New Folktek Arts Aether

via Folktek Arts

"Aether, created by Arius Blaze, is a touch based work with a very sweet and rich sound similar to that of the Euphonos Field (though not as broad). It features 20 oscillators and a 20 note polyphony, is capable of connecting with anything that accepts control voltage and also has a set of touch "keys" that transmit CV.

Two touch panels contain 10 responsive "keys" each that represent the primary low oscillators and higher decay oscillators. When the global pitch is dropped, the low oscillators go into a synchronized LFO mode where each key represents a different time signature. The decay section is made to have a natural decay where attack and sustain are controlled by touch. Another panel integrates a more subtle set of oscillators that replicate the decay panel and are made to influence the other oscillators. Finally, the amp section alters the sound of the low oscillators and provides everything from deep, filtering swells to subtle pitch change.

These oscillators travel to a reverb/delay (switchable) that provides an enormous reverb or a nasty tape style delay. Additionally, an external signal can utilize these effects as well. In fact, the synthesis of Aether can be made to pass through the player, into the upcoming synthesizer "Materia" which is then sent into the effect section of Aether where it can be mixed with the original signal how you like.

*This piece is made to connect with an upcoming synthesizer called "Materia" which greatly expands the possibilities and sounds. Materia will be available when Aether is officially released (not preorder). Materia provides its own clicky poppy deliciously odd drum sounds and rhythms via trigger-based sequencing, touch-based wierdness, CV sequencing to control and synchronize with Aether as well as more touch panels that allow the synthesis of Aether to be heavily altered. It also allows the oscillators of Aether to pass through the user without any audio cables connecting the two(!). Materia has a second power jack and if both pieces are purchased, a jumper cable will be provided to eliminate the need for two power supplies.

Aether Control Voltage is as follows;
Global CV input
Clock output (to synchronize Materia or anything else with the rhythmic clicking/popping of the low panel when the pitch is dropped.

CV out transmits 0-5v based on touching the decay "keys". Each key outputs a dedicated voltage in .5v increments."

"The Kilpatrick Audio K815 Pattern Generator is connected via MIDI to the Mutable Instruments Yarns. The Pattern Generators clock is carried via MIDI to the Yarns which is then clocking the Livewire Chaos Computer via EXT Clock. The Intermix is interconnected to the Chaos Computer. The mixed output of the Intermix (which represent mixed random voltages from both channels of the Chaos Computer) are being used to change through the Braids wavetables as the Kilpatrick Pattern Generator chooses new notes The Left and Right Intermix outputs are modulating the Audio Damage Aeverb and Dub Jr Delay modules (dampness and time)."

Analogue Systems French Connection Controller

"Based upon the legendary Ondes Martenot, the French Connection is a unique controller for virtuoso performance. By placing a finger through the ring suspended below the physical keyboard, the player can glide smoothly between notes by moving the playing hand from left to right, creating a very natural vibrato in the process. Theremin effects are easily obtained by connecting one of the CV outputs to an external VCO with sine wave output.

The French Connection is a 49-note CV/Gate keyboard controller supplying (3) CV outputs, (1) Gate output, and (1) Trigger output. In addition, there is an XY Joystick Controller, selector switches for normal keyboard duties, and the Ondes Martenot Controller via a Wire Traveller and pressure resistant wooden button. The French Connection controller does not have MIDI and does not emit any sound, but by connecting it to a minimum of (1) VCO with sine or saw waveform, plus a VCA, the Martenot effect is easily obtained.

The user can line up the Wire Traveller with a raised and indented reference grid below the Traveller (a wire under tension with a ring that the user puts his finger through) to land accurately on the desired notes, or can use the keyboard as a visual aid.

The user can select between Traveller and Keyboard modes with the 2 selector switches for “Button” and “Conventional Keyboard” playing. For example, if the expression is routed from the button to a VCA with LFO routed thru it (for vibrato), the player can achieve effects much like the Arp PPC controller on an Odyssey III / Axxe II.

The French Connection is housed in a gorgeous American Walnut cabinet and each one is hand built. This instrument has received worldwide attention since Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead started using his in their studio sessions and on their live tours."

Atari Junk w Alphabet Soup Deluxe

Published on Aug 5, 2014 ISOTROPOSPHERE

"Synthrotek Atari Junk kit built and custom enclosed by me.

Alphabet Soup Deluxe is a circuit bent creation of my own experimentation with some junk electronics from the trash.

