Moog Sub 37 Mega Demo 64 Patches

Published on Sep 21, 2015 gstormelectro

"All video and audio by G-Storm Electro c.2015
Visit http://gstormelectronica.blogspot.com/ to download the patches.

Doing something a little different this time. I have packed ALL 64 of my original Sub 37 patches into a 4-track MEGA DEMO, a cornucopia of basses, leads, arpeggios, and otherworldly sound effects. Everything you hear is ALL SUB 37, I wanted something true to the tone of just the Sub 37 and nothing else. You may see other effects and things in the background, but NONE are used here.

It took two weeks to compose, film, and edit the video.

The patches are free to download on my blog as a system exclusive file, AKA sysex. If you do, be sure to FIRST backup your own sounds to a computer, and confirm they are saved. If you need guidance be sure to check out my video at https://youtu.be/ulNTvar2fCQ for uploading sysex patches to a synthesizer using a MIDI utility program like MidiOX."

Yamaha VOCALOID4 Cyber Diva Now Shipping

"Now Shipping: Yamaha VOCALOID™ Singing Voice Synthesis Technology Offers Realistic Vocal Library in American English

BUENA PARK, Calif. (September 21, 2015)—Yamaha today announced that new software products built on VOCALOID 4, the company’s powerful voice synthesis engine, are now shipping.

Under development by Yamaha since March 2000, VOCALOID enables users to simply input melody and lyrics to synthesize a singing voice. Making their debut on the platform are the Cyber Diva voice library in American English and VOCALOID4 Editor for Cubase.

Cyber Diva is the first VOCALOID exclusive Singer Library with an American English female voice that delivers remarkable expression with clear speech, powerful long tones and smooth vocalization in any genre. The package includes a new feature, Growl Expression, which produces a harsher, gruff tone. Cyber Diva also comes with instrument features for building temporary tracks that serve as a bed for the virtual vocalist. Geared toward professional music producers, Cyber Diva lets users input melodies or lyrics to create the vocal lines.

Two more products, VOCALOID4 Editor and VOCALOID Editor for Cubase, include several new features for innovative music production. Cross-Synthesis lets users design nuanced voice tones by blending two different sound libraries—one to enhance power and attack, the other to emphasize expressiveness like the sustain and release of notes. Growl adds hard tremolo to the voice for a more realistic and versatile sound. Pitch Render allows for editing the smoothness of pitch linkage or the level of vibrato application by using a visual display to make the settings.

'Cyber Diva and VOCALOID4 Editor represent the culmination of years of perfecting the subtleties of virtual vocals,” said Lacy Privette, director, Steinberg North America. “This brings a new level of authenticity to voice synthesis
technology, especially for background parts, so that producers and musicians can test ideas and flesh out tracks even when no singer is present.'

Cyber Diva, VOCALOID Editor for Cubase and VOCALOID4 Editor (each MSRP: $130.99) are now available.

For more information, visit http://4wrd.it/vocaloid4."

There is also no sign of rust inside of the battery compartment. Amazing mono machine with one of the best sequencers in the business. This thing is legend and its pretty obvious why."

Light In The Attic Announces Jodorowsky's Dune Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Kurt Stenzel

Published on Sep 16, 2015 Light In The Attic Records

Be sure to see my post on The Synths of Jodorowsky's Dune with some words from Kurt Stenzel on the synths used in the soundtrack.

"This track is from Light In The Attic Records' release of Kurt Stenzel's original score to the documentary 'Jodorowsky's Dune.' It is available for purchase on vinyl & CD here: http://bit.ly/1iMSNRE.

Available: November 13th, 2015

This is the soundtrack to the story about the greatest film that never was.

Jodorowsky’s Dune tells the tale of cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unsuccessful attempt to adapt Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel, Dune, to the big screen. Composer Kurt Stenzel gives life to a retro-futuristic universe as fantastic as Jodorowsky’s own vision for his Dune–a film whose A-list cast would have included Salvador Dalí, Orson Welles, and Mick Jagger in starring roles and music by psychedelic prog-rockers Pink Floyd.

Building upon director Frank Pavich’s idea for a score with a 'Tangerine Dream-type feel,' Stenzel lays out a cosmic arsenal of analog synthesizers that would make any collector green at the gills: among other gems are a rare Moog Source, CZ-101s, and a Roland Juno 6, as well as unorthodox instruments like a toy Concertmate organ and a Nintendo DS. 'I also played guitar and did vocals,' says Stenzel, 'some chanting… and some screaming, which comes naturally to me.' The score also features narration by Jodorowsky himself. As Stenzel notes, 'Jodo’s voice is actually the soundtrack’s main musical instrument–listening to him was almost like hypnosis, like going to the guru every night.'

