New Upgrade for the Sequential Circuits Multi-Trak Adds MIDI CC & More

SCI Sequential Multitrak - Midi CC Firmware upgrade

Published on Mar 10, 2014 LeonDigz·19 videos

Update: two additional notes:
- CC's also work when the unit is in the "Stack"/Split mode, as well as when it is in midi mode 4 (multitimbral).
- MIDI CC receive only.

This is pretty incredible news. The SCI Multi-Trak offered a velocity sensitive keyboard which the Six-Trak lacked, however the Six-Trak supported MIDI CC which allowed you to use external controllers to edit its parameters. The Multi-Trak lacked CC so you could only edit it directly. This upgrade will finally bring MIDI CC support to the Multi-Trak and the CCs will match the Six-Trak with the addition of a few extra parameters only found on the Multi-Trak. If you have both synths and/or a TaunTek upgraded Max, you should be able to edit them at the same time which should be interesting for layering and editing patches. You'll also be able to do some decent A/B tests between the synths set to the same parameters.

Video Description and link to more details:

"I've been working with Bob Grieb to beta test & provide feedback on a firmware upgrade for the SCI multitrack. The Upgrade accomplishes the following;

-Midi CC parameter control for all parameter matching the Six-Trak & Max.
-Midi CC control has been code optimized for better performance.
-Additional 4 midi cc parameters LFO, VCA & VCF velocity sensitivity amount + a special request to unlock the multiplier on the VCO envelope.
-VCO envelope now has a multiplier via cc#43 to achieve 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x & 16x original depth allowing for more diverse percussive (synth drum) & sfx type patches.
-Two sets of factory patches are now embedded in ROM and can be loaded holding down a button on power up.

More information can be found at;

http://www.tauntek.com/SCIMultitrak.htm

This project was built upon development of a SCI Max upgrade Bob Grieb and I also worked on which gives this oft looked over lil' brother of the Multitrak & Sixtrak a new lease on life. http://www.tauntek.com/SCIMax.htm

Thanks + Congrats to Mr. Grieb for making a fantasy reality for many Multitrak owners.

*P.S mind you ears/speakers, this synth noodling uses a lot of the cross-mod feature of the CEM3394."

"The keyboard keys and synthesizer sounds/functions all work perfectly (key pressure is even, no sticking keys, no intermittent notes, filters sweep cleanly across the full spectrum, etc). All orig hardware, including wood ends, decals, switches and colored tabs (only a couple of the colored slider-top decals missing). The keyboard range is fully in tune (octaves are evenly tuned) and the unit stays in tune extremely well.

This synth is set up in two sections, and thus is really two independent synthesizers in one, which is both unique and allows it to do what other synths can not do. For instance the arpegiator can toggle between the two voices, custom filter settings can be set for each synth section, and a sub oscillator (or ring modulator!) can be assigned to each of the synth sections independently.

It has a professionally designed modification (by Analogue Solutions), thus allowing it to receive cv input for pitch, gate, low pass and high pass filters independently for both of the synth sections (eight 1/8 inch CV inputs all together). This modification works perfectly, and has NOT altered the performance or functionality of the synth in any way whatsoever and is non-obtrusively located near the units outputs. The CV inputs are simply there to allow the synth to be used in conjunction with analog gear or modular synthesizers (as with any cv signals, caution should be exercised to ensure that proper external voltage be used).

There is very little wear visually, just slight buffed areas around the knobs and sliders. No large scratches, and the end pieces are in very good shape (only small nicks in a couple of places).

CV ins:
Top Synth section : gate, pitch, hp filter, lp filter
Bottom Synth section : gate, pitch, hp filter, lp filter"

KNAS Ekdahl Moisturizer with mods

Published on Mar 11, 2014 ISOTROPOSPHERE·125 videos

"Presenting my custom version of the Knas Ekdahl Moisturizer which was done with the directions on the KNAS website for this product.

The KNAS EM is an exposed spring reverb tank with a multi pass (LP, BP, HP) filter, an LFO and a mixer section all in one nice rugged unit. There are many modulation routes and plenty of ins and outs on the rear for cv and audio.

Yeah, you might think it pricey, but, its a very lush sound and not many other 'verbs let you play with the springs which makes it an instrument of it's own rite. The mods are not easy to perform, but the directions and Mr. Ekdahls nice replies made it work first power up. It is also a little unnerving hacking a nice, expensive device.

Along with performing the modifications I added some purple heart wood strips for the switch base and upper deck, custom hot pink labels for the mods and KNAS stickers, custom colored switch covers and the purple knobs to replace the stock white ones on my version. Sounds sweet and looks great.

I know these are popular because the are always sold out at the various distributors, has anyone else perform the mods to their unit? Lets see them....and hear them most of all....."

