"I always wonder where the inspiration come from but again I think this video is different then all the previous ones. It began this evening when looking at new items on MATRIXSYNTH website when I looked at this video of the FabFilter Twin 2 virtual synth. I liked the demo and downloaded the trail at there website. I began to play with it in Ableton Live as VST and when browsing through the drums presets, I found an interesting snare drum. I altered the sound somewhat and the idea was born. Apart from the 5 MIDI tracks for controlling the Doepfer MAQ16/3 using the Novation Launchpad in Ableton Live, there are only 2 MIDI tracks with 3 clips each: one for the FabFilter Twin 2 drumsound and one controlling the Creamware MiniMax ASB with the bass sound. Then I dailed in two 8-step sequences on the Doepfer MAQ16/3 and it sounded very interesting. Added some Mellotron strings from the Roland XP-80 and there you have it. The full video is about 13 minutes which I will upload soon to my website."

My goal was to compose and record original electroacoustic compositions using the software programs Abelton Live and Max/MSP. This is the first song off of my upcoming album to be released April 17th, 2010. I will be posting a new track every week on my myspace page (www.myspace.com/grovemiller). There I will also have a full written report of my research including diagrams that better explain how everything is configured. This video was limited to 3 minutes, but I will also post a clip of the whole performance. Enjoy! -Grove"

Some fun trivia: For those wondering what Muff Wiggler is, Muff's Forum has become THE forum for boutique modular gear. Users and manufacturers are active on the forum and many manufactures have their own sub-forums. It is run by Mike McGrath and originally started as a blog back on November 23rd of 2006. The first time I announced Muff Wiggler was back on December 4th, 2006 in this post. Prior to that I put up two posts featuring Mike, one on July 10th, 2006 and one on July 18th, 2006. Note in the modular world there are boutique manufacturers that sell pre-assembled modules, some that sell both modules and kits, and then those that design modules and provide schematics and instructions for the DIY crowd. I think the crown for the longest/oldest running company would be PAiA, who just started selling module kits again. Note Muff's forum has a DIY section, however the bulk of DIY seems to be on the electro-music.com forums along with probably the biggest Clavia Nord Modular forum.
YouTube via donaldjasoncrunk. via Mr. Array: "new Archangel sequencer/controller video by way of STG Soundlabs" Update/Clarification via donaldcrunk in the comments: "matrix: this is _not_ an STG soundlabs product, it is a Detachment 3 engineering product. we're just testing it and seeing what we can break, so the end user doesnt have to" I'll keep the label for the association, but note this is Detachment 3 Engineering. I also created a new label for Detachment.
video description: "a little noise riot with the Archangel prototype and a micromoog (aka maternitymoog). the touchplate keyboard is more than suitable for this kind of sonic terror, and combined with the integrated sequencer it will tear off your ears and eat them on a triscuit. save your coins, you're going to want one. watch for this product soon from Detachment 3 Engineering, or go fuck yourself. your choice."

YouTube via SignaltoNoiseVideo "This interactive sound installation deals with exploring the physical connection between people and technology. A tangible user interface, taking the form of a glove is worn by the participant as they are invited to interact with an analogue tape surface. As the glove comes in contact with the tape, sound is generated and can be manipulated via touch and movement. This piece intends to explore the somewhat obsolete medium of tape through a playful and sonically interesting experience, appealing to a wide audience. the pre-recorded sound on the tape is a random collage of compiled material including a range of musical styles & found recordings. This piece is informed by works such as Nam June Paiks Random Access Music and Stockhausens Tape experimentations as well as the notion of using analogue tape as an instrument. YouTube via MusicMiK. Click here for all videos in the series. "This is the first prototype version of one of the configuration screens for the MonoMiK. You see the VCO configuration, where you can select one or more of the 6 basic waveforms, which are mixed on the output, select the sub oscillators of VCO1/2, the noise mode (icons not yet designed), the ring modulator mode (icons also not yet designed) and the sync/pitch tracking settings. Besides sync on/off, you can also select the sync source, which doesn't just handle sync between VCOs, but also sync to external sources, noise, the ring modulator and a digital signal from the CPU, if i get this implemented with the performance i have. Synchronization can be configured to trigger when the source is less than or more than a specific signal voltage level, while the level can also be configured in those screens.
The touch screen driver is not yet optimized, usability with finger input might get improved, and there are lots of other screens to be implemented. This is just a small peek at how everything might look when completed.
The whole GUI and hardware drivers are written in C++ and runs on an ATmega168 clocked with the internal 8MHz oscillator currently."
"My first Kyma X patch for the Pacarana. Kyma is unreal and let's you do almost anything in Sound Design. I took a concept of a didgeridoo patch on my modular and built it back in Kyma but with even more expression. This is still a work in progress.
The touchplate is a Snyderphonics MANTA. I spent some time coding some algorithms in MAX to enhance the performance control of the patch using velocity, aftertouch and polyphonic aftertouch + controls using OSC to Kyma.
The Manta is a fantastically wonderful controller. It shows it's flexibility and feel here.
The patch is microtonal meaning pitches are in divisions of the western concept of half and whole tones."
