"An analog synth composed of modules

Eight modules

The volca modular is a semi-modular synthesizer consisting of independent analog synth modules, digital effects, and a sequencer. Each of the modules has been carefully selected for its stand-alone completeness. The modules are internally connected so that sound can be produced even before connecting the included pin cables, and the routing is shown by white lines on the panel. Module connections via a pin cable take priority over the internal connections, bypassing them.

SOURCE:

This consists of a triangle VCO carrier and a modulator. The complex overtones generated by FM modulation are sent through a wave folder circuit to add additional overtones, producing a distinctive sound. This module is important in determining the basic character of the sound of volca modular.

Korg Volca Modular | Unboxing + Demo

Published on Apr 15, 2019 littleBIGsynths

"Korg Volca Modular, Semi modular synth, unboxing and sound demo

Hey guys! I just picked up a brand new volca, the Korg Volca Modular! Like most people, when I first heard that there were new Volcas, I got super excited. 😁 The Volca drum seems cool, but not quite as interesting to me as the Volca Modular. For me, the vMod was a no brainer... A semi modular Volca? Yes! Take my money. 🤑 So, after placing my preorder and waiting a few months, its finally here. I am super eager to play with it and learn more about this "west coast" synthesis stuff. Oh, and of course make lots of cool videos for it. 😉

Well, I hope you guys enjoy this video! As always, thank you for for watching, littleBIGsynths. 👊

Please be sure to LIKE, COMMENT, and/or SUBSCRIBE I would highly appreciate it. 🙂

Korg Volca Drum Mega Tutorial

Published on Jan 14, 2019 cuckoomusic

"Korg Volca Drum is a percussive synthesiser from Korg, in the Volca range. I find it quirky and fun, when departing from the drum territory.
Here's a long tutorial, with a lot of flavours of what it sounds like, and how you can work with it."

Based on a simple trigger waveform, wave folder and overdrive are used to add overtones and distortion, and then a waveguide resonator effect brings the sound to life. The six-part DSP synth engine was designed with a completely different philosophy than conventional drum machines, and generates a wide range of unexpectedly different sounds. And of course, you can play those sounds from the volca-style sequencer.

Adding these distinctive sounds to your rhythms will revolutionarily transform your performances and productions.

Perfect Circuit: Korg Volca Modular: Battery Powered Semi-Modular Analog Synthesizer

Published on Jan 15, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"Korg has a new Volca out, the Volca Modular which is the same size as the other Volcas and can sync with them, but is a semi-modular analog synthesizer. The inspiration for the synthesis is West Coast and includes a complex oscillator, two function generators and two low pass gates as well as a random "woggle" generator. The sequencer has some new playback modes for less repetition and there is a built in reverb as well. The synth makes sound un-patched, but you can re-route the signals and process them to get other interesting sounds.

NAMM Leaks: New KORG Volca Modular & Volca Drum

And the first NAMM 2019 rumor is in. A new KORG Volca Modular "Micro Modular Synthesizer" & Volca Drum "Digital Percussion Synthesizer". Click the pics to explore. Note the mini patch points (ala Tinysizer) on the Volca Modular, and the display on the Volca Drum.

The Volca Modular appears to be a "West Coast" approach with a Woggle modulation source and 2 LPGs or Lowpass Gates.  An LPG is essentially the Buchla version of a Lowpass Filter.  There also appears to be some oscillator wave folding on the left.  Man, this is going to sell like hotcakes.  I want one now.   Digital drums on the Volca Drum with modulation does look interesting as well.

BURG - black orion (digitakt, avalon bassline, korg volca, modular)

Published on Feb 4, 2018 ollilaboratories

Update: walkthrough video added below.

"If you like my stuff please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/ and https://www.patreon.com/theBURG

Here is my first proper track in 2018, dammit, finally.. January has been really crazy with daytime work to date and I have had a hard time finding time to make some music.

I wanted to scale things down a bit, and not use too many instruments, make it a bit more minimal. Come to think of it, I rarely use all of my gear on a track.. for me this is a vital part of my sound design process e,g learning to say stop when there is no more room in the track.

113 bpm, a bit more downbeat 4/4 with the Avalon Bassline driving the main theme. Low end bass is being served by a KORG volca bass, with a slight LFO on the filter to make it evolve slowly.

Digitakt handles the kickdrum + the dubby chords and hihats. Additional hihats and rimshot are added with the TR8.

The modular has 3 sounds, all controlled by the beatstep pro, a bass sequence with the MI braids + uVCF resonance cranked up pretty high modulated by PAM. Rings does a dreamy random melody which is heavily modulated by PAM aswell. Finally some percussion in the BIA, triggered by the beatstep pro, randomizing some CV modulation to make it non repetitive.

Lead sound in the KORG volca keys, but you guys probably know this sound by now :)

I hope you will enjoy this one! Also, stay tuned for a very special treat, a complete walkthrough video where I will cover how this track was made.

Korg Volca Modular - Boxing Day Warm Up Jam

Published on Dec 26, 2019 ChrisLody

"My missus was nice enough to buy me yet another Korg Volca this Christmas, the Korg Volca Modular!

So here's my first go on it. I found it quite mysterious when I first switched it on as 'West Coast' style synthesis is quite new to me, the naming conventions anyway. Luckily this Volca (unlike some others) has a very good manual so after a short while I was fairly comfortable with it.

Not tremendously complex this jam but it's my first Volca Modular jam in my new studio since we moved house, most of which is still in boxes so it's more of a warm up than anything."

Into the Breach: Synth Covers

Published on Aug 26, 2019 Hyperobjeckt Synths

"Into the Breach is my favorite game of 2018, with a killer soundtrack by Ben Prunty. While playing it I kept thinking... what would this music sound like on synths and drum machines?

I wanted these covers to have a distinct feel that is different from the original music. So where the game's soundtrack mostly uses string instruments and minimal percussion, I hooked up 6 synthesizers, 2 drum machines, and a sampler. For the arrangement, I went more aggressive with prominent drums and a healthy amount of distortion.

Each song was recorded in two parts: one using the instruments on the desk and one using the instruments on the stool. These were recorded multitracked and then combined in REAPER. Here's the specific gear I used:
Roland D-05
Roland TR-8
Korg Monologue
Korg Minilogue
Korg Volca Drum
Korg Volca Modular
Korg Volca Keys
Korg Volca Bass
