Tracktion BioTek - New Organic Virtual Instrument from Wolframe Franke & Taiho Yamada

"This is a selection of demos from the new Tracktion BioTek virtual synthesizer. Each cue was performed live using a single BioTek patch in order to demonstrate the playability and expressiveness of the instrument. Wolfram Franke's powerful synth engine completely transforms sound between nature and technology via the central XY controller. It was an honor and pleasure to direct sound development for this project, and to contribute what I consider to be some of my best sound design work to date.

Special thanks to the entire BioTek sound design team, including Wolfram, Mike Wall, Sendy, justin3am, and Randy Lee. Check out electronic music from Wolfram Franke, Sendy and justin3am here on SoundCloud:

@wolfram-franke
@sendy
@justin3am"

Wolframe Franke was previously with Waldorf. He was the developer behind Largo, PPG Wave 2.V & 3.V, Attack and Steinberg's V1. He also created Stroke Machine for the iPad.

Taiho Yamada was the Project Manager and Head of Sound Design at Alesis. He worked on the QuadraSynth, QS series, A6 Andromeda, Ion, Micron, and the Fusion HD workstations. He was also the man behind the M-Audio Venom.

Anyone know who the girl with the whisky bottle is? [Update: it's Kristina Childs who designed the UI for BioTek. Thanks to Lima in the comments for the info and Anonymous for the link!]

You'll find more info on Tracktion's BioTek on their website here. They also have a Micro Synth Pack.

Korg nanoKONTROL Featured in Star Trek Picard

via @justin3am

Curious what season and episode it was featured in. If you know feel free to comment.

This was in response to the DX/DMX featured in Star Trek VI, in response by @tonsil to a recent post on a DMX up for sale. Credit when credit is due...

Update via justin3am: "Looks like it was season 2 episode 10."

Expert Sleepers release Silent Way v1.0.0 (Mac AU)

"Expert Sleepers are proud to announce the release of Silent Way, a suite of plug-ins designed for use as part of a modular analogue synthesiser system. The plug-ins produce no sound themselves, nor do they process sound - rather, they generate signals to be used as control voltages (CVs), which can be patched into the control inputs of oscillators, filters, VCAs etc. of an analogue system.

There are currently two plug-ins in the Silent Way suite - Silent Way DC and Silent Way Voice Controller. These are described in more detail below. It is anticipated that more plug-ins will be added to the suite in the future - watch the website for product announcements.

All plug-ins also feature
* full MIDI and OSC control.
* MIDI/OSC scriptability.
* sample-accurate handling of MIDI note messages.

*Silent Way DC*
Silent Way DC is a simple plug-in that generates constant output signals. It is intended to be used in conjunction with parameter automation (via MIDI or directly by the host application) to generate varying signals. For example, you could use it as an LFO where you draw out the LFO waveform in your host’s parameter automation GUI.

*Silent Way Voice Controller*
Silent Way Voice Controller is a virtual instrument plug-in designed to directly control an analogue synthesiser by generating the appropriate CV and gate signals via an appropriate audio interface.

By listening to the synthesiser’s output signal, the plug-in is able to calibrate itself to generate the appropriate pitch CV for the incoming MIDI notes.

As well as the basic pitch and gate signals, the plug-in can generate three multi-stage envelope CVs which you can feed to VCAs, VCFs etc. in your synth.

*Pricing and availability*
Silent Way is available immediately in Mac OS X Audio Unit format, priced at $49. Mac and Windows VST formats to follow.

Expert Sleepers are currently offering a reward for purchasers who document successful use of Silent Way with their modular system - see the website for details."

Expert Sleepers Silent Way controlling an Analogue Systems RS Integrator modular synth

YouTube via expertsleepers

"This video shows the Expert Sleepers Silent Way plug-ins controlling an Analogue Systems RS Integrator modular synth. The plug-ins are running in Ableton Live. The audio interface is a MOTU Ultralite Mk3. The Silent Way Voice Controller is generating the pitch and gate CVs; the Silent Way DC plug-in is generating an LFO via Live's parameter automation, which is controlling the waveshape input of the RS-95 oscillator."

3am - Damp Grid

"Another piece centered around shift registers. This time used as sound sources and as part of the visuals. All of the noisy percussion sounds come from the Dual Digital Shift Register (kinda Rungler-like patch) and Cascading Shift Register (used as and LFSR)."

3am - ARP 2600 FS and Audity One

video upload by justin3am

"In this video I'm playing my ARP 2600 through an Audity One recording amp from Curious Audio. https://curiousaudio.us

The 2600's balanced output is connected to the Audity One's transformer balanced line input. The mics I'm using are a 414 and an SE VR-1 ribbon mic through a pair of 1073 preamp clones. This amp is ideal for re-amping synths or anything really because of it's broad frequency spectrum and surprisingly low noise floor. This patch is using relatively little of the Audity One's available gain, just to illustrate the character of the amp. I hope to do some more extreme sounds when I can really let it rip!"

"this is a demo for a Reaktor ens. I created for using a Korg Kaoss Pad KP3 to trigger midi notes. The X axis of the KP3 controls the note value and the Y axis controls the rate at which are notes are triggered. In this demonstration, Reaktor is sending the note data as midi to a plug-in called Silent Way (http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/silent way.html) which controls my modular synth via a MOTU audio interface. Modules by Make Noise, The Harvestman, f(H) and Doepfer. Software based glitchery provided by Uhe's MFM2."

3am - Cascadence

video upload by justin3am

"A stomping jam featuring eurorack modular and such.
At the center of this patch is the Cascade Register from Omiindustriies, providing the main clock as well as distributing CV and triggering events.
Sounds from Synth Fox Modular's Degenrator, Pulsar-23, Infernal Noise Machine, etc.

I kinda dig this blurry arms vibe."