Little Phatty & Slim Phatty Update v3.2 Now Available

"What's New:

• LOCAL CONTROL: OFF, ON, noKB. The new "noKB“ setting turns local control OFF for the keys only, while all knobs still affect the sound.

• ARP SETUP: SYNC LOCK (OFF, ON). When ON, the SYNC LOCK parameter keeps the arpeggiator phase constant from the time the arpeggiator is started. When Sync Lock is OFF, new notes reset its timing. This parameter can also be set with CC87 (0-63=off, 64-127=on).

• POLY-CHAINING: Multiple improvements and bug fixes to Poly mode.

- Fixed several ways that different units could get out of sync

- Added a new voice-stealing behavior: When a note is released, the system looks for keys that are still held whose voice has been stolen by a subsequent note, and re-plays the most recent stolen note. In practice, this helps prevent notes from seeming "dropped" when polyphony is momentarily exceeded (such as when playing legato phrases).

• MIDI Time Code (MTC) bug has been fixed

• MIDI CC filtering bug has been fixed: Certain panel controls would continue sending MIDI even when MIDI CC filtering should have blocked them.

• SYSTEM UTILITIES: PRESET MWHL added to Little Phatty. This allows the Mod Wheel amount to be saved per preset. (The Slim Phatty already has this feature implemented)

• ARPEGGIATOR: When turning off the arpeggiator while still holding a note, the held note now continues to play instead of being silenced when the arp is turned off.

WebSID - web-based Commodore 64 synth

Published on Mar 11, 2014 Igor Zinken·13 videos

"A demonstration of the WebSID, a synthesizer that runs inside your browser (Google Chrome or Safari 6+ required, though most mobile devices such as iPads are ready to go) that pays homage to the retro sounds of the SID chip, a.k.a. the audio module of the Commodore 64. The trademark pulse width modulated waves provide a testament to deep, heavy bass lines while playing chords on the top keyboard will result in the trademark arpeggiated lines so typically associated with old school video games. For further sound sculpting, a high res filter and echo have been added to turn the WebSID into a chaotic drone machine.

NOTE : the audio glitches in the video, but is a side effect of the screencast, no such glitches are present in the actual application.

Shruthi Poly Demo

"This is a demo of 29 different sounds played polyphonically on 6 different Shruthi synthesizers, from Mutable Instruments, using a MidiPal to assign notes to each monophonic synthesizer. There are 2 ladder filters (from TubeOhm), 2 4PM filters, one SMR4 MK1 filter and one SMR4 MK2 filter in the group. If you listen carefully (or not so carefully on some of the samples), you can hear the variations caused by the different filters.

I just played whatever came into my head when I heard the patch, and it’s one take per sample, no overdubbing (mistakes and all that). There’s a bit of Saffire reverb added, and recording was done with Reaper. The patches are from the stock set, FunkyFli’s bank, TubeOhm’s bank, some stuff from Gadget Fiend and a few others.

Some of the patches were edited slightly by me to help them work polyphonically. Use headphones if possible, the six instruments are panned across the stereo field and bounce around a bit.

"Volca Beast II free sound library revisits the sound of Korg's new analog drum machine with expanded sonic capabilities.

The Volca Beats was put through boutique sound processing to create even more depth and range. From quick thumpy sounds for techno and like genres, to beefy Hip-Hop style rhythms, Volca Beast can easily fit into most productions.

Samples labeled with a lower-case letter after them are multi-samples. This gives you the choice of randomizing each hit so you keep some of the analog integrity.

All sounds are offered in 16 and 24 bit resolution, 44.1kHz wave files.

"* semi-modular analogue synthesizer
* dual oscillator, dual multimode-filter
* separate inputs/outputs for both filters
* 18 patch connections in signal chain
* two LFOs with „One Shot“-function
* CV/Gate and MIDI control

The two oscillators have the four waveforms triangle, sawtooth, square and spike. VCO 2 instead of the spike has a noise generator. VCO2 can be detuned about plus or minus one octave compared to VCO 1. About a patch connection can be the oscillators sync with each other. In addition, the signal can be tapped off separately from VCO 2 can be used to filter modulation.

The two 12-dB-state-variable multimode filter feature of the operating modes low, band and high-pass and notch (bandstop). The filters are connected in series, thus with the same mode of operation results in a greater slope. This value is variable, since the two cutoff frequencies can be shifted via Space-controllers against each other. With the combination of low-and high-pass results in a band-pass with variable width and separately controllable resonances. About a patch connection, a parallel connection of the filter is possible. Then two offset bandpass filters, a notch filter with variable width or a low-or high-pass with projecting bandpass can be realized. The response can be regulated for both filters up to self-oscillation. The cutoff frequencies are jointly regulated or controlled by envelope. They also can be moved on the Space controls against each other. The modulation via LFO or the mod input acts together either on filter 1 or both filters.

