John Foxx & The Maths - Destination

YouTube via JohnFoxxMetamatic — April 30, 2010 — "In between rehearsals for the ''Short Circuit'' analogue synthesizer show at the Roundhouse on 5 June, John Foxx has also been doing some filming with Benge and Karborn. This is at Benge's Play studios in London, where they're recording the new John Foxx & The Maths album, due for release in autumn 2010. Karborn projected some films across them as they played - hence the sunglasses as they were blasted with white light. It's very much a rough cut of something that may develop into a full length promo later in the year - some of the imagery may also be used on screens at the Roundhouse, or even form part of a dvd at some later stage. All loose plans at the moment, but as Brian Eno recently commented, Benge's studio is an important contribution to the ''archeology'' of synths - and the great thing about these old machines is they look as fantastic as they sound. The track on this clip, 'Destination' is the first single from the album and is currently available with a second track, 'September Town' via iTunes etc."

Blofeld editor for Reaktor

via Gavan on the Waldorf list:

"This is my first real creation with reaktor.

i got sick of there being no software editor for the blofeld on the mac OS platform..

so i decided to make one, unfortunately Reaktor doesn't allow sysex so i was limited to using CC changes so not all parameters are available but everything that can be controlled by CC's are ....

i've tested in Cubase 4 running standalone Reaktor via the inbuilt OS X IAC bus and it works great..

i also tested in Ableton live 8 but it will only allow you to use the editor in monitor mode, so you cant alter parameters from the editor whilst a clip is playing back only when monitoring .. which is a strange limitation of Ableton.. or of course i could be missing something..

you can, however, run the editor from the VST version of reaktor in Live..

Parameter changs in both hosts are recordable

hopefully this is of use to someone :) especially in OS X land

and if anyone using other hosts could let me know if it works like logic or DP

can download here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/98006/blofeld%20editor.zip or from the Reaktor user library"

Living VCO DIY Module

This one in via John L. Rice. It's a Living VCO made by Peter:

"I'm not a MOTMer & I make my own panels, so I don't have much to add to this debate. I did however finish wiring my Living VCO module today. Its still on the bench being checked over and is not integrated into my system yet but is looking and sounding good so far.

I managed a FRAC format panel design that has all the stock features and fits pretty comfortably (for me) on a 5U frac panel.

Here's a pic of the module taken some time ago before beginning wiring.

Access Virus Indigo Synthesizer Keyboard

via this auction

"Dubbed the 'Virtual Analog Roadster', the Indigo is a retro-styled twist on the amazing Virus synthesizer. It blends classic Roland, Moog and ARP style with the great features and sounds of the Virus B (OS 4.0). It adds a stout 37-note keyboard and a cool new grey/blue look. It's compact, easy to play, fun to tweak, and is a powerful synth!"

Korg MS10 Vintage Analogue Synthesizer

via this auction

"The MS-10 is a cool & classic analog synth known for its great bass and percussive sounds. It was released by Korg in 1978 as an entry-level, simple monophonic single-VCO analog synthesizer. With the authentic look of a mini-modular its single VCO is patchable using standard 1/4 inch patch cords to the VCF and VCA. It really is a powerful little mono-synth with plenty of knobs and a compact 32-note keyboard. It is CV/Gate controllable. A very cool feature is its external input to filter which allows you to filter external sound sources!"

Yamaha CS-60 Polyphonic Synthesiser

via this auction

"There is lots of information on the internet about the exact specification but the CS-60 essentially is an 8-voice polyphonic synth with probably the finest ring modulator available and one programmable preset via little version of the sliders under a small cover on the top left. It has after-touch (routed to vibrato, brilliance etc.) and the wonderful ribbon controller also featured on the larger CS-80. It is a real ‘players’ synth and capable of some extraordinary sounds. This is one of the big-league poly-synths and provides about 50% of the functions of the much larger and heavier CS-80 (at a lot less than half of the price of the CS-80!)."

Crumar Bit One SSM Vintage Analog Synthesizer

via this auction
"crumar Bit one with the SSM2044 vcf's. I compared the two (other version more common has CEM3328 vcf's) with the same patches loaded and on most sounds it's fairly hard to tell much difference. But I think overall these are a little more punchy and the others maybe more excelling on ethereal kinds of sounds. Or maybe it's the way the controls are tweaked :-). Hard to tell since I can't find tune up procedure. You just kind of adjust these to sound the way you like. I found some solder issues and a couple bad resistors in this one and got it working swell again.

I really like the Bit One but I feel like a selfish pig keeping both of them..and I have a lot of machines with SSM2044 filters but none with CEM3328 so I decided to keep the more common version and maybe some collector will appreciate having number 27 I believe it is? See photo... Anyway to me these are the most oberheim sounding of the digital controlled oscillator analogs. The dynamic lfo rate control is kind of a cool feature too. The layering is weird, the MIDI early and crude. BEWARE..when you boot keep your fingers off keys for 6 seconds or so. It goes through a calibration thing and if you touch stuff you will think it's broken :-) Kind of quirky in that way. ALso if you plug in a midi cable it defeats the output til you reboot on mine. Different. But anyway it's an awesome dual oscillator/voice 6 voice analog. Like the Chroma Polaris the keyboard sounds are pretty excellent I think."

Hartmann NEURON Synthesizer

via this auction

"This is about a rare and amazing digital synthesizer called Neuron. Everything works as it should altho a few things have to be noted:

a) The internal synth's power supply is dead but it has been replaced by a high quality, Thermaltake TWV 500W power supply, that is now located outside of the synthesizer's case connected with a standard power supply cable, to the Neuron's internal motherboard.

b) Two keys have very small cracks as seen in the photos. The cracks are very small and have not affected any of the synthesizer's functions or feel. Of course they can easily be replaced if one aims towards perfection.

Everything else is in MINT condition and works perfectly! Along with the synth, come the manual and presentation DVD,Original box, DVD with extra sounds from Hartmann and the ethernet to USB plug that you will need in order to connect the Neuron with your Mac or Pc."
