FU Studio Pics

via Gary Chang

"In this shot, you can see the Eurorack system, which acts as Time Square, where Ableton Live interfaces with the modular and other analog devices through the Eurorack system (via the Cwejman AI-2s in the lower righthand corner, next to a pair of Make Noise Pressure Points with Brains. Above that is the TipTop row, with a Z8000 sequencer, a pair of Z3000 MK2 VCOs, and a Z-DSP). Also patched in is Schippman Ebbe und Flut, Mungo Sync, OTO Biscuit, Pigtronix Echolution and a Zerotronix Min-LE passive spring reverb. In the left foreground is a Monome 256 running Stretta's Monome suite for Max For Live, and glowing off to the right is an ancient Cooper MSB 16/20 MIDI patchbay....."

"Gary Chang has composed and produced over 80 film and television projects, including 8 films directed by film legend John Frankenheimer and 3 Primetime mini-series written and produced by Stephen King. A former student of Morton Subotnick while studying at California Institute of the Arts, Gary’s involvement in the usage of early music technology in the 70’s had enabled him to have worked for many illuminaries of music, including Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Weather Report, Robbie Robertson, Al Jareau, and, eventually film composers Patrick Williams and Giorgio Moroder."

The Ever Deepening Well of Sorrow & Loss // Monome Arc + Buchla Music Easel

Published on Mar 1, 2018 Genshi Media Group

"This started out as a test of the Monome Arc/Ansible module sequencing the two Oscillators of the Buchla Music Easel (via my custom made Eurorack to Buchla convertor module from Synovatron) while also sequencing Mutable Instruments Rings and Intellijel Plonk... it then turned into a pretty, but sad little tune. Additional background sounds/voices from Make Noise Morphagene. Effects from Mutable Instruments Clouds (on the Eurorack Modules) and Empress Effects Echosystem (on the Buchla.)"

Oval Sound meets Modular Eurorack and Ableton Live (With PauK)

Published on Jul 6, 2015 Oval Sound

"We visited PauK in their studio in Girona and let him connect The Oval to their sonic and production system.
In the video PauK plays the Eurorack Modular synthesizer trough Expert Sleepers Silent Way and some Max4Live patches running in Ableton Live.

He has also a DJTechtools Midi Fighter Twister to control parameters in the patches.
To rise the porngear factor even higher there are some monome and Elektron gear on sight.
The Oval is a class compliant USB midi controller. When the campaign reaches 300% The Oval will include also a DIN 5 midi out cable to connect to any midi system, via USB or DIN5.
Oval, the first digital handpan, is a melodic percussion platform which allow you to play music / Learn music / Perform music.

Back The Oval, the only limit is your will.

Synergy

Synergy from emergencyofstate on Vimeo.

"My first experiments with Max for Live.

The rundown

Synth - An instance of the Volta plugin is being fed by a Step Sequencer Max Instrument. (All synth sounds are produced by my eurorack modular synthesizer.) 2 additional LFOs are coming out of Volta controlling the cutoff and resonance.

Drums - My monome 128 is running Soyuz (scrolling step sequencer written in Max/MSP) This is running stand alone but it's clock is slaved to Ableton Live. This sends MIDI to a channel in Live that has a Max Instruments-Analog Drums. There is another channel in Live listening to the drums and being processed with Max audio objects.

The first minute or so of the video is not that interesting because i'm laying a beat out on the monome. Things get a little more interesting around 50 seconds."

ALLINAIRE Live @ VITALISE. [Monome Teletype, ER-301,Dreadbox, Zoia]

video by Allinaire

"Full uncut set using Eurorack: Monome Teletype doing the heavy lifting via i2c connections to Mannequins Just Friends, w/, Txo & Txi and the mighty Orthogonal Devices ER-301. The Dreadbox NYX2 is doing sequenced synth lines and various sound effects. Live control and manipulation of everything via the 16n Faderbank. More granular and delays via Empress Zoia.
This piece was conceived as an expanded live version of my track 'Torp' from the EP 'Heiro' on Bandcamp and New Sound Waves Records.

Thanks to Luke Snarl for organising the event and handling sound and mixing (including this direct mix off the desk).

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure: https://thegalaxyelectric.lpages.co/5...

Today's trip involves a minimal yet sonically rich pairing; Buchla Music Easel, Vocals,Tape Delay and CV Controllable FX

Come with us as we go on a light cosmic rock hop. We loop our Buchla modular synthesizer using the Monome Grid and MLR.The vocal chain consists of two Boss RE-20s going into a Pigtronix Infinity Looper synced via MIDI clock. We explore many of the various aspects of what the Buchla Music Easel has to offer. It is an endless fount of sound creation and manipulation. The Buchla Music Easel is accompanied by a small Eurorack FX chain including a 4MS Dual Looping Delay, Field Kit with CV Radio, and Mutable Instruments Warps for white noise.

We have NO idea what these performances are going to be. We literally turn on our gear and start sound-checking and before we know it, we have traveled to another planet!

Equipment used:
Buchla Music Easel
Roland RE-20 Space Echo Pedal
Onde Magnétique OM-1 Cassette Synthesizer
Pigtronix Infinity Looper
Monome Grid controlling MLR {re:mix Max for Live app}
4MS Dual Looping Delay

New Synth Gear and Makers in January 2015

After this year's massive New Years post, I thought it might be interesting to see how many new makers and new gear announcements we received in a single month.

This may or may not become a monthly theme on the site depending on interest.  If you think it's worth while, leave a comment.

At a high level we had 12 new makers, one new old maker previously never featured on the site, and a whopping 193 new synth related products. Check out the module list below.  The list is a combination of what was either announced or released this month.

The list in order of appearance:

Anywhere in Nature • Renfrew | Ambient Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

Published on Nov 28, 2019 Lightbath

"Live performance multi-tracked to MixPre-10T and mixed in Logic with additional processing and effects.

With the addition of two Polyend Anywhere modules and two Intellijel Palette cases to my setup, I can now fit a powerful, fully-battery-powered system into my backpack and make music anywhere in nature. I almost called this first piece 'Trio for Friends, Rings, and Sparrow' because it uses three voices: Just Friends played by Monome Norns (via Crow), a micro version of Rings into Clouds, and a live field recording that features a sparrow that flew directly overhead as it sang. Listen closely and you'll notice that the sparrow also called the exact moment the piece ended. Magic. Sparrow Totem.

NAMM & NOT NAMM - New Products on the Synth Front

Well, it's that time of year again. Keep an eye out on the NAMM label (added to top right menu) for everything NAMM and more. More in that anything new will get the label whether it's shown at NAMM or not. It's about new gear. Updates in this post will be preceded in red. Some already in below. See "The NAMM List!" link under the Twitter, Facebook, and RSS labels on top of the right to get back to this post later.

(A note on the top site menus: I removed the iPhone and iPad labels as they go up in posts every day now so you can find them there. eBay links are on the right, so I removed it as well.)

That said, the following are some of the things to look out for. If you have any NAMM info feel free to comment and/or send it in. If I missed anything, let me know! If you are going to NAMM, feel free to send pics and video in.

On the list:
