Modular synthesizer meets Boesendorfer grand piano sent through Strymon Magneto

video upload by

"Having fun with Strymon Magneto and a piano improvisation.
Used a pair of headphones (!) as microphone inside the piano and then patched that signal through mutable ears into Magneto.... Definitely the weirdest pair of mics i ever used, searched for anything with 3,5mm jack well i can say this works surprisingly well!

Recorded on boesendorfer grand piano and a custom modular synthesizer.
Arpeggiator Style Etude written for modular synth and piano."

Buchla Music Easel + Strymon Magneto // Further Explorations

Published on Jul 25, 2018 Genshi Media Group

"::| TO HEAR THE FULL RANGE OF FREQUENCIES AND STEREO EFFECTS, A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED |::

Further explorations of my Buchla Music Easel going into the Strymon Magneto Four Head dTape Echo Eurorack module (in Echo/Pitch-Shifting mode.) I was attempting to get the Music Easel to sound a bit like a cross between a Carillon and a Calliope! Both oscillators of the Music Easel are being sequenced by the Malekko Heavy Industry Varigate 4+ going through my Buchla-to-Eurorack Converter module, custom made for me by Synovatron. This time I am changing the tempo of the Varigate via a Make Noise Tempi and a Sputnik Selector Sequential Switch. No other effects or processing other than the Magneto (including the Spring Reverb.)"

Strymon AA.1 Amplifier Attenuator Eurorack Module - Demo

Published on May 24, 2018 strymon

"Most Eurorack modules output very hot audio signal levels that can easily overload the inputs of effects pedals or computer audio interfaces. The audio inputs in a Eurorack system also need to receive very hot signals. AA.1 amplifies and attenuates the signals to the appropriate levels, allowing you to combine your guitar gear and Eurorack modules in just about any way you can imagine. Check out the video to see four common use cases with musical examples and signal routing explanations."

Bonesetter - Tarantino-esque Prophet Jam

video upload by Postmodern Machine

"Canada is in lock-down again 🚧

Trying to fight the darkness of January with a showdown 🧨πŸ’₯
If you are struggling with the various stresses of this time of year, you are not alone. Please hang on, things will change, call someone who will listen, and take it one day at a time 🚢🏼‍♂️🧘🏼‍♂️πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Interactive Live Stream with Make Noise 0-Coast & Strymon Magneto

Started streaming 11 minutes ago Perfect Circuit

"Our modular setup is comprised of a Make Noise 0-Coast and Strymon Magneto with a couple of additional utilities. We're using node.js to send YouTube chat messages to a patch in Max 8, which uses the Expert Sleepers ES-8, ES-6, and ES-3 as a randomizable patch matrix. It sometimes sounds peaceful, sometimes bombastic, and often quite strange—feel free to chat to change the sound and see where it goes!"

_________
Amanda Chaudhary’s live performances bring theatricality and flare to the sometimes staid world of experimental electronics. She combines sophisticated modular synthesizers and software, with conventional instruments and even toys and DIY electronics for a unique experience that moves effortlessly between experimental noise, jazz and funk, ambient abstract landscapes, and more. She has been performing solo and with various groups in the Bay Area, New York, and beyond for many years and is deliberately difficult to pin down to a particular style or practice, except to say that her work is always fun to experience. Amanda is also the founder of CatSynth.com and CatSynth TV, which covers music, synthesizers, art, and culture through the prism of a love for cats. The feline sometimes works its way back into her music."

πŸ“€Prophet 10 & MFB Tanzbar JamπŸ’ΎUnhandled Exception

video upload by

"Hola 🌳

This jam is over a year old but I had not found the right spot to release it earlier in 2022. I made some final adjustments to the mix and video now, and I still really enjoy the piece and the energy of it⚡️

The jam was initially set up using the prophet, keystep, tanzbar, and the Strymon Magneto, Monsoon, and Meris Polymoon as effects pedals. The main and secondary prophet melodies are engaged on the keystep live on separate tracks in order to mute/unmute them. The "bass line" is coming from the Tanzbar toms controlled by the Keystep. Wanted to keep it longer so some additional layers of Prophet pads and ambiance were added in Reaper to spice up the arrangement.

Strymon BigSky Reverb - synth audio demo

Published on Oct 21, 2013 strymon·81 videos

Strymon BigSky on eBay

"Visit http://strymon.net/bigsky — Synth clips performed by State Shirt [http://youtube.com/stateshirt]. Ableton Live clips performed by Strymon's own Charles Etienne.

Plug into BigSky and instantly lift your sound into the stratosphere. The world below you fades into the distance, and you're elevated into a glow of lush, glorious, radiant reverbs. To create a reverb experience as natural, beautiful, and immersive as BigSky required tremendous feats of sound engineering and artistic imagination. Using the fundamentals of acoustical science as our beacon, we carefully studied and scientifically analyzed reverb technology from the past fifty years. We faithfully captured the essence of these classic sounds, and forged ahead to dream up our vision of reverbs from the future.

Feel the mechanical tension of the Spring reverbs. Hear the floating particles of the Cloud machine. Defy the laws of physics with the Nonlinear reverbs. Unleash the multi-head reverberations of the Magneto machine. BigSky gives you twelve studio-class reverb machines, each with simple yet powerful controls.

We knew we must take reverb to a whole new level. With careful attention to detail, innovative analog circuitry design, an insanely powerful SHARC processor, and the utilization of top-shelf components, we've developed a reverb pedal that fits on your pedal board yet has better audio quality than many rack reverb units. This fusion of science with art has just one goal. To provide you with the most musically inspirational reverb experiences possible.

Eurorack jam featuring Metropolix, Manis Iteritas, Prok Drums, Zen Delay, and electric guitar

video upload by

"A live, semi-improvised modular performance performed entirely on hardware, with one guitar overdub.

This jam started with a simple exploration of the Intellijel Metropolix, a neat sequencer that helps you stumble into inspiration, along with two voices (the Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas and the Acid Rain Chainsaw). My ambitions were no more than "play guitar with eurorack". But as the song found itself, and more and more was added to the table, it became clear I'd have to add guitar after the the fact.

A big highlight here is the Prok Drum modules being sequenced by the Mutable Instruments Grids. Not only is Grids fast and inspiring, but its modulation allows you to add performability (like the snare rolls I add via a touch pad here) and variety (through its chaos and frequency controls). Special thanks to Michael, a good human and also a member of my Patreon community, for allowing me to commission him to build the Prok modules! You're the best, Michael.

And of course, the Erica Synths Zen Delay works its magic again. Here, it runs everywhere from flanger to filter to gonzo delay, and I just love what it adds to a jam.

The patches would take a very long time to explain, but here are the modules:

Voices:
- Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas
- Squarp Rample
- Acid Rain Chainsaw
- Qu-Bit Chord
- Frequency Central Product
- Prok drum modules

Sequenced Jam #88 (Roland System-500 510 and 505)

Published on Oct 6, 2018 Rheyne

"Sounds are from a Roland System-500 510 filter self-oscillating, and the 510 pulse wave through the left side of a System-500 505 filter. Slow bass swells from a Noise Engineering LIP are sent to the right half of the 505 filter.

The self-oscillating filter from the 510 is sent to a Strymon Magneto, and the 510 pulse wave is sent to a Make Noise Morphagene, processed as a granulated echo. Reverb on the overall mix is from a Strymon BigSky. Sequenced with an Eloquencer, clocked by a Make Noise Wogglebug. Recorded in one take with no overdubs."

Strymon Big Sky vs GFI SYSTEM Specular V3

Published on Apr 24, 2019 synthlegends

"Comparision of two great reverb pedals. The very popular Strymon Big Sky against the quite unknown GFI SYSTEM Specular Reverb V3.

The Strymon contains 12 algorithms and a lot of parameters, whereas the GFI is ab bit simpler. It contains only 7 algorithms. But it costs only about half the price of the Strymon. Soundwise both are great. I prefer the GFI, because I think it sounds warmer and is incredible for ambient stuff.

I tried to compare some similar algorithms and didn't manage to match exactly the same settings.
1. Big Sky Shimmer vs Specular Shimmer
2. Big Sky Cloud vs Specular Spatium
3. Big Sky Magneto vs Specular Echo
4. Big Sky Chorale vs Specular Voices
5. Big Sky Hall vs Specular Spatium (less intensive than in the first example)

I hope this video helps you to find out, which is you pedal.

I played everything on Oberheim OBXa stereo into the pedal and stereo out.

There are no additional effects or mastering used.

Thanks for watching !"

Massive jam w/ Keystep Pro, Subharmonicon, ARP Odyssey, DFAM, SH-01a, MI Clouds, and lots of effects

Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by the anticipation of the new (school) year. I wanted to do one last huge setup, with a lot of different gear, before the semester starts and I get busy. I was super happy with where this one went.

At the heart of it is the Arturia Keystep Pro, which is sequencing four melodic lines (bass on ARP Odyssey, pads on SH-01a, melodic arp on Subharmonicon, and granular melody on Clouds), while also providing clock for the non-MIDI DFAMs. Despite the huge assortment of gear on the table, this one just worked for me because the instruments each have a really beautiful baseline sound.

Arturia Keystep Pro — Sequencing and clock
Korg ARP Odyssey into Empress Echosystem — Bass
Roland SH-01a into Strymon Ola into Meris Ottobit Jr. — Pad
Moog Subharmonicon into Meris Polymoon — Arp melody thing
Mutable Instruments Clouds into Strymon Magneto — Granular melody
Moog DFAM into Empress Multidrive into Union Tube & Transistor Lab — Kick and snare
Moog DFAM into Erica Synths & Ninja Tune Zen Delay — Hi hats and noise weirdness

Written and recorded in a 48-hour period and uploaded as is, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.
