intellijel Planar)
4. u-he Wiretap – Part 3: Jumpers & Special Tricks
Wiretap has a couple of surprises under the hood: Two special modes which can be activated by a set of jumpers on the back of the module. First, the clocked operation mode (using input 2 or the gate bus for triggered operation). Then there’s the hold mode, which generates gates that last through the entirety of an event. We’ll also take a look at how Wiretap retriggers when gates are longer. Lastly, we’ll feed Wiretap with audio-rate signals and marvel at the glitchy results!

INORI by SERGE Modular - 10 Patches

"After the walktrhough of the panel a few weeks ago, we go back to the INORI panel, this time for ten short pieces, to give you a idea of it's sonic range.

Spoiler alert: it's HUGE.

I've used some occasional modules from the MANTRA panel below, usualy the Sequencer.

PS: when you see some vibration on the screen during the video it's not an effect that I add, it's the bass that shake my camera stand ;-)

Have fun!"
