"'King Beat' Rhythm-Matic R2000 Drum Machine Vintage - Wood Finish. Likely distributed through Sears. Fully functional with a killer sound. Interesting low end that sounds killer distorted and smashed with compression. All patterns work with consistent tempo. The metronome sounds like a bass drum which is useful. Fun and straightforward machine."

SPHERICAL SOUND SOCIETY Introduces OMNICYCLONE - A Generative FM Beat Machine

Launching OMNICYCLONE. A Generative FM Beat Machine video upload by SPHERICAL SOUND SOCIETY

"OMNICYCLONE is a unique take on generative synthesizers. It's primarily focused on percussive phrases, but it can also create melodic content.

At its core lies a Yamaha OPL2 emulator that has been extensively modified to achieve things the original chips couldn't – like a fully stereo image and a complete revamp of sonic possibilities.

We've taken some of the most interesting features from WINTERMUTE, expanded the emulator further, and hybridized them with OPERA ROTAS features to birth a new generative beast that sounds surprisingly retro and modern at the same time.

You can order Omnicyclone here:

"OMNICYCLONE is a unique take on generative synthesizers. It's primarily focused on percussive phrases, but it can also create melodic content.

At its core lies an OPL2 emulator that has been extensively modified to achieve things the original Yamaha chips couldn't – like a fully stereo image. Some Yamaha chips of that era only offered hard-panned stereo (just center, left, or right). OMNICYCLONE provides 256 possible stereo positions, which sounds probably awesome.

We've taken some of the most interesting features from WINTERMUTE, expanded the emulator further, and hybridized them with OPERA ROTAS features to birth a new generative beast that sounds surprisingly retro and modern at the same time.

In this new incarnation, we've added volume bars for each channel, providing a clearer visual understanding of what's happening under the hood.

The synth is controlled by 2 banks of parameters, plus a fully-featured global LFO and global parameters for controlling each of the ADSR stages. It also includes a variety of new generative strategies that are explained in the manual.

OMNICYCLONE runs on the Fluorine hardware, meaning you can flash Fluorine's other firmwares (there are 4 different ones to choose from) in addition to the OMNICYCLONE firmware. This gives you multiple synths in one piece of hardware.

There's also a new firmware that turns the Fluorine hardware into a USB MIDI Controller with 2 banks of potentiometers. This means you essentially have multiple synths plus a MIDI controller in one device

The OMNICYCLONE firmware is closed source. Existing Fluorine users can order the digital files to easily switch between their other Fluorine firmwares and the OMNICYCLONE firmware. The USB MIDI Controller firmware is also free for Fluorine users, but the OMNICYCLONE firmware has a small fee to support its development.

ELI CompuRhythm CR-7030

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Playlist:

1. ELI CR-7030 Beat Box Analog Drum Machine Demo by Daniel’s Electronics
This is supposedly a clone of the Roland CR-78, however functionally it is closer to the CR-68. It has no programming ability and the sounds, while good, are not as varied as the CR-78. The demo includes some slight reverb effect.
2. ELI CR-7030 Drum machine Beatbox demo by Momtnz
Rare ELI CR-7030 CompuRhythm drum machine. This unit was also badged as a Gemini and Ness unit. The CR-7030 and nearly three hundred other preset pattern drum machines can be found in the recently released book RHYTHM MACHINES, out now on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

(AUG 2018) RHYTHM MACHINES 2 - The 1980s Drum Computers is released! Written by Alex Graham. The most comprehensive book on 1980s Programmable drum machines out there, over 200 fact filled ALL COLOUR pages...Available only on AMAZON.COM and AMAZON.CO.UK.

Rhythm machines – the precursor to what we in the modern age refer to as a drum machine. This book documents the emergence of the preset pattern electronic rhythm instruments that (for a time) were used as a viable alternative to the drummer. Contained within are the Rhythmates, Rhythm Aces, Rhythm Boxes, Rhythmers, Rhythm Kings, Rhythm Masters, Donca Matics, Mini Pops and many more. Nearly three hundred rhythm instruments are documented here, with over two hundred pictures and information provided on their country of origin, instrument sounds, patterns and features. The book is a ‘must have’ for collectors, vintage instrument enthusiasts and recording artists.

For information on purchasing this unique book, follow the link here:

Rhythm Machines: The rise and fall of the presets

(Jan 2018) Also available, the newly released book RHYTHM MACHINES III (3) - From Decline To Retro Designs by author ALEX GRAHAM, now found on Amazon.com (USD$26.95) and Amazon.co.uk (19.95 GBP). The book has 150 full colour pages and covers information (with photographs) on all commercially released drum machines released from 1990-2017, featuring Akai, Korg, MFB, Jomox, Elektron, Roland, Zoom, Yamaha and many others including Cheetah, Arturia and Dave Smith Electronics/Linn etc.