Like on the other early CS-series synths, a resonant 12dB/octave multimode VCF is available as the filter. It is switchable between high-, low- and band-pass (the last being 6dB/oct). The VCF contains its own ADSR envelope generator plus controls for cut-off and resonance.

The single LFO can be used for PWM. An internal memory is available, holding up to 8 user programmable patches. Other features include brilliance control, portamento, pitch bend, glide and glissando. For external control there is a CV/gate interface."

Analog Craftsman 5U Dual Wasp State Variable Analog Filter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a brand new dual Wasp state variable analog filter hand built in the USA by analog craftsman. The panel is based on the original design of the EDP Wasp keyboard synthesizer (the picture of the original wasp in this posting is just for reference and is NOT included in this auction). This module uses NOS Harris 3080 OTAs. The main output is switchable between LP, BP, and HP. There is also a separate output for the notch filter (as the original Wasp didn't have this). Also features CV input attenuator and a variable distortion circuit on each filter. The output of the A side is normalled to the input of the B side so you can use the two filters in series without additional patching for some VERY drastic timbres. If you know the Wasp filter, you know it can scream.

Again, this is factory new, fully tested and ready to ship. Also remember it is TWO discrete filters in one module, which is reflected in the price. There is no commercially available 5U build of this so here is your chance to own a custom build of one of the most unique and historic analog filters."

At first I didn't wanna make a cover of this track because the original may well be the best track of 2013 IMO - and my version would of course not stand up to the original. But then again, I'm not trying to copy the original - just trying to do my own version of this great track. - so this is it! I had a lot of fun doing this!!!

Hope you enjoy it - and thanks for watching!"

Phasic Cycloid Shimmer Voices

Published on Mar 11, 2014 JeffreyPlaide·100 videos

"Phasic-Cycloid Shimmer Voices is a highly unusual original experimental electronic music composition utilizing "shimmer chords" and swarming combinations of waveforms creating surreal modulating choruses of glass-like shimmers and piercing sonic effects. The inspiration behind this work came from the un-tapped potential of cross-coupled chaotic oscillators and the beauty of swarming 8-oscillator chord combinations. The SynFactory 1.15 software modular synthesizer provided the prime waveforms and sonic effects for the work. SynFactory is so versatile, modules can be configured to perfectly replicate the cross-coupled chaotic sounds of twin oscillators modulating one another. Several tracks utilized the SynFactory 8-oscillator configuration fed into an 8-channel mixer module, then slightly filtered and processed by a triplet of delays. One 8-oscillator patch used square and triangle waves to sound like the interior of the Miniscope from a Doctor Who story. Another patch used all triangle waves for a refined shimmer. Another patch used all square waves. Variations on the 8-oscillator approach included first and second through a ring modulator, the third and fourth likewise, the fifth and sixth, etc. using four ring modulators feeding into a second-order ring modulator then filtered, mixed and delay applied. The chaotic cross-coupled patch just consisted of two oscillators and two delay units to produce the chaos. Variations on this theme included introducing ring modulators into the configuration and additional oscillators to control the FM. Signal generation tones also provided additional effects, especially when modulated and slowed down to create eerie "wobbulator-like" motions. The final mix seems to shimmer and resonate with metallic overtones as each of the SynFactory 8-oscillator swarmings come in and out of prominance. The visuals are the result of pure video synthesis techniques. The backgrounds were a direct inspiration from the fabulous EMS Spectron video synthesizer. Multiple exposure NAM modulations were superimposed upon colourised, solarised and XOR (exclusive OR) created backgrounds. Many different effect layering and processing techniques were used, some directly emulating the functionality of the EMS Spectron. Interestingly, many of the foreground motifs used 8 multiple exposures to compose the complex pictures. Some of the patterns resemble early computer graphics or experimental film animation with multiple exposures. The images vibrate in synchronisation with the music. Pulsations move with the resonating 8-oscillator chords. Light patterns fall in and out of existence. Scintilating vibrating motions capture the essence of the motor-like metallic resonances. Alien or extraterrestrial inspirations cannot be ruled out in the making of this work. The entire piece is extraterrestrially-orientated to a large degree."

Korg Volca Series+MicroBRUTE+MicroKORG(The Electronic Roundtable)

"This was recorded after a bit of a warm-up session( which will get posted as well but it was a larger upload and lost out).

Two Kp3s, a quad pad, the monotron delay, and Kp2-mini round out the effects. And room for a couple more things(a lonely MS-20mini and the gold microkorg...and three monotribes if I get around to making a non-active summing mixer). Plugging in way too many mixers,lol.

However, we should be able to create "synth islands" now and pre-program three very different songs and do an extended set of 30-45 minutes. More like a club setting of constant play or a concert, but not as cool.

Off to bed while this uploads. Thanks for watching/listening."
