MacBeth M5X in the Works

via Ken MacBeth on Facebook

"Thanks for your comments guys....................initial negotiations have been taking place!"

followed by:

"This will be decided by my dealer/distributors as I'm probably not doing direct sales. One distributor in particular (Awave) sparked this off by challenging me as to why I stopped making the synth- it was down to two things- size and expense (to me). I have been urged to do the synth again, which will surface as M5X- this was once rumoured to happen- but didn't. Now it looks like it will. Powerful X-Series circuits will now be included in this............plus some other slight changes. Price typically- £5~£5.5K. This is a limited production run aimed at those who care not for expense and just want a brand new machine! You are looking at 3~4 months away as most of the work has already been done!"

What do you see?

"NASA ARTIFACT VPI Vehicle Power Interface Rack & Console Hubble Space Telescope

Being offered is one of the most important pieces of hardware associated with the Hubble Space Telescope that will ever be offered for public sale.

This is the Vehicle Power Interface (VPI) Equipment Rack and 2 Person Control Console for the Hubble Space Telescope.

It was the heart and soul of the HST during it's testing phase at the Space Telescope Assembly/Verification Facility and the Thermal Vacuum Chamber Facility at the Goddard Flight Center.

The VPI Console provided power to the HST and performed tests to it's batteries and solar panels as it was undergoing final testing before it's planned launch in September of 1986

There are two log of operation books that come with the VPI, chronicling it's history from it's first entry of "initial power on" 6/7/84, through it's Validation Test on 6, June 1986, to it's final entry date of 3/19/90, just a few weeks before STS 31 launched on 4/24/1990 to deploy the most famous telescope in world history!!!

The more prominent features of the VPI Equipment Rack are:

Six (6) HP 6012B DC Power Supplies,
Two (2) Lambda Power Supplies
Two (2) Battery Loads
Two (2) Remote and Command Monitor Modules
One (1) Vehicle Power Control Module
One (1) Vehicle Power Conditioning Module
One (1) Vehicle Battery Control & Monitor Module
One (1) Vehicle Power Conditioning Solar Array Input Module
One (1) AC Power Distribution Module
One (1) Clear-Com Intercom System Remote Station

Everything is housed in a very substantial 3 rack metal cabinet with lockable 3 door access in the back.

Cabinet is completely hand wired, as only NASA can do, it's a thing of beauty!

All pieces of equipment have wire seals that have not been tampered with

There are three large Heat Vent Stacks with internal fans on the top of the cabinet.

This rack is large, and has quite an impressive Presentation!

Overall size is 79" wide by 48" deep by 82" tall

Weight of the VPI Console is 2750 lbs.

The more prominent features of the Dual Control Console are as follows:

PSSP Simulator Panel
HUBBLE PSSP Simulator Panel
(2) Ball CRT Monitors
(2) ADDS Keyboards
T-O Control Panel
Telemetry and Command Panel
Auxiliary Monitor Panel
NorthStar Computer
Battery Trickle Charge Panel
(2) ADDS Panels

Control Console measures 7' long and weighs about 800 lbs.

This was a multi-million dollar piece of sophisticated electronic equipment with a remarkable place in history.

It is an Investment Quality NASA Hubble Space Telescope Artifact!"

Rorschach: I'm seeing Fairlight racks, Roland MSQ-700 buttons, Movement MCS Percussion Computer, EMS meets ARP 2500, & Akai samplers.

I'm thinking this one belongs in Bernee's Aliens Project SynxsS studio.

"If you are searching for a Yamaha VL1-m you will know how difficult they are to find. You will also know the reason why that is so is because they are described as among the most powerful and subtle physical modelling synthesizers ever mass manufactured. In it's online review of the VL1-m Sound on Sound state: 'The VL1 is not just another synthesizer. It represents a major change in the way that electronic musical instruments are made and perceived. It really is that different!'