Rhythm Machines III: From Decline To Retro Designs

3. ELI Compu Rhythm drum machine quick demo by Momtnz
"ELI CR-7030 Compu Rhythm demonstration. Preset box clearly modelled on the Roland CR-68/78 but manufactured shortly afterwards in Taiwan. Good to see an adjustable power option 110/240v selecter fitted. Has an interesting 'Rolling' feature that provides a fill-in pattern to break up the monotony of the preset patterns. In truth there are only three or four patterns that are that great and useable (Rock, Disco etc.). And the ''Guiro' field full of crickets sound is annoying to most but is easy to cancel out. For more information on rhythm boxes why not check out either the all-colour Rhythm Machines book by Alex Graham [links above], or the black and white (cheaper) version called Drumfax 1. Both are available on most Amazon sites."

"Very rare vintage analog drum machine from the late 70’s it has a very similar sound to the CR line of drum machines from Roland, very good condition for its age minimal scuff marks and scratches around the case. Everything seems to be functioning as it should, volume knob and balance knob are a bit scratchy I’m sure it can benefit from a good cleaning.

Believed to be the first unit to use the term 'Beatbox' and"Compurhythm'-little info on this unit can be found but either ELI copied Roland or vice versa."

Hillwood HR-2 Super Variation - drum machine SN 770349

via this Reverb listing

You can find demos of one in this previous post.

"This Hillwood Super Variation is a unique and rare rhythm machine that blends fully analog drum sounds with clever digital features for a truly distinctive playing experience.

The analog circuitry delivers punchy, vintage percussion, while the rhythm patterns are stored on an IC chip—resulting in surprisingly complex and musical grooves. A built-in LED beat counter adds a nice visual touch during playback.

One of its coolest features: you can trigger multiple rhythms simultaneously for wild, layered beats. You can also selectively mute individual drum sounds for more dynamic control.

Start the rhythm either by touching the metal pad on top or via an external footswitch (not included). This unit runs on 220V."

ellitone instruments' groov-e device #01

video upload by ellitone instruments

via ellitone instruments

the ellitone groov-e firmware v1.0 is a fun and mysterious interactive drum-machine and polyphonic-synthesizer engine that automatically generates musical “grooves”

A “groove” consists of 3 individual sound layers: a drum-machine layer, an ambience-sample layer, and a synthesizer sequence layer. Each of these 3 sound layers can be individually tweaked and swapped to find the right mixture of sounds to make you say “WHOAH, that’s funky!”

The magic behind the groov-e firmware lies within the sequencing and rhythm creation engines. Rhythms and note sequences are NOT simply selected from a list of premade patterns, groov-e generates one-of-a-kind rhythms and note patterns using a series of decision-trees and probabilities. A NEARLY INFINITE number of possible note patterns and rhythm combinations are possible. To make things even more mysterious, these one-of-a-kind note patterns and rhythms are all temporary. Once you make the decision to generate a new drum pattern or synth sequence, the old pattern is gone FOREVER! The temporary nature of the grooves you discover makes them precious. You will NEVER hear the same combination of sounds twice while using this device. Cherish your grooves!

"Hey everybody, this video is a dream come true as we are going to do something I’ve been wanting to do since I was a broke teenager back in the day: build an Original 90s Dance Music Production Setup including synths, drum machine, recording gear and sequencer.

All the equipment we will be using for making music today was brought to the market before the year 2000 and while you might be longing for the workflows of these seemingly simpler times - be careful what you wish for.

TX–6 OS update 1.3.0

TX–6 is our battery-powered ultra portable pro-mixer and multi-functional audio interface with 6 stereo channels, or 12 if you split them to mono. great for quick setups on the go or in your studio. packed with features like effects, midi, usb recording, beat detection, an instrument tuner, synth, sequencer, drum machine, and much more.

user configurable sequencer patterns
alongside the 22 factory-loaded patterns, the TX–6 now supports six additional
user-configurable sequencer pattern slots. each of these allows for per-step pitch assignment, making it possible to compose custom melodic sequences.

Exploring the Roland TR77 / Roland Rhythm 77

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"We thought we'd make a video before shipping out this beautiful drum machine.

It's one of our very favourites: it holds lots under the hood, it's a joy to play around with and the variety of rhythms and poly-rhythms frankly seems kind of endless.

The 2 and 4 beat section, which is a matrix of independent patterns, is a a cool and unique add-on that Roland incorporated in a few of its very early drum machines.

The individual drum-sound volume-controls gives you just enough sound sculpting possibilities to not care that the machines is not programmable.

The drum sounds themselves are wonderful, woody and organic awhile at the same time analog and electronic."

SN 458139 via this Reverb listing

"A favorite : Roland Rhythm 77 or TR 77 or the poor man’s CR78 but in our opinion the TR77 sounds better.

