Cavern | Ambient Modular Eurorack (Volca FM, Plaits, Marbles, Beads, QPAS)

video upload by SyllixMusic

"Download the audio: https://www.patreon.com/posts/58951968
Download the Volca FM patch: https://www.patreon.com/posts/58952165
I introduced the Korg Volca FM to the Eurorack modules and now they've become friends.

Patch Notes:
Volca FM sends clock to Marbles via sync out. Marbles triggers Plaits. Marbles modulates the Harmonics, Timbre, and Morph of Plaits (Veils attenuates some of these signals). Volca FM and Plaits are mixed by Hyrlo. Hyrlo goes into QPAS for stereo imaging / filtering, which then goes into Beads.

Processing:
Compression, Saturation, Valhalla Room and Valhalla Shimmer reverb"

Solder a DIY module with us at Superbooth 2021!

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"We've made you a little something, and you can build it at Superbooth 2021! A lot of friends online and offline have asked us about TausenddB, the little four channel preamp eurorack module we used to record our piezo videos with, so we've made it into a DIY Kit. And we will premiere it at Superbooth 2021 in Berlin, where you can build it with us in a workshop!

Get tickets for the workshop: https://www.superbooth.com/de/events/...

Tausend dB was originally designed as a small run of helper modules for space explorers, a public audio installation at Reading FringeFestival 2019 and in collaboration with visualists WARPED TYPE.

It was inspired by Tom Whitwell's MusicThing Microphonie and Mutable Instruments Ears, but we needed a different set of features: more channels, because we had a lot of contact mics, so we packed four channels into 6HP; mute switches, because we wanted to be able to act quickly when things get out of hand; and a secret row of expander pin headers in the back, so we could boost CV and audio from our favourite gear and devboards with jumper wires: Bastl Kastl, Korg Volca Modular, Electrosmith Daisy, Teensy and Arduino.

Jumpers in the back let you select whether you want to filter DC offset.

Check out the other awesome workshops too: Koma Elektronik, Touellskouarn, Befaco, Leaf Audio, Fase Lunare, Shakmat, AtoVproject and Jolinlab will all be there to build awesome stuff with you! Aaaaaand we might sneak peak a module at TiNRS’s booth, who will present a lot of great new modules as well ❤️ So come check them out and say hi!"

Hologram Cosmos and Volca Modular Haunting Ambient Soundscapes

video upload by Dj Puzzle

"@Hologram Electronics meets @Korg Volca Modular

Hey fam! I'm having fun running my Volca Modular through a Microcosm and making some haunting ambient soundscapes. Still getting the hang of this Hologram Electronics Microcosm. In this case I created my own presets using the Haze setting with a long reverb tail in the Space knob. The patch I made in the Modular to turn just a few knobs to drastically change the timbre of the source sound which is then graciously effected by the Microcosm. While ambient soundscapes is it's forte the looper stands out as a separate tool as you can hear in my example. I’m changing the playback speed of the loop that I captured. The loop is layered with the real time effect. I hope you like the sounds. Imagine now what I can do if I record this into my DAW and integrate it into piece accompanied by more instruments. #hologramelectronics #volcamodular"

Ambient Garden Jam on Battery Powered Mini Semi Modular

video by ChrisLody

"The incredibly cold and wet spring season we've had here in the UK seems to have finally given way to summer, so what a better way to make the most of the weather than a battery powered jam in the garden.

I've been building the rig in the video specifically to have something battery powered to jam and record on away from the studio but I was mostly thinking of writing on the sofa. But a few days ago we moved a sofa bed out of our cabin in the garden and it seems to have become garden furniture now, so this was a perfect place for a quick test of this setup.

It's perhaps not the best bit of music I've written but I had a few unexpected problems with my mini mixer being extremely quiet to begin which put me off my stride a bit. I ended up using the mixers mic inputs instead of line in which shouldn't have been necessary, but it works at least.

I'll make a vlog about the modular/semi modular 'Synth Tray' in a bit, but just quickly everything here is running on various rechargeable batteries and I'm using a Volca Modular, Bastl Kastle, Volca Beats (which I might replace with my Bastl Kastle Drum if it ever arrives....) Korg NTS1, Korg SQ1, Radio Shack Mixer, Korg SR1 'Sound on Sound' and a Suboos latern which has USB power to run the NTS1. There is a prototype board on there too but it wasn't used here. The reverb is provided by the Korg SR1 and the ambient sound is direct from my Sony HDR-CX240E and is played back dry. Molly the cat is on cable monitoring duties."

