Roland JP-8000 Virtual Analog Synthesizer
audio demo recorded dry into Ableton Live 7 with no effects
except for the internal FX from the JP-8000 itself.
This JP-8000 has the Jupiter-8 style knob & slider cap colors.

These are just factory presets played & tweaked a bit but
they are great at showing off the sound engine's other claim
to fame beyond the Super Saw Trance sound-
The JP-8000 Famous Strings, Pads & Special FX!
The last sound I tweak is quiet, but morphs into a killer
SPACE MUSIC DRONE that is awesome in headphones!

Excellent synthesizer for Dance, Pop, Rock, Techno, Gothic,
Industrial, Soundtracks, Ambient, New Age, Space Music, etc.

Please please PLEASE watch your volume, it goes from soft
& sweet to BALLS to the WALLS in seconds!
Such a dramatic little synthesizer! LOL!!
Just one little knob or slider move & the sound EXPANDS
into a new dimension... God this synth ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

SH 3acid workout

Published on Jun 9, 2016 Unun Septium

"I keep coming across these 'expert' opinions telling me that the Roland SH-3a doesn't really make a very good bass synth. Well, I suppose it depends what kind of bass you're after.

If you ever hear this myth being perpetuated, just remember these two words: Distortion pedal. It was good enough for the TB-303.

This little workout uses the valve distortion of a Digitech BP8 (hence the noise). Since the SH-3a doesn't have CV and Gate, I'm not using a sequencer here, it's just the Sample & Hold and the LFOs generating that annoyingly repetitive pattern."

Live Synth Jam 43:Korg Volca, Roland Boutique, Renoise

Published on Jun 9, 2016 Todd Smith

"The Roland Boutique JP-08 arrives !! This jam uses the tracker based sequencer, Renoise. I've been ripping my studio apart left and right trying to find the best setup for me and Renoise. In this quickie I only use the Korg Volca Bass, Roland Boutique JU-06 and Roland Boutique JP-08. Renoise supplies the drum samples and all the sequencing. Renoise is slaved to Ableton via Rewire, Ableton handles the multi track recording. I kept most of the gear out because I wanted to focus on the Roland Boutique sounds. The Korg Volca Bass Supplies the bass. The Roland Boutique JU-06 takes on the lead synthesizer sequence and the Roland Boutique JP-08 handles the pad In this jam my max loop with Renoise is 128 steps. I plan on controlling the drum mutes in future jams but with this one I just laid everything like one big track and played live over it. After this jam I have a very good idea how my final setup will be with Renoise. Thank you for watching, please subscribe.

Jeff Babko Interviewed by Dave Smith Instruments

You'll find the full interview here.

On the Prophet-6 and OB-6:

"DSI: You’ve been a vocal promoter of the Prophet-6.

Yes. The OB-6, too. They’re a beautiful team. The synths feel natural. They’re warm, they’re thick. Both the Prophet-6 and the OB-6 have different characters, a different color. Clearly when you A/B them, they are different instruments. The layout is different, but the character is different, too. They are both solid, super exciting instruments. They are like children to me; I cannot choose one over the other. I think they are both really intuitive, remarkably musical instruments. They’re really great to have in my arsenal, because I feel like I connect with these instruments.

I have Mono backpack bags for both synths. If I can show up with just a backpack and the raddest piece of equipment, that’s a pretty good day! I feel like I have this whole world of opportunity on my back. It takes me back to what initially excited me about synthesizers.

Once I turn them on, it’s difficult to leave. The gates of opportunity just open and immediately these warm, interesting, dimensional sounds cause me to want to write music. They are a composer’s best friend.

I’ve never been a real soft synth guy. Some composers like soft synths because they need to call up a sound, grab it, plug it in, and it works. I’ve always looked at it as: “I want to provide a sound — my sound.” If you’re a guitar player, you choose your Strat or your Tele or your Les Paul and you decide what you’re going to run it through. I’ve always felt that I was coming from the same direction. With these synths, I turn them on and call up a sound, but then I immediately tweak and get it to where it feels good to me and then that’s my instrument. It’s not just fulfilling a role, that’s my voice. Both of these synthesizers are such unique voices. They’re just brilliant instruments."

"星流" Vox Starstream (using Sustain Model) played by Yuichi Onoue(尾上祐一)

Published on Jun 3, 2016 TorigoyaSound

This one in via TorigoyaSound. Filing this one under guitar synths. Listen to the sustained synthetic tones coming out of it.

"星流" - Star Stream
written and performed by Yuichi Onoue(尾上祐一)

Yuichi Onoue plays Vox Starstream VSS-1 Modeling Guitar. Using 'Sustain Guitar' model. The notes(chords) you play are sustained.

Starstream is basically electric/acoustic modelling guitar.
It includes 27 preset tones processed by a powerful DSP engine AREOS-D system. But there are three synthetic sound presets, too. 'Sustain' is one of them. The notes you play are sustained with vibrato(or without vibrato). Of course, this sustain sound is processed by DSP engine AREOS-D system."

Early 1980s Crumar CPB-2 Bass Synthesizer Pedals

"Early 1980s Crumar CPB-2 bass pedal synthesizer. As you may already know, Crumar made these for Music Technology by Elettronica model # CPB-2 or just better known as Crumar of Italy.Excellent sound, with big space tones, and sort of the early 80s big cinema movies such as the “ Shining“ or “Space Odyssey“ - very fun to listen to and play. All switches and tones sound fantastic and are “tight“. This a rather big item: 30 lbs., 28” long, 18” deep, 7” tall. The Crumar CPB-2 is a 13 pedal bass synthesizer featuring: saw and triangle waveforms, 16’ & 32’ a resonant low bass filter and release control, tune, envelope, resonance and release doubling, and wave form. There is plenty of info on this online. Again it performs and responds to the controls instantly with great drama - from sci fi to hi fi - a very RARE SYNTH."

Alesis Ion "Pacman on Steriods"

Published on Jun 9, 2016 synthartist69

"Here is a video game composition that I did about 13 years ago using the Alesis Ion. I went back about 3 years ago and added the Moog sounding lead solo parts. I recorded the main part using a Roland VS1880 back then, later recorded the lead parts with my Yamaha AW4416 which I still use today. I had ambitions to market it to the video game industry, but like so many other ideas, it never made it out of my bedroom.. lol I used a Roland TD10 for drums..."
