Omnitone Eurorack Modular Synthesizers

video uploads by Omnitone

Playlist & modules:

1. This is Rhythmi.
Rhythmi is a Eurorack drum sequencer that allows you to dial in your groove, and explore it by evolving the pattern and modulating the energy. It allows for rhythmic inspiration and creativity without the burden of step programming. The evolve parameter enables smooth transitions between related rhythms through the use of branches. New branches can be generated at the push of a button, loading up a whole new branch of related rhythms to explore. The Evolve parameter is the heart of Rhythmi, its inspiration, and defining feature. Allowing rhythms to shift, transform, and melt into one another. The Clock Section provides internal or external clocking with division or multiplication. The Customize Section shapes individual drum elements through density and syncopation. The Global Section introduces macro-level control over the rhythm via the Energy, Evolve, Length and Swing parameters, dynamically shaping fills and variations. Rhythmi has a jumper cable connector on the back to pair up seamlessly with Beatsi, the drum voice it was designed alongside with.

2. This is Beatsi.
Beatsi is our love letter to modular drums! Inspired by classic modular drum synthesis which uses the fundamental building blocks, Beatsi’s timbres were created using the same methods, only digitally, to minimize footprint. Beatsi is not a sample player or a physical modeller, and it’s meant to be that way. Beatsi’s interface allows for control over individual piece Timbre, Pitch, Decay, and Level. The timbres are organized into 3 kits: an orange (acoustic) kit, a blue (low-fi) kit, and a green (alien) kit. Within these kits the timbres blend smoothly into one another allowing for seamless modulation. Beatsi has two CV modulation inputs which are assignable to any and all parameters with individual attenuversion. Beatsi may be small, but it packs a serious punch.

3. This is Rosci.
TUNABLE PARAMETERS BREAKDOWN: COMPLEXITY: Essentially a generation of unique timbre. ROUNDNESS: Set the basic shape of your waveform. Go from from sharp to soft sound, similar to filtering. HARMONICS: Add up to 6 harmonies to your sound. The choir's here. FORMANTS: Accentuate certain overtones in your sound (like a voice singing "ooo", "ahh", "eee"). DETUNE: Add a classic 'detune' with a changing phase wave for extra wide sound. HOW DOES IT WORK? It is a pipeline of algorithms, which generates and modifies a waveform starting from top to bottom. Rosci works on a principle of key points: the generate button generates key point location and amplitudes to be passed down the pipeline.

Tunable parameters:
Beginning with complexity, you set the number of key points (even numbers only to create a waveform). Lowest complexity sets two points, and highest complexity sets up to 20 points. The number of key points will vary with each waveform generated. From there, the roundness sets the type of interpolation of the key points, from square to sine. Adjusting the harmonics creates copies of the waveform and adds them to the original waveform at double, triple, ... up to 6x the base frequency. Formants maintains the frequency of the wave, but squishes it so there is 'empty space' in between (this is also called pulsar synthesis). Finally, detune copies the waveform and 'detunes it' by increasing the frequency ever so slightly. And there you have it: a unique Rosci soundscape :)

4. This is Melodi.
Melodi is a semi-random sequence generator built for Eurorack! No more time spent fidgeting with sequence steps, Melodi generates sequences based on the mood you set so you can create the sound you’re searching for—It can be tweaked to create anything from a powerful bassline to a sparkly melody.
5. Made by Rosci.

3rd Wave vs Behringer Wave // A PPG Style Digital Artefact Comparison

video upload by Starsky Carr

"A look at the digital artefacts generated by the Behringer WAVE and Groove Synthesis 3rd WAVE and how they process the sounds. If I compared everything it would be 95% 3RD WAVE as it does so much more. So here I'm concentrating on the raw tone when using the 3rd Wave in 'PPG Mode' ie all the modern stuff turned off, and keeping it raw.

The Behringer WAVE is designed essentially to emulate the PPG almost exactly. Although it does have a few additions, overall it sticks rigidly to the PPG experience. The 3rd wave is a flexible studio centrepiece with a modern interface and comprehensive set of functions... which is reflected in the price!

I take a look at the wavetables, aliasing, imaging and a brief look at the envelopes."

NAMM 2025: Groove Synthesis Third Wave Desktop

video upload by sonicstate

"At NAMM 2025, we caught up with Bob from Groove Synthesis, who introduced us to the *Third Wave Desktop*. This compact version retains the core features of the original keyboard, including its processing power, 24 voices, analog filters, and all 8 outputs. While the control set had been slightly abbreviated for size, it still maintained ease of access through button controls for oscillators and effects. The price point also provides a more budget-friendly option.

