RMIF OPUS - Unique synth pulsations

video upload by LFOstore

"The RMIF Opus (РМИФ Oпус) is a rare analogue string machine/synthesizer made in Riga, Latvia by the Riga Musical Instrument Factory (RMIF) in the year 1988.

The sound range is five octaves and the instrument consists of 4 sections — piano, that synthesizes piano like lead soundings of different timbres, analog string machine, that plays wonderful string sounds with soft attack and with the possibility to control release, tremolo and the pereodically repeated beat-fading sounds.

A flexible bass section, that is controlled by 2 lower octaves, that contain three 8' and two 16' registers.

The Opus is based on divide-down technology with a master oscillator and has very nice multimode filter (LPF, BPF and HPF with resonance), a fantastic chorus, ring modulator, vibrato and a lot other features."

How to Start Tracks: Fourm + Microcosm into Digitakt 2

video upload by Sineway

"Fourm into Microcosm into Digitakt II – how I built a beat from nothing, faster than I expected.

In this video I build a beat from scratch using a brand-new setup: Sequential Fourm into Hologram Microcosm, captured and shaped on the Digitakt II.

Instead of treating effects as something you add at the end, I’m using the Microcosm as an idea generator - letting it transform a simple init patch into something that suggests harmony, rhythm, and direction very early on.

This is the first time I’ve made a track with this exact setup, and I was honestly surprised by how quickly it led to usable musical ideas.

The goal here isn’t to finish a track. It’s to show how I like to start - how I go from nothing to a beat that feels worth exploring further.

If you’ve ever felt stuck looping the same pattern without knowing where to take it next, this video sets up the foundation for what comes after. I’ll continue from this exact loop in the next video, where I focus on breaking out of the single-loop deadlock and opening things up into multiple patterns and directions."

"MANIFOLD RESEARCH CENTRE ANTILOPE

Prance with glee through the wilds of experimental sound with Antilope from Manifold Research Centre, a filter-based drum and dynamics machine designed for creative rhythms and otherworldly sound design. Based around a dual pingable resonant filter, Antilope creates plucks, bongo slaps, and ghastly squeals galore, which can be further shaped through the onboard distortion and multi-FX feedback path. In classic MRC fashion, taking this distortion and FX loop to unique extremes via feedback enables a vast timbral range, transforming the sizzling filter timbres into new and mangled shapes.

To get these sounds moving and grooving, a three-channel pattern recorder is available for patching around to Antilope's filter, distortion, and FX parameters. This provides a highly intuitive and performable interface equally suited for on-stage skronking and studio experimentalism. Each recorder can be switched between stepped voltage sequences or morphable AD envelopes, enabling both rigid beat shifting and smooth timbral changes alike.

Naturally, Antilope's 3.5mm CV inputs and outputs readily integrate into a broader Eurorack environment, opening up even more uncharted paths for sonic exploration. Likewise, the addition of MIDI clock reset and synchronization connectivity enables use in hybrid set-ups and DAW-based artistry. Using its stereo line level input on the back of the device, external sounds can be processed through the filter directly or in conjunction with Antilopes broader workflow, extending the sound world within by infinite margin.

Thanks to its dedicated headphone output and USB-C power input, Antilope's characterful design is primed for portable interaction, imbuing any journey with captivating sound. With its focused yet flexible design that collapses and reinvents percussive processing in MRC style, Antilope from Manifold Research Centre is a fantastic beast sure to inspire your trips through the creative unknown.

Rhythm Machine Pedal From Recovery Effects Demo

video upload by recoverysounds

"The Rhythm Machine evokes the nostalgia of early 1970s preprogrammed analog drum machines, like those from Maestro, Univox, and Ace Electronics. It captures their charm and simplicity while delivering the classic sounds of later icons such as the Roland CR-78 and TR-606, all in a compact, easy-to-use pedal. Perfect for musicians chasing retro vibes without the hassle of bulky, temperamental units, it delivers instant, playable beats for live performance, practice, or recording.

The Rhythm Machine offers 10 versatile rhythms with the distinctive kick, snare, and hi-hat sounds of old-school drum machines. Each beat can be edited on the fly to mute voices, using clean switching for seamless, noise-free transitions. Modern features, such as tap-tempo control and a gate input, make it simple to integrate with your other gear. Pedalboard-friendly, sonically compatible with effects, and powered by a standard 9V supply, it delivers the iconic sounds of vintage drum machines in a stage- and studio-ready pedal that fits seamlessly into any setup."

Maestro Rhythm King MK1 SN M-10402 w/ Operation Instructions Model MRK-1

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this Reverb listing

"It's not everyday you're in the presence of royalty but get yourself a Maestro Rhythm King (like this one here, of course) and you will be! The Maestro Rhythm King is a legend and this Mark I version is even harder to find these days. Sly from Sly and the Family Stone used a Rhythm King, so did Shuggie Otis as well as many others and now it's your chance.

Fat, musical, Analog goodness await you with this oft-recorded vintage beat machine. Use the manual keys to add unique flavor to the already flavorful preset rhythms and you can even combine any two or three preset rhythms for even more variations. This thing looks amazing, sounds even better, will inspire your creativity, add Analog sweetness to your tracks or live performances and if you ever get tired of having it around (you probably never will) just sample the sounds on to your DAW and sell it for what you paid for it or more. That's the beauty of great vintage gear!"

Footwork Beat | Elektron Machinedrum

video upload by Akihiko Matsumoto

"MDJK808 Drumkit: https://akihikomatsumoto.sellfy.store...