Yamaha writes on it's own website: 'Every note played is unique, just as on an acoustic instrument, where minute differences in playing technique from note to note affect the timbre and quality of the sound produced. It accurately reproduces the transitions between notes, which are as much a part of music as the note themselves'"

Propellerhead Redrum Drum Machine 101 with Redrum - Micro Tutorial

Published on Apr 5, 2013 PropellerheadSW·304 videos

"Ever since Reason 1.0 beatmakers, producers, and button-mashers alike have all loved the venerable old Redrum Drum Computer. And it's easy to see why. Step sequencing drum machines like Redrum or even the classic Roland 808 offer a nearly perfect layout for programming the rhythmic syncopated beats used in so many popular music genres. The 16 buttons, representing the 16 steps in the beat, provide the right blend of predictable beat construction and random experimentation when you want to spice up your beats.

In this micro tutorial, we'll get you started with drum step sequencing and get familiar with the Redrum's layout. You'll soon learn why producers the world over love Kong but also keep coming back to Redrum for that special creative simplicity."

SE ObieRack X2 Bass Jam w/ Analogue Solutions Oberkorn & Telemark

Published on Apr 5, 2013 rezfilter·44 videos

"This is bass -- so headphones required!

Here's a little bass jam put together with 2 Studio Electronics ObieRacks, an Analogue Solutions Oberkorn analogue sequencer, and a Telemark V2 semi-modular synth. A five voice!

The Telemark (under the ObieRacks) is providing the backing pitchy, swooshy f/x, and you'll see the binary inputs of the Oberkorn being patched -- which creates new patterns on the TM in binary fashion.

The ObieRack has a master filter cutoff (for both SEMs) that is adjusted during the video. Additionally, the SEMs are switched to bandpass mode for some variety in the sequence.

No overdubs, no FX, no frills -- just a quick recording of the dry/raw juicy analogue sounds.

just for fun!"

Reactable Mobile

Published on Apr 5, 2013 Nick Trass·53 videos

http://apps4idevices.com/read/reactab...

"Reactable mobile is a modular music studio that uses the very same audio engine and graphics of the original hardware, allowing you a very intuitive and visual method for improvisation and song creation. The app gives you access to a very large range of exclusive content using the in-app community browser, which you can simply remix or use as source material for your own compositions. Reactable now has AudioBus support and audio copy/paste, which is a perfect combination for importing your own samples and recording either live or pre-recorded performances directly into other apps that also support AudioBus. It's probably better to have a decent grip on synthesis to get the most out of this app, but with such a large range of community table presets available, it is also a good way to learn synthesis in a very visual way. You do also get samplers, sequencers, effects and modulation modules to connect up in any fashion you like. You get 4 separate samplers that are able to load 4 samples each, so you can easily change sounds with the tap of a finger. The video below shows how to manipulate many of the parameters available, loading samples, drawing your own wave shapes and generally navigating a performance. The audio track is an example of a live performance recorded directly into Multitrack DAW using AudioBus. I have to admit that I'm a big fan of all modular styled apps, and this one is definitely one of the best. The inclusion of sampler modules with AudioBus connectivity certainly makes this a big favourite of mine, and the easy access to a large amount of community tables definitely makes this ... A Killer App!

SOCIAL ENTROPY RELEASES QUICKSILVER 606 CPU UPGRADE FOR THE TR-606

"The Quicksilver 606 CPU upgrade for the TR-606 is now available! [Press release below] The soundtrack is by Syn303, track available here: https://soundcloud.com/syn303/kontakt..."

Quicksilver 606 Features Overview
Published on Apr 4, 2013

"We go over some of the new features of the Quicksilver 606 CPU upgrade for the TR-606. We cover individual instrument accents, 32 step patterns, MUTE and ROLL, randomize, rotate, reverse and some MIDI capabilities."

