Pixelh8s most recent work Obsolete [available on iTunes] is a audio and visual study of the people, machines, history of The National Museum of Computing, Bletchley Park and looks closely at the themes of mathematics, logic, code-breaking and enciphering. The project was funded by the PRS Foundations new music award and commissioned by The National Museum of Computing.
The music itself is composed using some of the oldest and rarest computers in the world such as the WWII code-breaking machine Colossus Mark 2 Rebuild, and the 1960s Elliott 803 largely used for mathematics and some of the more commonplace machines such as the BBC Micro. With over thirty machines studied and utilised within the music, it is a combination of both sounds from the internal sound chips and the external electro-mechanical sounds. In addition to this, the piece also utilises such items as the early non-electrical mechanical adding machines.
The project was comprised of twelves pieces of music and accompanying visuals and culminated in two performances at the prestigious Bletchley Park Mansion on March 20th and 21st, 2009.

Acxel2 Website
Update: Unfortunately, the Acxel2 project was cancelled in January of 2011 due to lack of funding:
"Formally Idarca-Audio is bankrupted, not for technical reasons but for critical investment that never happened.
We have working unit. We currently work to revive the project, in short to get an investment in a new corporation, complete the certifications and build new units,
Thank you for your interest."
The new Acxel2 website is up.
"Acxel2 is a new upgradeable multi-synthesis and multi-timbral modular synthesizer offering: Additive synthesis, Re-synthesis, Expanded synthesis and Analog synthesis. Acxel2 introduces its native analysis synthesis mode: the Acxelink®.
All Acxel2 musical instruments can be used with any DAW (Pro Tools, Cakewalk, Cubase, Steinberg, Logic, etc.), can operate under Apple or Windows platform and can be used as "slave" or "master" with any MIDI or audio analog entry (keyboard, guitar, microphone, etc ...).
All our products incorporate the Acxel2 re-programmable microprocessor RPP renowned for its extreme reliability and execution speed, dramatically superior to any DSP chips currently available on the market.
Through synthesis and processing of native Acxel2, processing options and sound changes are virtually unlimited. The Acxel2 can emulate any synthesis known modes or original combinations of synthesis modes, effects and signal processing, modification in sounds envelope or articulation ... all in real time!" Be sure to see the official Acxel2 website for more.
If you are unfamiliar with the history of the original Acxel Resynthesizer see these posts. Be sure to scroll when you get there for video and more. This is big news in the synth community.
Update via iDARCA Audio on the new Axcel2. The following actually came in with the image fo the Axcel2 rack above. I wanted to clear it with iDARCA before posting. Note the red below: "Here is a preview of the STUDIO Model that we are working on, 2U, the RACK front panel will also be very close to it (Back panel has different version RACK depending on options – Analog, Digital). The Grapher (2 versions) is under design, we expect the LCD version available soon in fall and LED Matrix (inspired from the Acxel1 with 24 bits colors, multitouch and better resolution than the original Acxel grapher) to be availble in the End of the year.
The CARD version (Home Studios) is actually under tests, the control software too. In fact all system share same base software that runs into MAC and PC."

via Aliens ProjectNote I try to spread the Aliens Project close-up of the week posts out as they usually feature one shot, and I don't feel quite right posting each one - I try to make my posts more about letting you know what's out there and directing you to the source site for more. That wouldn't quite work if I put every single post up. That said, click here for prior close ups on Aliens Project.

Meadowfield DIY Minimoog
"After playing on many different synths and copying several designs. I decided that I had to have a minimoog...Unfortunately the cost of a second hand minimoog is anything between £1000-£2000 depending on age and condition. So the only choice I have is to look at doing my own copy with the aim of keeping the circuits and design as original as possible."

Hardware Controller Support for the IPhone Coming
via Mr. Array:
"Not sure if you're following the live apple keynote, but this caught my attention:
'Those are only a few of the 100+ features of iPhone OS 3.0. It is a great developer release too -- 100+ new APIs: in-app purchases (same business terms as app sales), Peer to Peer connectivity (easy multiplayer gaming -- Bluetooth, not Wifi), opening up support for hardware accessories that can talk to the software.'
Here come the bluetooth MIDI controllers! Haha. Would be a great way to interact with all of those iPhone softsynths."

"For an ebay auction. Machinedrum in background. This is a very fun synth to tweak, it always ends up in strange unexpected places. All the knobs make it look like a virtual analog, but it's more like a wavetable synth, but still very different (but just as gratifying) as a virtual analog."

VINTAGE 1970s ARP SYNTHESIZER KEYBOARD TIE TACK
"This vintage 1970s Arp Synthesizer gold tie tack is in mint condition. Only given to Arp dealers and salesmen, it is very rare. Great for a collector or just go for that retro look."
ANALOGUE SOLUTIONS BLACK COFFEE
"This is a great mono synth with some modular patching capabilities that can be a great stand alone sound module controlled by MIDI and tweaked using the front panel knobs or integrated into a studio environment with other CV sources and processors. Personally I used it with some MOOGERFOOGER pedals and got some great results. It is a great entry into learning old school synthesis and the Squarewave oscillator sounds PHATT!!! Being a little stand alone unit with so many features I would say that this unit would also be great for NOISE DRONE ATARI PUNK style experimentalists because the sound is super rich but also has its quirks that can be exploited. According to Analogue Solutions this particular unit is from the last production issue but housed in an earlier issue case which is why there is MIDI ports but no dip switches.