It also has individual volume controls for kick, hi-hats, snare and the guiro, an adjustable Fade out function - plus a separate, independent second rhythm section on a dial - as well as the possibility to play multiple rhythms at the same time.

Please check video of another unit we had available.

The Roland 77 has more features, sounds and rhythms than the similar-looking Acetone-branded drum machine.

This unit is in excellent condition, front panel looks almost new - but it has a small peel damage on the side panel visible in one of the photos.

220 V with Italian 3 prong connector - easily changeable to any connector"

Beat Friend Drum Machine Demo

video upload by audio.computer

"Beat Friend is a benevolent, semi-autonomous analogue drum machine. It wants to help."

"Beat Friend is the first offering from audio.computer, a UK-based duo making ‘benevolent, semi-autonomous music machines’. Beat Friend is an analogue drum machine, using circuits based on the ‘twin-t’s from the legendary Roland CR-78. Each drum has a slider that changes the drum’s complexity within one of the 30+ preset patterns, which already allows hundreds of variations on any given beat.

But wait! There’s more! Turning the Enthusiasm knob allows Beat Friend to add or subtract notes from the pattern as it sees fit, either keeping the pulse of the pattern or going completely off piste. It's like having an enthusiastic robot Labrador playing a 70's electronic drum kit just for you.

All the sounds are routed through a Triforce of digital and analogue effects, which...well, you just have to turn knobs to find out what they do. If you’ve ever wanted to base a track on a 7/8 samba through a bit-and sample crusher, then this is the unit for you.

And, sure, if you’re a control freak who absolutely must design every bar, you can control the drums individually via MIDI. It even includes a letterpress-printed manual, numbered to match your unit.

Beat Friend plays in glorious mono and is powered by a universal 12V power supply (included in the box)."

Superbooth 2025 // ERICA SYNTHS HEX DRUMS // DEMO at the ERICA BOOTH

video upload by LESINDES

"Superbooth 2025 // ERICA SYNTHS HEX DRUMS // DEMO at the ERICA BOOTH
The HexDrum has 10 sound sources, mostly based on the great sounding Hexinverter Mutant series of percussion modules: two kick drums for different (or combined) flavours – the BD9 and Bass drum, an optimized Mutant Machine, Snare drum, Clap, Rimshot and HiHats. To complete the setup, Erica Synths Cymbals are added, featuring 10 sets of crash and ride cymbal samples. All drums have individual outputs and for the master section they are panned in the stereo field before being sent into the Compressor and Master Drive, derived from the Mutant Glue. A special feature is the kick drum-controlled sidechain that can be used to animate drum patterns on the beat.

Elka Rhythm-Machine - Ultra Rare Analog Drum Machine made in Italy in 1975!

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this Reverb listing

You can find a demo of one here.

"Super rare, mid-70s Italian gem! Great rhythms and independent control of the volume of the sounds (as with the Elka Drummer One) make it useful as well as a curiosity.

It has 16 types of rhythms that can be combined (maximum of 2 together at a time):

• Slow R. • Waltz • Tango • March • Paso D. • Swing • Rock • R. Blues • Shake • Afro • Beguine • Samba • Mambo • Rhumba • Cha Cha • Bossa N.

The front panel includes 2 main controls: Volume and Tempo Speed.

Then 8 sound generators are built in, these are: Bass Drum, Conga, Bongo 1, Bongo 2, Claves, Snare Drum, Maracas, Cymbal. To adjust the overall sound-balance an eight-channel mixer is provided. This is where the machine comes into its own, the percussion simulation is excellent!

In many ways this is a smaller version of the Elka Drummer One, and a stand-alone of the beat boxes Elka were building into their organs at the time. It's all analogue and the sounds are certainly in the same vein as the Drummer One, if not identical, and, as with other Elkas, the superior rhythm programming is again in evidence.

Super collector’s item! Due to the small number of units made and their limited distribution area, at present it’s really difficult to find one of these small pieces of vintage drum machine.

The Rhythm-Machine is super rare, even in Italy - which is its country of origin - you can’t find one like this! If you buy it, you are going to have in your hands a real treasure!"

Vermona ER 9, in Collectors Condition w/ Extras

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by andykwiatkowski

via this Reverb listing

"I have this beautiful Vermona ER 9 drum machine for sale. It's in perfect collector's conditions. Case, guarantee, users manual, cable 5 din to jack included.

Pure analog sound. Everything works. One thing is the cowbell sound makes constant high pitch noise. It's quite common in these machines and easily fixable.

All sounds have individual volume control (like a KR-55 or Elka Drummer One), but rhythms can be combined by pressing multiple buttons, and (unlike for example the 60s/70s Roland beat boxes) when you press in one button the others do not pop out – so you can gradually layer up rhythms or remove them one by one from the mix."