Introducing NOISE: A free white noise user oscillator for the KORG Nu:Tekt NTS-1 Digital Synth Kit!

video by HurpADervish

"Introducing 'NOISE': A custom white noise user oscillator for the KORG Nu:Tekt NTS-1 Digital Synth Kit!

NOISE is a basic white noise generator based on the sine_test code in KORG's logue-sdk. Parameter A has no effect on the sound, while parameter B adds soft clipping to the white noise core signal, slightly boosting the level, reducing the dynamic range, and adding some extra overall presence.

Note that shape or pitch modulation will have no audible effect on NOISE, and same sound will be produced regardless of keyboard pitch information.

Use NOISE along with the NTS-1's filters, envelopes, and effects to create a variety of timbres including percussion, sweeps, and much more!

Or use NOISE to turn your NTS-1 into a white noise generator to use with external synths such as the KORG Volca Modular!

NOISE is free to download from JabunAudio.com, though if you'd like to make a donation I'd be truly grateful for the support, and I hope to learn more and create more custom user oscillators for the KORG Nu:Tekt NTS-1 in the future! Subscribe to this channel or support my work on Patreon for future updates and music, and enjoy making some noise, with NOISE!

Bastl Kastle v1.5 Demo - Stereo Drones & Noise

video by ChrisLody

"'I like the bit where it goes hmmmmmmmmmmm' (headphones recommended for this one)

I'm now the proud owner of a Bastl Kastle v1.5, along with some other bits that are slowly arriving which I've bought in order to make an experimental score for an upcoming feature film title 'Bad Things', but I'll talk more about that in another video. The info for the film so far is here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12791060...

So the Bastl Kastle is tiny modular synth that's mostly focused around noise making. In fact I ran some CV from the Volca Modular and a Korg SQ1 into it's pitch input and I couldn't get it to tune, so it's fair to say it's not meant for that. I was quite surprised to find that it's a stereo device. It's equipped with an I/O port that allows signals to be sent in and out to and from it's left socket which is where I have the audio connected.

The red and blue channels here are using the phase modulation and phase distortion modes routed left and right which when the pitch and timbre knobs are tuned can create a great drones which can make some amazing dirty bass sounds if needed.

The red and green channels are using the noise and tonal noise outputs connected to the output in the same was which also have a tunable element so I'm able to build fairly large drones using a few channels like this.

On interesting tip so far is that unpatched (normalled) Pitch Mod and Timbre Mod amount knobs can be used as fine tune controls for their respective controls which is useful for this kind of thing

A bit of reverb was added from the Zoom Studio 1201 via Reaper

I'm impressed with the Bastl Kastle 1.5 so far and I'm looking forward to routing it through my Volca Modular. It's also pretty much perfect for the job I bought it for :)"

How to Use DIY Noise Souces on the Volca Modular

video by ChrisLody

"This tutorial is all about easy ways to add a noise source to the Volca Modular. There are lots of way to do this of course, these are just some of my favourites that fit alongside the Volca nicely and aren't going to break the bank too much. Btw I don't really have a decent camera that does a good job of the head shot style intro. This was shot on the same iPhone 5s which is 720p when front facing which is why it looks soft focus, I'm not really into that 'Murder She Wrote' look so I think I'll buy another camera.

0:00 Intro
0:50 Using a smartphone and the 'White Noise Lite' app as a noise source
3:50 Using a detuned radio as a noise source
5:58 Using the Korg Nts1 as a noise source

2019 Meets 1979 - Volca Modular Through Korg Ms10

video by ChrisLody

"Apologies that this is a bit long and self indulgent, I was having way to much fun here. This is something I've been meaning to try for a while, running the Volca Modular through the Korg Ms10 via a prototype breadboard. I don't have a modular system (yet) but it turns out this is a great way to have some fun. The Modular and the Ms10 are from totally different eras obviously and don't even appear to be compatible. The Ms10 uses the Hz/V for it's oscillators and S-Trigger to trigger it's envelope, meaning when the input receives a ground pulse it is triggered. The Volca Modular uses it's own weird 0.5v/Oct pitch standard so CV from the VM to the Ms10 is not possible, and uses the more conventional triggering method of positive pulses triggering it's envelopes. Luckily though connecting the output pulse of Function 1 is completely reversed and is a gate not a trigger so will even preserve note length so this is used to trigger the Ms10 envelope. The Volca Modular can convert incoming voltages into it's standard but that does not include the Hz/V standard unfortunately, so I'm just running the audio out into the Ms10 and using the raw oscillator outputs as audio rate modulators. Also we can use the noise output routed to the VM as a noise source.