Machinedrum Sample Pack
The Elektron Machinedrum, first introduced in the early 2000s, was not simply a drum machine. It was a digital architecture built to generate percussion with surgical precision and metallic sharpness. Its synthesis models produced results that went beyond drum programming, moving into the territory of sound design. Even today, no software plugin has managed to fully replicate its distinctive texture.
This collection captures that uniqueness. Every sample was recorded directly from the Machinedrum itself. No external processing, no layering. What you hear is the circuitry of early Elektron design, distilled into one-shots that highlight the instrument’s raw identity.

Block Rockin' Beats/The Chemical Brothers (Circuit Tracks Version)

video upload by Guinan

"'Back with another one of those block rockin' beats.....'
I've been searching around for an ideal Chemical Brothers track to recreate on the Circuit Tracks when up popped one of my favourite channels, ‪@smallplatesmusic‬ with a video about this classic 1997 song off the album "Dig Your Own Hole'. I've loved the band since their 'Dust Brother'/Playstation 1 days and this mix of jazz, hip-hop and breakbeats blended with their signature synths is a true anthem. (plus check out another great band, 23 Skidoo's track 'Coup' for possible 'inpiration')

See the video here [below] for his fascinating deep dive into all of the samples used and the history behind them. Highly, highly recommend for any music fan...plus also some great Koala Sample App recreations too!

After commenting I was offered access to the Koala track shown in the video, and many of the samples in this recreation come from that version. Mark this up as my first collaboration on this channel! Huge thanks for the inspiration and help ‪@smallplatesmusic‬

What you hear was all recreated on a single Novation Circuit Tracks with the drum tracks used to sequence the various samples, augmented with synth lines to underpin the sound when needed. It was recorded straight from the audio outs into a Zoom L6 without any extra synths or effects.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it and stay tuned!

More details for synth nerds.

BPM 109.
Synth 1 - sawtooth bass synth
Synth 2 - distorted PWM saw patch playing chords and stabs
Drum 1 - drum loops
Drum 2 - sequenced bass note samples
Drum 3 - vocal snatches and pitched gunshot(!) samples
Drum 4 - crash cymbal and 707 open and closed hihats"

Remaking "Block Rockin' Beats" on Koala Sampler

video upload by small plates music

"Back with another one of those..attempts to remake a dancefloor classic on my phone.

This early Chemical Brothers banger includes a lot of jazz, funk, soul and early hip-hop samples including Schoolly D’s raw intro, Wilton Felder’s (very technical...) bassline, and Bernard Purdie’s funky drum fills. I have a listen to the sample, tell you some interesting things I found out, then try to rebuild the track using Koala, showing you how it works (more or less).

Featuring nods to Grand Wizard Theodore, Afrika Islam, Adult Swim cartoons, and the Zulu Beat Show.

0:00-0:15 Intro - What are we doing here anyway?
0:23-1:10 Schoolly D "Back With Another One Of Those" vocal, Acqua Teen Hunger Force
1:10-1:45 The Crusaders bassline- Beastie Boys cover, every third 1/16th note, Wilton Felder's other credits
2:02-2:43 Using Koala for the bass and drums
2:43-4:07 Drums by Bernard Purdie- the sample machine
4:07- 5:20 "Hoooo!" - Early hip-hop artefacts, Grand Wizard Theodore
5:20-6:50 Afrika Islam on the Zulu Beats Show, waiting for MCs, 'We're about ready to rock steady'
6:50-7:36 "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo", "Rocksteady" Aretha Franklin drummer
7:36-9:00 Koala workout, using the samples to recreate Block Rockin' Beats"

Making a 5/4 Beat in Patterning 3 Using Nature Sounds

video upload by Olympia Noise Co.

"Making a 5/4 beat in Patterning 3: Drum Machine using only nature sounds—(almost) no talking, just the creative process.

In this video, I create a rhythm in 5/4 time signature using Patterning 3 : Drum Machine and nature samples. All the sounds were collected in a temperate rainforest in the Pacific Northwest by touching trees, lichen, moss, and ferns. Yup.

Patterning 3 is a circular drum machine for iOS that makes working with unusual time signatures intuitive and fun. The 5/4 meter gives this beat an interesting, off-kilter groove.

Perfect for producers looking for Patterning 3 workflow inspiration
• Anyone interested in unusual time signatures
• Fans of ambient and organic beat-making

video upload by Stromer Mutroniks

"Another video of my version of the Mica sonic electric bongos. This time played with an Arturia Keystep Pro."

Follow-up to this post.

New pics in green via this Reverb listing

"My recreation of the Mica-Sonic Electric Bongos.

Here's Soundgas description of the Stromer Bongos:

'A handbuilt analogue recreation of the fabled electronic percussion circuit as used by Madlib and on the legendary recording of Ann Peebles 'I Can't Stand the Rain'.'

These are handbuilt in small batches so expect some inconsistencies with the finish - sonically they're very close to the originals (though all originals vary in tone/timbre now due to component ageing/drift."

Each drum tone has a trim pot inside that's been adjusted so that the oscillator is just below the point of self-oscillation. When triggered, the circuit oscillates at its resonant frequency and rings out like a drum. Pushing in the 'mute' button shortens the decay.

To play these you need something that sends trigger pulses, like a beat- or key-step pro, or a drum machine with trigger outputs. Works with your standard center negative 9 volt adapter (not included)."

Sound as Circuit: The Material Signature of Elektron Analog Rytm

https://akihikomatsumoto.sellfy.store...

In the world of modern drum synthesis, few machines have achieved the level of circuit-specific identity that the Elektron Analog Rytm embodies. It is not a sampler. It is not just an analog drum synth. It is a dynamic system where non-linear saturation, voltage interaction, and microcontroller precision combine to produce results that feel tactile.

This sample pack was created to capture those behaviors directly at the source.
Every sound has been recorded without digital post-processing, in order to preserve the natural transients, filtering irregularities, and dynamic headroom behavior unique to the machine.