Since our last encounter, Groove Synthesis had integrated additional features, such as the inclusion of sampling capabilities. The unit allowed 35 seconds of sampling and supported up to 12 samples simultaneously, processed through the synth engine.

Bob also highlighted the Prophet VS engine addition. With 48 wavetable positions, this was a nod to the Sequential influence in its design history."

Machina Bristronica 2024

video uploads by sonicstate

Playlist:

1. Bristronica 24: MyVolts The Silent Alchemist Nears Shipping
We caught up with Caroline who gave us the latest update to the *Silent Alchemist*, a versatile power hub designed for musicians. Featuring five isolated USB-C outputs and a high-wattage sixth output capable of delivering 100 watts, the device can power a Mac with the remaining outputs providing 20 watts each. Its independent circuits ensure noise-free operation, catering to a variety of devices including the Dreadbox module and Sysmo slope generator.

The Silent Alchemist uses innovative step-up power tips to convert USB-C input to the correct voltage for various devices. There's also new feature: an uninterruptible power supply allowing seamless transition between wall and power bank sources. Also introduced were updated cables, such as silver candy cords and floating ring TRS to TS cables, expanding connection flexibility. The Silent Alchemist is expected to be available in December with a competitive pricing strategy.

3. Bristronica 24: Archaea Exchange Patching Module
At Machina Bristronica 2024, we caught up with Arran from ‪@archaea_modular_synthesis‬ who presented the *Exchange Module*. This programmable patcher, a year in the making, evolved from its early prototype stage to a fully functional module. Arran explained how the Exchange can route synth voices via a beam controller and three exchange modules installed within the skiff, allowing for versatile patching. Operating like a matrix patchbay, it enables users to select inputs and outputs with the push of a button, create presets, and chain multiple modules for synchronized patching.

Communication between the modules occurs over the Eurorack power bus as well as over MIDI via the USB-C connection. The Exchange maintains analog integrity, ensuring there’s no conversion latency. The forthcoming release expected in late November 2024, includes a USB-driven editor for enhanced control capabilities.

3rd Wave Analog Core Synth Soundset

video upload by Creative Spiral

"This sound set includes 100 new synth patches for the 3rd Wave, focused on the hybrid analog capabilities of the synth. Lots of classic/vintage synth inspired sounds, famous song patches, binaural stereo stacks and modern analog designs. https://sounddesign.sellfy.store/p/3r...

I've made hundreds of sound designs on this great synth, using all the various engines, including PPG, modern wavetables and the new sample engine -- but this sound set is focused entirely on the hybrid analog / VA capabilities of the synth. Dozens of famous song tone patches are included, and classic analog sounds inspired by legendary vintage synths: Sequential Prophets, Oberheim OBs, Roland Jupiters, Yamaha GX and CS, and Moogs, plus modern sound designs that take advantage of the extensive capabilities of the 3rd Wave.

The sound set is available here:
https://sounddesign.sellfy.store/p/3r...

The patches inspired by famous artists/songs include ones by: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, MUSE, Tears for Fears, Toto, The Cars, Boards of Canada, Prince, RUSH, Daft Punk, M83, Stranger Things, Blade Runner, Harold Faltermeyer, Foreigner, Journey, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, Talk Talk, Van Halen, Thom Yorke, Radiohead, Steven Wilson, Adam Holzman, Michael Jackson and more.

The demo video features about half the patches included in the soundset... there are 50+ more patches as well! The sound in the demo video is direct from the synth, using only onboard 3rd Wave effects, and no external effects added. The drums in a few of the demos are from a Roland TR-8S.

Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave soundscape IV - Light blinds the way

video upload by MIDERA

"I think this will be my final soundscape with the 3rd Wave. I will need to return it to its owner. It's been fun playing through it and learning its ins and outs, to the extent that I could.

It's... a cool synth. I think the overall 'crystalline' sound it has is maybe not for me. I couldn't really shake that. Probably just didn't spend enough time with it, but it's hard to say. You can't really make it sound bad, but I guess I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

I'm conflicted. But also, I know I gravitate towards keyboard versions of synths, so maybe that plays a role (although I love the Modor NF-1). I don't know. Something I need to do... test my Virus TI and its wavetables. Add some oscillator saturation, use the analog filters and ask myself, "does this take me anywhere near where the 3rd Wave took me?'

Eventide Blackhole VST used for reverb (I didn't want FX clipping).

Created June 19, 2024"