This highly-anticipated soundtrack LP was sequenced and mixed by Stenzel with the listener in mind and flows through a 'four-sides' LP approach. 'I wanted it to play like the records I grew up with, where every side was a journey.'

The New Roland Boutique Synths - JP-08, JU-06, JX-03, K-25M - Pics & Full Details

We saw the JP-08 here. The full line of new Roland Boutique mini synths have been leaked.  The source as far as I can tell was Zzounds via Google cache: JP-08 ($399), JU-6 ($299), JX-03 ($299), K-25M ($99).

The first thing to note is the mini keyboards on these are optional. They are all desktop synths and the front panel can be angled to different degrees including flat when mounted to the keyboard. Each is a four voice synth but can be chained to add an additional 4 voices per unit. Each can run on batteries and has a built-in speaker. The keyboard is purchased separately. Details and pics on each follow.

"Roland JP-08 Synthesizer Module
The legendary Jupiter-8 synth is back - as a limited-edition module no bigger than a book. Part of the Roland Boutique series, the JP-08 is all about hands-on control and that iconic Jupiter sound. With an array of 36 knobs and sliders from the original Jupiter-8 front panel, the 4-voice JP-08 is highly programmable and encourages sonic experimentation, especially with the built-in speaker and battery operation. Using Roland's acclaimed Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology the JP-08 faithfully reproduces the original Jupiter-8 sounds and adds a few new twists in the form of extra LFOs and expanded VCO range. You can even slide the JP-08 into the K-25m keyboard unit (not included) for a self-contained, go-anywhere synth experience.

Huge Synth. Small Package.
The Jupiter-8 was a big synth in every way; physically imposing with loads of knobs and sliders, and most importantly, a huge sound. The JP-08 retains the big sound of the Jupiter-8 but shrinks everything else - including the price - into a module measuring under 12" across.

Hands-on control
With such an expressive sound engine, you'll want to shape the sounds to match your mood. With 36 of the original parameters accessible from the front panel, the JP-08 is all about hands-on control, and even users of the Jupiter-8 will quickly feel at home as the user interface and programming 'feel' is highly reminiscent of the original.

New Sound-Shaping Options
Even though the JP-08 is an authentic recreation of the Jupiter-8, Roland also included a few extras. The JP-08 adds several new waveforms to the original architecture, including TRI and NOISE for the LFO and SIN for VCO-1, and both VCOs have an expanded range for even more sound shaping potential.

4ms - Spectral Multiband Resonator (SMR)

Published on Sep 21, 2015

"Here's the full overview of the Spectral Multiband Resonator or 'SMR'. Had loads of fun with this, it's a massively powerful tool to have in the rack. For studio style sound design or live sound manipulation. It works great with live acoustic sources or just dropping modular based FX or basic waveforms in.

Here's a "First Patch" that I made when I first got the unit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKJnS...[posted here] - some musical drones on offer there.

Feels like everytime I go play with this there's more that I could keep doing regarding a video but it had to stop somewhere! Fire away with any questions.

New Soviet Polivoks Desktop Synth from Alex Pleninger in the Works

Update: demo videos added below.

An approved clone of the Polivoks coming from Alex Pleninger.

Update:

Some new info from Alex Pleninger in via Soviet Space Child:

"The most important parts (defining sound) are soviet old stock, it includes filter, vca and both envelope generators
The osc are heavily reworked to provide stability, which is really excellent
Modulator made cv controlled, with additional waveforms
And all stuff is still 100% analogue
Excluding midi"

I asked him further about the VCO designs, i.e. if they're based on the originals, and he had this to say:

"Yes, the design is almost the same as in the old one
And one more point
The machine is approved by Kuzmin
We signed a deal
And it is built like a tank, believe me"

And via traffkin in the comments: "in close collaboration with Alexey Taber, great engineer and synth guru :)"

The Spectral Method in Clouds' Spectral Madness

Published on Sep 21, 2015 wellurban

"A detailed exploration of the barely-documented 'Spectral Madness' bonus mode on Clouds. I've read through the source code on github (https://github.com/pichenettes/eurora...), and while I'm not a C programmer, I gleaned enough information to get a more structured sense of what this surprisingly powerful mode can do: it's far more than the afterthought that Mutable Instruments suggest. It's a quirky phase vocoder, capable of subtle and useful treatments as well as spectral weirdness.

The two samples come from the suggested audio set for Music Thing Modular's Radio Music module: the drum loop is played directly from there, while the voice was resampled and lopped in Tyme Sefari II. The bassline is a Dixie II through a Pittsburgh Filter. There is no external processing, and the rest of Clouds' internal effects (stereo spread, feedback and reverb) were also turned off to focus on the spectral processing."
