More oddness from synth gear maker gieskes.
In short, the little paper blocks a laser shining on an LDR (light dependent resistor), which in turn causes the reset pin on the Gameboy to activate. I just like looking at it.

"so this is my first attempt at a circuit based synth. it makes some horrible noises. that's why it's called 'do capacitors dream of electric death?', it sounds like electricity trying to die.
i don't know if it's really useful (the intro tune was a quick little something i made up in Sunvox with noises only from the synth.) But i'm quite happy with it's overall aesthetic and well, since it's my first attempt at anything like this i'm just glad it worked and ended up making noises :P

New Vindor ES1 Saxophone Style Wind Instrument & Controller on Kickstarter
via the Kickstarter campaign:
"At Vindor, we believe that anyone can make music. Playing music should be affordable, accessible and fun for everyone.
That's why we designed the Vindor ES1. It's an electronic saxophone that is easy to play, fun, and inspires creativity.
Playing music develops cognitive, motor, and emotional skills. It also builds confidence and encourages everyone from kids to adults to express themselves.
The Vindor ES1 is:
Affordable. For less than $200, the Vindor is cheaper than buying or renting a saxophone, flute or clarinet.
Relevant to all ages. Lightweight and tough, the Vindor ES1 is designed to be played by adults and children over six years old.
Satisfying to play. By digitally producing tones, the Vindor ES1 eliminates the squeaks and squawks that frustrate beginners.
Creative. With a unique sound, quick response, and four-octave span, the Vindor ES1 gives you the flexibility to be inventive and to experiment.
Mobile. Lightweight, compact and with a built-in rechargeable battery you can play the Vindor ES1 anywhere.
Quiet when needed. You can play the Vindor ES1 with headphones to play or practice in peace (and out of earshot of roommates, parents, neighbors).
Connected. Use it as a controller for software instruments and with music apps like GarageBand on desktops, tablets and smartphone.
The way you press the Vindor's buttons to make different notes is the same as a saxophone. We have eliminated a few advanced keys to simplify the playing experience. Even though saxophones are bigger, what each finger does is identical in both the Vindor and saxophone.
The Vindor also has corresponding sound and fingering to a flute or a clarinet."

1. The Stylophone Gen X-1: The Theme from Toast of London
"Here is Matt Berry's 'Take My Hand,' otherwise known as the theme from Toast of London realized entirely via multitracking an analog Stylophone Gen X-1 over drums.
The Gen X-1 is a shockingly versatile Stylophone at the same time as being a delightfully fun analog synthesizer.
Of course, you should also check out Toast of London if you can view it on television, or on Netflix if you cannot. Not only is it sublime comedy, but Matt Berry's accompanying music is fantastic... and not just because it is often analog-synth-laden.

nonlinearcircuits Hyperchaos Deluxe
hyperchaos deluxe1 Published on Oct 17, 2017
"Hyperchaos Deluxe as the centre of a patch controlling a thru0 VCO, VCF, Timbre and a Bong0."
via nonlinearcircuits
"Hyperchaos Deluxe is based on the description in A UNIQUE SIGNUM SWITCH FOR CHAOS AND HYPERCHAOS by C. Li et al and is an expansion of the circuit used in Primal Hyperchaos.
There are 10 different CV outputs and 2 gate outputs. The CV IN is associated with the CLIMAX pot which determines how high the peaks go. The module can be greatly influenced by the CV in signal and can exhibit some fairly nutty responses at times.
The Rate input can be used in a few different ways:
1. With nothing patched in the circuit operates in slow mode
2. With a cable patched in, but its other end hanging loose, the circuit operates in fast mode.
3. Feed a gate signal to the Rate input and the circuit will vary between fast and slow modes (gate high = slow)
4. Feed a fast clock signal and you can get the circuit to operate at different speeds. This is quite dependent upon the frequency of the incoming clock and can take some tweaking to get right. If the clock is too fast it will mainly appear to be in slow mode.
Probably 3 is the best option as you can have the CVs cruising along and then suddenly going nutso when the gate ends."
