"The Either-OR is an 8-channel switchable OR Combiner logic module. The Either-OR allows the user to switch between 2 signals per channel, or combine both of the channels for an OR logic output.

There are also 2 jumpers per channel on the back of the module that allows the user to select between a center OR combiner or a center mute function, or 'off.'

The Either-OR allows the user to combine gates, triggers and other logic signals into a single combined OR output.

There are 8 numbered rows that can be daisy-chained in order to input many multiple logic sources, resulting in complex gate or trigger outputs.

This is a passive module and thus does not need a voltage connection or power cable. The passive diodes produce a slight voltage drop between the input and the output of each channel. As a gate combiner it will combine 2 gate inputs to produce an OR function on the output. When combining CVs, the highest positive input will appear at the output with about 0.7 volts of drop.

The Combine-OR is available as a fully assembled module or in kit form. The kit can also be assembled to switch between audio signals with a center mute. To make the center position a 'mute' or 'off,' remove both jumpers from rear header pins (on each channel).

"In honor of what would be Bob Moog's 80th birthday, The History Center in Tompkins County, in partnership with Moog Archives presents a presentation on R. A. Moog, Co. and Bob Moog's legacy, given by Moog expert Roger Luther.

Memories of Robert A. Moog, his pioneering work in Electronic Music Instrumentation, and the company he started, on what would have been his 80th birthday.

With a background in electronic music composition, Roger Luther first visited Robert Moog's company in 1971. The following year he joined the company as a synthesizer technician and tuner. He continued with the company through a series of ownerships, eventually serving as General Manager, until the business closed 22 years later.

In 1999 he established MoogArchives.com, a website about Moog's pioneering work, the R.A. Moog Company and the series of companies that evolved from that original facility..."

Astronauta Pinguim Pays Tribute to Bob Moog on Brazil's Radio Putzgrila

Those of you that follow MATRIXSYNTH on a regular basis should be more than familiar with Astonauta Pinguim, most notably for his interviews with the pioneers of electronic music. He just had an article published on the influence of Bob Moog on Brazil's Radio Putzgrila. The article is in Portuguese, however you can find a Googlish version here.

Moog Music Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the First Modular Voltage-Controlled Synthesizer

"2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the first modular voltage-controlled synthesizer, an instrument that forever changed the course of modern music. Today, on May 23rd, Moog Music celebrates what would have been the 80th birthday of this unique instrument’s inventor, Dr. Robert Moog, by transforming our newly renovated space at 170 Broadway Street into a free public gallery and photo exhibit.

Photos of the early years of the Moog synthesizer’s inception [1964 – 1970] will give a view into one of the music industry’s most important innovations and the man that pioneered it. The free exhibition will run daily from 4:00 – 6:00PM [M – F]. The exhibit will close on June 23, 2014.

Visitors to the exhibition will also have the chance to receive* The Sound of Moog, a 45-inch vinyl re-pressing demonstrating the sounds of the Moog modular made by Chris Swansen. Originally on flexi-disc, this recording wad included with with the early Moog modulars.

Easiest Volca MIDI Out Mod

"Hi, I want to share my own MIDI out mod, in my case for a Volca Beats.

Instead of buying the expensive Amazing Machines kit, or doing the mod that is shown everywhere, with a female DIN connector in a hole drilled to the box, I figured out a completely inexpensive and non-destructive way of having MIDI out.

I just connected the 3 MIDI terminals on the PCB to the 3 legs of the Sync Out minijack female connector, and then made a minijack-DIN midi cable. MIDI only uses 3 of the 5 DIN pins, so a stereo minijack connector is as good for MIDI data. This way you avoid drilling the volca case, and you don't need a female DIN conector.

Here a list of the MIDI data the Volca Beats outputs. The note numbers for the parts are weird, and the choice of the knobs that output CCs is even weirder. Maybe someone can shed a light on this. So far I managed to control my Nord Micromodular very well. The Volca outputs incoming MIDI clock too, so it works like a Clock MIDI Thru. This is very useful for daisy chaining.