The Atari junk is being fed to the modular and multed (split) through several paths and effects. Some paths return to the mixer and get reverb added and one passes through the Korg KP3 returning to a mixer channel with no effects.

The Alphabet Soup Deluxe (first one I built is named Alphabet Soup) is a circuit bent creation housed in a data disc box which is a circuit that came from a child's play mat. This unit expands on the bends I found with the first unit by adding all available samples to the controls of the device.

I like the Atari junk kit from Synthrotek and look forward to them making that circuit into a module for eurorack. It is capable of all of those sweet 8 bit sounds and more, I just haven't found the best way to gate it for recording. The case was a donation from a friend and was looking really sweet until the clearcoat finish lifted my paint and started to eat my press type text. I wasn't about to do it all over so it is what it is and I am happy with it.

Enjoy!!!"

Modular Synth Jam w Kaleidoloop

Published on Aug 5, 2014 ISOTROPOSPHERE

"DFMZ modular synth jam with Critter and Guitari Kaleidoloop.

This is a little tribute of sorts to the modular synth video posting frenzy known as Ebotronix and his channel.

Initial sounds are from the Kaleidoloop (blue box with stickers all over it) then I add the Melody Mill (seq controlling oscillator) which goes to the Rare waves formant filter. Various other low groans and sequences are being generated with the modular including the steel type drum sounds.

Sort of a video diary of the current state of the DFMZ studio modular and the selection of module within the two main large cabinets and two skiffs up front. All cases built by me and painted in an homage to the Technosaurus design.

Not appearing here but in other videos are my two suitcase modular synths also built by me, housing eurorack modules and the Technosaurus small wonders series complete. I dub the Technosaurus suitcase the Technosaurus 2100 for the chrome numbers on the faceplate designating the specific synths.

Most of what the Kaleidoloop is generating are samples from a session with my circuit bent TI Speak and Spell. The K-loop is running through the samples as in start mode and is set to normal (unchanged), original sample pitch.

Enjoy!!! Visit the Ebotronix channel for cool modular and vintage equipment jams."

Duet No.4 for Synthesizer and The Singing Ringing Tree

Published on Aug 4, 2014 John Keston

"This is the fourth selection from takes during a five day recording session and performance series at the Singing Ringing Tree (SRT) in Burnley, UK, a wind activated musical panopticon in Northern England. The sculpture was designed by architects Tonkin Liu and completed in December 2006. I performed accompaniment for the SRT binaural recordings simultaneously using a Novation Bass Station II connected to a USB battery. I also ran the Bass Station II through a Moog Minifooger Delay.

NOTE: This is a binaural recording combined with a monophonic synthesizer track. Although it sounds great through speakers, circumaural headphones must be used to experience the binaural effect."

Jupiter has the factory DCB connector but no after market midi installed. There are no functional issues with the Synth. It tunes up great and holds. This is one of the most desirable poly Synths ever made. My price is realistic and reflects a middle ground of what the sale prices have been both on ebay and locally here in Los Angeles. I only say this because folks have a tendency to message me and ask for a lower price and I would ask in advance that you please do not do that. I am also not interested in trades..."

"This was probably the best sounding string machine of its day. The Logan String Orchestra can be heard on [video above] It was used on many 70s and early 80s hits. Kontakt now has a sample set available as software but it can't compte with the real thing. Manufactured in Italy by Logan Electronics they were re-badged by Hohner and Wersi. This keyboard turns on but after a short time a loud hissing ensues. My gut feel tells me this is repairable but I don't have the time or space to mess with it. I am sure there are lots of parts in it that can be canibalised to repair other Logan string synths."

"This is the software synthesizer Einklang from the company Eisenberg Audio from Germany

More informations @ http://www.eisenberg-audio.de/"

Note the Dissonance knob at 1:56. There's also a Harmonicity knob.

"EINKLANG is our first synthesizer following a new paradigm of sound generation. Instead of synthesizing sounds like traditional synthesizers according to a set of technical parameters (i.e. amplitudes, frequencies, spectra…), EINKLANG re-synthesizes sounds using instrument models. These instrument models can not only be tweaked directly in their musical parameters (i.e. loudness, pitch, timbre…) but also be morphed from one tone color to another. These key features allow the user to think in plain sounds rather than mathematical equations and to control EINKLANG with only few musical parameters. The musician can concentrate on musical aspects, while the synthesizer does all of the underlying technical processing."