So the top 2 sections of the video were recorded at the same time along with the sync out from the VM into Reaper. I then recorded the bottom 2 sections while the sync pulse plays back into the VM so it all syncs up.

In the top half I'm running audio to the Ms10's input from the VM, triggering the envelope from the VM's Function 1 which controls the envelope routed to the filter. The noise output on the Ms10 is fed back to the VM and i'm using the LFO output on the Ms10 to control the length of Function 2.

The bottom half of the video has the output of LPG1 routed to control the filter which gives us some tasty filter FM. Also the raw output of one of the VM's source oscillators is routed to the oscillator frequency also giving some nasty sounding FM tones. Additionally I have a modded Fab Echo pedal set up which is a pretty cool delay, much nicer than the stock echo it used to make.

I'm sure there's much more to explore here so this will probably pop up again soon I imagine. Once I've fully explored this I'll make a tutorial. I imagine this would work on an Ms20 too.

Life blog bit: I had my first Astra Zeneca jab yesterday and it was pretty nasty. I got the jab at 4.30pm, went to bed at 11.30pm shivering uncontrollably then woke up feeling like I'd been beaten with hammers all night. It took until about 11.00am until I had the energy to get up and I'm still not quite right at 3.30pm the day after. Apparently the second dose is worse. Not looking forward to it now!"

[diy] LIL' MONO SYNTH meets a (weird) sequencer...

video by planeteatrr

"Just some sounds from my new analog diy synthesizer. It is a odd but lovely little device. Maybe the most interesting thing about it is the fact that I will make the gerber files and all other necessary documents available so people can build one of those little weirdos themselves...

Sorry for the annoying sequence of notes. I will make a better video soon :)

I made that midi sequencer patch in Pure Data and used the Arturia Microfreak as a midi2cv interface...

More information here: https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/vie..."

"Since a year or so I fantasize about developing a series of small analog synthesizers, that will fit in guitar pedal or other types of enclosures, with frontpanels made of FR-4 pcb material. The synthesizer I am about to describe is basically the archetype and prototype for the more advanced synths. The next one will be based around Electric Druids VCDCO and TAPLFO chips and another one will include the famous CEM3340 vco ic paired up with a vcf that is a weird mixture between a Wasp vcf and an Oberheim Sem vcf.

But let's have a look on the first one of these synths. The main goal for me was that it can fit into a small aluminium die cast enclosure, without the need to use smt componentes or small 1/8 watt resistors. This meant I needed to have a low parts count. The result is that I used the most basic circuits for each individual function and merge them together into one circuit. I really did not expect much from it, but I am actually very suprised that the output of this progress is much more versatile and interesting (but with a nice and big "oddness-factor") than I thought.

Volca Sample, Modular, NTS-1 & Liven 8Bit Warps - 576i Acid - Jamuary 17th 2021

ChrisLody

"The Liven 8Bit Warps in this video was kindly supplied by Sonicware

Today I decided to take a break from the sound design job i've been hired to do (yes, really :) to actually make some music.

So for this Jamuary jam I thought it was about time I explored the Liven 8Bits Warps potential to make lofi acid, and a strange lofi acid it makes too :D It's got almost all the right ingredients, a resonant Low Pass filter, a sequencer with pitch slides of a sort (they're actually pitch sweeps but they do the job), and velocity in the place of accents. The only thing it's missing is a filter envelope so the 'Parameter Lock' function fills in for that here which is automation. Values recorded far from each other will slide in a linear fashion rather than jump so some filter sweeps can be made. Plus twiddle the cutoff while the automation plays and it will jump around some more. Also adding Bit Crusher makes it take on a vocal quality that I love. The reverb I've used on it is it's built in reverb

Elsewhere I have a one wire patch on the Korg Volca Modular playing through ensemble, delay and reverb on the NTS-1 for a sort of string sound. The Korg Volca Sample is loaded up with Korg X5 drum samples including a sleigh bell that I threw in for some reason

Today's projected random footage is from my own family and includes cars, horses, planes and some shots of our burned down family business for good measure. Keep an eye out of my VW Beetle. Looks kind of okay from that side but it was completely burned out inside.

This was a bit of a nightmare jam btw, I must have tried about 8-10 times to get it right but I kept blocking the projector or things were out of focus etc, even on this one the reverb is too high at the beginning, ah well, it'll do."