---

PRESS RELEASE:

"Dallas, TX, April 04, 2013 - Exactly one year after the successful release of the Quicksilver 303, Social Entropy is pleased to announce the Quicksilver 606 CPU upgrade. Quicksilver 606 is a completely new replacement CPU for the classic TR-606 drum machine. The operating system has been rewritten from the ground up.

The Quicksilver 606 introduces the capability to accent individual instrument triggers. A mix of accented and unaccented triggers can be placed on the same step. This ability makes it possible to program much more expressive patterns that weren’t possible on the original TR-606.

A new MUTE/ROLL mode has been added specifically for realtime performance.
MUTE mode allows muting of individual instrument tracks. Mutes can be applied in realtime and stored with a pattern or applied globally across patterns.
ROLL mode creates a note repeat of selected instruments. The time division of the roll can be changed in realtime for dynamic build-ups and variations.

Patterns can now be up to 32 steps in length, split across two 16 step sections. When extending a pattern from 16 to 32 steps, pattern data can copied automatically into the new section. Up to sixteen patterns can be chained for playback.

The sequencing engine supports standard grid and tap programming methods. A new realtime record capability also allows patterns to be entered live with a MIDI controller, with incoming velocity used to dynamically set accents.

Functions like copy and paste, randomize, rotate and reverse can be applied to individual instruments or entire patterns.

The extended track mode allows for complete songs to be constructed using patterns. Each track step has settings for instrument mutes, multiple repeats or pattern chains.

Changing between modes can be performed without stopping the sequencer. All data is stored in EEPROM memory, eliminating the need for batteries.

Enhanced MIDI connectivity provides synchronization, sequencer input and output, as well as a new "MIDI Control Mode" which allows the buttons of the TR-606 to be controlled remotely by any device that can send MIDI note messages.

Full MIDI System Exclusive support means that pattern and track data can be dumped to external devices for backup or sharing. USB MIDI can also be used for direct connection to various USB host devices.

USB connectivity is also used for easy operating system upgrades.

The Quicksilver 606 is available for immediate purchase. Price for the base CPU is $275 USD, with free installation for a limited time.

ARP 2600 on a Napkin

via The Guvnor

"Basically, my ARP 2600 has been in pieces about 10 years, since I took it apart to service it. The disaster happened when my basement was cleared out and I lost the service manual for it. The online service manuals found on the popular sites do not have the circuit/wiring diagrams for all the PCBs so mine was not included. Recently I have located my original service manual after 10 years, and I am now ready for the great 2600 rebuild and resurrection. The napkin was intended to show the years of angst through the eyes of PackRat himself when the only 2600 I had was made by Arturia!"

Electric Blanket

"All Ensoniq SQ80 with some VST effects to make things a bit punchier, LOVE THAT THING, I only wish there were slightly more drum patches available.."

"Electric Blanket is the new musical disc by New Zealand's perpetually inventive Disasteradio. An isometric-topdown contemplation on post-synthpop, a collection of complex puzzles made of twisting pre-web 2.0 nostalgia. Experiments in alt. time signature danceability, mundane simulation computer-jazz and high-tech/low-tech life augmentation solutions. Electric Blanket is that virtual-companion, Iolo as musical consultant, guiding you through the treacherous terrain of NOW-MUSIC. Six songs of simple-as-Mandelbrot melodies, refill-brain-maze grooves and complex-strategies as life affirming anthems.

Disasteradio (Luke Rowell) has been crafting his self-informed pop-music for the last 10 years. A career of effortless DIY fortified with Rowell's innate knack for imbuing his songs with an unrivalled stoner-academic wit. Coming off the back of his debut release under his other adult-contemporary/new-age pseudonym EYELINER, Luke has donned the Disasteradio moniker again to challenge you to not-not dance along with Electric Blanket.

Comfort yourself today with the lcd-radiance that is Disasteradio's Electric Blanket, like the prerequisite space-adventurers towel it's ill advised to be on-line without it.
