Thought this video was pretty cool. I wasn't sure what to expect the Taurus to sound like in the mix. It's an interesting timbre that sounds familiar but not exactly synthetic. Although thought it was interesting seeing him play the Taurus with his hands which I think many of us would be better at than using our feat.

NAMM 2013: The Numark Orbit Wireless MIDI Controller

"Numark's Orbit is like a wireless game controller for MIDI. Orbit can be used wired via the included USB cable, which also charges it, or wireless using 2.4 GHz connectivity.

The Orbit features 4 selectable banks of 16 backlit pads, 8 on each side. Located in the center of Orbit are 4 bank selection buttons, 4 virtual knobs, and a large aluminum-faced touch- sensitive control wheel, which controls the selected virtual knob for tweaking effects and filters.

The Orbit also offers an embedded 2-axis accelerometer, which can be assigned to 2 different parameters per bank and activated via 2 shoulder buttons.

All of Orbit's controls are fully mappable, so they can be mapped to effects control, transport control, volume control, or any other MIDI parameter.

The Orbit is priced at $99 and is expected to be available this spring."

"Switched On is at NAMM this year taste testing many of the new and exciting designs being debuted.

Korg has unveiled a replica of it's famed MS-20 scaled down to a miniature version. Everyone at Switched On loves the original MS-20 so the announcement of this was a pleasant surprise. I decided to do some noodling around with the Mini MS-20's parameters. I jacked directly into the output stage of it to avoid the chaotic background noise of the convention center. It has all of the original signal path and patching capabilities using the original Hz/Octave scaling. It also includes midi and usb connectivity. If you recall the iMS-20 controller it is essentially that in it's form factor, except rotary encoders have been replaced with pots and true analog circuitry designed by the original engineers. Best of all, it's going to be $599.00 and shipping by April.

Pictured: New eowave modular. 1 Volt / Octave meaning it is compatible with eurorack and other formats that support it.  If you look closely you will see the module lines are drawn.  This is another self contained modular system which is essentially a synth with modular capabilities.  We are beginning to see more systems like these which can be a good option for those that are interested in modulars but aren't sure if they want to take the plunge with an empty case.

AKAI MPC 2000 Demo Track with iOS App Samples

"Today I received a MPC 2000 which is form a friend of mine (analogmadness). Decided to make a track with it. Samples are single shots form my iPad with various apps. Melodies are done with the 16 levels function and the quick arrangement with the track mute. The recording was made in the living room. As audio capture device i used my trusty mpc 500. Since that is my only portable stereo recording device.

iOS apps used:

FunkBox for drums
Apple Garageband for Rhodes and bass
lead with korg iPolysix (this mpc doesn't have the EB16 FX expansion so I had to sample the delay with it :( )
